It has been a significant improvement from just using my heaphone microphones. I went with the scarlet 2i2 amp to pair it with that also allows me to plus in my Yamaha headphones as well. Only thing that I did not realize was that the mic did not come with an XLR cable so I had to make a seperate trip to purchase one.

It's the most neutral and true-to-voice sounding mic I've ever heard in my life. Needs plenty of gain so make sure you have a strong interface or sound booster but aside from that, it's as good as gets. There's a reason why it's the industry standard.

CONCLUSION: The Shure SM7B needs no introduction as it has developed an almost trendy/illustrious status and has been on my list for a very long time. My expectations going in were high and I was not left disappointed. I have never used a nicer microphone and it fits my voice perfectly. The build quality is spectacular. It is extremely clear and rejects other noises extremely well making it perfect for broadcast, live vocals, singing, instruments, live streaming, and product reviews. But if I’m being honest is probably overkill for most individuals and you can get most of that sound for A LOT cheaper. I find it to be endgame (for most). Especially for those who are going for that radio voice as it has strong mids and bass while still capturing highs well. But depending on your voice can come off as a bit muddy/bassy and if you are really wanting to focus on highs I’d go with a different microphone. The most surprising thing I’ve found is that due to the illustrious status this microphone has I find that when I am using it that I feel like what I’m saying is important, that it has some authority to it, and that I’m a professional making me perform better. And when I listen back to my recordings I go dang, I sound good as it picks up the subtly of my voice. And that feeling alone is hard to find and will make it worth it for most people. In the end it is an easy recommendation. As the cons really come down to personal preference over it doing anything inherently poorly. BUILD/SOUND QUALITY: This microphone feels premium, and the build quality is excellent. It appears well thought out and is mostly made from metal and has a bunch of fancy things going on inside to reduce mechanical noises, hum, breathiness, and impact sounds making your recordings nearly silent except for your voice. It comes with two different windscreens. Most will use the one that is already on it, the other is thicker. On the back of the device, you have some adjustments that include high pass filter and mid-frequency boost. When you switch them to on you can see the line go from flat to bumpy reflecting these changes which I think is awesome. But most will stick to doing EQ on the software side. It also comes with a switch cover plate if you won’t be adjusting them and want them covered. Or you can leave it open. The XLR port is placed in an awkward spot and can limit overall movement and almost forces certain directions. Which is really my only con. But does come with a Velcro strap to keep the XLR cord to the stand. If you are using a cheaper boom arm this microphone is relatively heavy which could be an issue as well. With the cardioid polar pattern, it being a dynamic microphone, and the proximity effect, it makes it so it really only picks up what is in front of you and rejects most of what is going on around you (within reason). I found that when I was streaming that it barely picked up my voice even with clicky mechanical switches. The proximity effect is pretty strong, and you really want to use this microphone from a few inches away for the best sound. It rapidly drops off the further you get. So, if you don’t want a microphone right in your face then this isn’t a good option. The noise floor is nearly non-existent due to all of this. But since it requires a TON of gain you may want to invest in a Cloud Lifter to reduce if needed. This really comes down to your Audio Interface. I have the GoXLR Mini and it was able to provide enough power with some overhead without causing too many issues. But you may want to check with the audio interface you have or will be buying to make sure it has enough power to run this well.

    High Quality Microphone

This is one of the best microphones I have ever used. The Shure SM7B is well built and gives you the ability to tune the microphone to your liking. The tuning is done on the back on the mic and inside of the packaging is a pamphlet the explains exactly how to do so. Set up was a matter of plugging in a cord, mounting it on my stand and plugging into my Bose speaker setup. Over the past few days my family and I have enjoyed singing karaoke and it sounds amazing. My oldest child uses this to blog and has commented many times at how much better her content comes out and that there's no way to ever go back to a standard mic. Its hard to believe how much of a difference this premium microphone makes on sound quality. My one and only complaint is that this microphone did not come with a cord. So if you plan to go with this item, make sure that you purchase the cord also. I actually had to order one online due to the local store not carrying any. In my opinion a microphone this high end should come packaged with a high end cord to match. All in all the Shure SM7B is an amazing microphone and I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to produce high quality sounding vocals.

Well let's start by clarifying some important points to consider before purchasing this great microphone. It requires an audio interface or a voice recorder that allows you to connect the microphone with a XLR cable, this microphone does not require phantom power however for a higher quality result, it is recommended to use a preamp which may require phantom power, as this microphone is of very good quality but is required to raise the gain and a preamp can help you to have enough volume with the least possible noise and pair headphones to monitor the volume levels of your voice. The unboxing is easy and simple, inside the box you will find the documentation, sticker, user guide and the microphone, XLR cable is not included. I have a desktop mic stand, a voice recorder zoom h6 and a Dynamite in-line preamp, recording at 4100 hz at 24-bit, WAV format. From the first moment I started testing I noticed that it is not only the audio quality that makes this microphone great, but actually the amount of noise it raises is very minimal and even without editing, the result you get is very good, and in post production can be improved further. On the back of the microphone you can modify the frequency response, it will depend on the type of voice, tastes and needs of each person, in any of the possible configurations, the result is unmatched. It seems to me that the design is serious but at the same time attractive, it is a very popular microphone and used by many content creators and streamers, I have no doubt that it is one of the best alternatives. Currently I create content for YT and this microphone certainly raises the quality of my videos, looks great and one of the things that impresses me is that without the help of any software has an impressive control of the very high frequencies that can get to pick up the microphone, I mean that this microphone does not distort the sound when you speak very close to it or you get to shout or raise your voice by accident, it's really amazing, hence why when streaming is a great ally, I really do not find cons in this microphone Shure SM7B if we consider what is required to get the best result of it. Whether for voice recording, instruments, podcast, streaming, content creation, this microphone will not disappoint you, on the contrary it will surely surprise you, I definitely recommend it highly.

The Shure SM7B microphone is well known in the recording industry & in premium live gigs. I placed the SM7B above my cymbals on my drum kit. The presence of the hard hitting crash is beyond amazing! It will take up to 180dB without clipping, making it ideal for drums & cymbal sound recording & reproduction. I select the presence boost (emphasizes the midrange) which rolls off the bass. That is the secret to the sweetest cymbal sound I have ever heard. You can also select bass boost for close-up voice pick-up. The SM7B is ruggedly built, making it ideal for moving it from gig to gig, without worry. The yoke mounting facilitates easy installation & removal. It is a heavy microphone, so be sure your mic stand is built to hold a serious piece of hardware. Even with the gain cranked up, I have no hum, despite a myriad of electronic gear in close proximity. This mic has internal shielding just to eliminate hum. This will be particularly important in Podcasting & Streaming, where you will not encounter interference from monitors & other electronic equipment. A built-in pop filter is extremely effective for close-to-your-mouth audio pick-up. The cardioid pick-up pattern is very effective at rejecting sounds that are off-axis. CONCLUSION: The Shure SM7B added clarity to my kit that is beyond belief! It earned my highest recommendation.

This microphone has a pretty legendary reputation. After using it, I finally understand why! First of all, there is the fact that is manufactured by Shure. That alone tells you it comes from a quality bloodline. The general appearance of the mic is sleek and professional. I wasn't sure at first if I would like the placement of the XLR connection and how it attaches onto my microphone boom, but once it arrived I found it looked great. This microphone REQUIRES an audio interface. If you do not have one you will have to purchase one. I found that with this microphone connected to an audio interface via an XLR cable, it blew away all other microphones that I own that only hook up to USB. The mic has adjustments on the back to control the tone. I like that you can cover the switches with a plate to hide them from view once you have them set. It also comes with two different covers for the microphone. One is larger than the other and prevents pops from affecting the audio recording. I wish the microphone had a mute button on it like most other mics, but the lack thereof is a minor issue in my book. The microphone is clear and really brings out the depth of my voice in ways other microphones I have used cannot even come close. The hype is real. You won't be disappointed if you purchase this microphone.

Best XLR Microphone for under $500

I've been using a fairly expensive USB Mic for a little over a year now. I have to say, just feeling the Mic while setting it up evokes quality. Compared to my USB Mic, the Shure's mount weighs what my entire USB weighs. I might have to get another desk mount but we'll see. It feels absolutely solid and it certainly gives you the feeling it's going to last a long time. Setting it up was quick and painless. I've only got a really cheap budget Mixer hooked up to my PC as I'm working on upgrading things, next up will be a certain popular mixer most are familiar with. I have to say, I'm likely beyond underutilizing this Mic, given the pricing, quality and typical usage in Studio recording. To get it setup, I did have to play around with it alot, between the mixer, settings on the base of the mic and so forth. I ended up watching a lot of YouTube videos to better understand just what I was getting myself in to. The photo's I took were prior to hooking it up as I was waiting on the Mixer to arrive as it was repeatedly delayed. In any case, if you want uncompromised quality for a Microphone nearly any use case scenario but don't want to spend a fortune, the SM7B will be the best bang for your buck. The legacy that Shure has is nothing short of legendary.

The SM7B has such clear audio, its crazy. I used it with a RodeCaster Pro II and came from the AT-2020. It really changed everything and got rid of the reverb and echos I had in previous mics. I went from hating my voice to loving it.

Sure SM7 is a legendary dynamic mic for a reason. It is used in many professional and home studios for decades. It delivers great sound. Yeah, it's quite big and heavy, and it's quite demanding in terms of the mic preamp requirements (needs about +60dB of gain). Other than that it's just very good. SM7B was a great addition to the condenser mics I have. I use it for vocals and electric guitar recording with good results. It definitely worth the money

I cane frim a Hyper X Quadcast S with tweaked filters. After buying this 450$ mic and an extra $200+ on the cloudlifter, xlr cables, and audio interface. I sound the same but just more louder. Might need to look into tweaking it more to maximize the quality, but maybe my voice just wasnt made for this dynamic mic to do it any justice.

Previous mic was a hyperX quad cast; it was good but this is an entirely different beast and rightfully so. $400 is not cheap, but hey if you make videos and want to make the "highest quality content and settle for nothing but the best then why not".
