Many appreciate the remote's range and the convenience of its macro buttons, although some wish it had a backlight and improved battery life. Top Notch Remote Control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great remote control. Easy to setup, macro function is awesome for programming consecutive commands. Has nearly every function covered with a button on the remote. Straight edges are not the most comfortable when holding, they could have contoured the remote better.

Good if your equipment is on its internal list
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My mother in law has a new tv, a relatively new cable receiver and old DVD/VCR player. While the universal remote that came with the TV knew all of the devices, she was frustrated with having to switch back and forth to adjust volume and channel. It was also hard to swithc to the dvd and vcr and back again. The sony did not know 2 of the devices, the TV and samsung dvd/vcr. I figured I would use the teach function to teach the sony buttons from the other remotes.. Unfortunately, there are an angonizing number of buttons to press, 7 in all on the sony, to get the remote to learn *each* button of the unknown device's remote. Repeat: 7 button presses on the sony to learn 1 button of an existing remote. Since I had to remotes to learn all buttons from, I stopped there. I called sony, who spent 5 minutes trying to collect marketing information and 1 minute to tell me how we were going to have to do the painful - 7 buttons for 1 button learning. I stopped the call and took it back to bestbuy who traded it for a different brand/model of remote. If it doesn't have one (or more) of your devices, its quite painful to set up. If you get past that its an ok device from what I can tell. The problem is, how do you know if it knows your equipment?? I went with the logitech 300 as I have its big brother already for my tv. You can validate all of the devices online before you buy. Bring it home, plug it into your pc and tell it what devices you have. It had a few questions about the buttons on one of the existing remotes, and to validate all I had to do was aim the existing remote at the logitech, push the requested button, it took care of the rest. It programs via the usb cable in a minute or two

Very nice for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried a different remote first but exchanged it for this one. Even when this remote didn't have a code for a device the learning function worked great. No problems learning my Insignia Blu-Ray player, Microsoft Media Center, and even learned a remote for a heater.

Excellent quality ! Great Sony product.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was very easy to set-up and is excellent quality. Works great ! This is just another Sony product that I am satisfied with. They have by far the best customer service on the phone or online "live chat". Will definitely buy more Sony products.

A good inexpensive learning remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking to replace a lost Sony TV remote and this did the trick. Didn't need to program it for the Sony TV. It also allowed me to program some other remotes (DVD and TiVO) into without too much hassle. I only wish it lit up in the dark for easier use. A little hard to find some of the buttons as they aren't real big. Other than that, it can't be beat for the price and if you are looking to replace a Sony remote, I would get this instead of a dedicated one. More features and is a "learning" remote for less than $30.

Awesome Rmote!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote does everything! I had a little trouble understanding how to get the remote to learn functions from my original remotes that weren't included with the codes in the manual, but I figured it out. It says in the manual to just press the button on the sony remote you want to program, but you have to press and hold it while you send the signal from the original remote. After I figured that out I was able to get it to learn all the functions I needed. It now does everything I wanted it to. I really only need one remote now. This one! I have a Panasonic TV, Motorolla cable box, Kenwood receiver, Zenith VCR, and Sanyo DVD. You even have four buttons to record macros on. I have it turn on my tv, receiver and cable box with one button.

Would buy again!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Biggest difference from our last remote, which passed away, is that it has a decimal point key. This is critical for changing to a HD channel. Before it was enter a number and then hit the channel up key to get high definition - - thereby making the recall key useless. Now we can go straight to the channel. One criticism - even though it's a Sony product the remote does not work with Sony's Playstation 3.

Best remote yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned a lot of "universal" remotes before and all they would really do is turn my equipment off and on and raise and lower my volume, but this remote goes way beyond that. I was able to control an Aiwa receiver that is about 10 years old and be able to customize some keys to change different settings. I hooked it up with my new 50 in. Sony rear projection and a new Sony upconvert DVD player and I am able to control everything. It does set up quickly with code numbers, but to customize things does take a little practice and time, but overall it works great. Don't be fooled by the price. This remote can do what the expensive ones can do.

Check which version before you buy at store
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This model is superseded by the RM-VLZ620 which is identical except cosmetically. Bestbuy.com said the item was available when I searched this product, but it is the newer model that is in stock. The remote I picked up at the local Best Buy has one issue that makes it no better than the lower level Sony remote. It will not LEARN. It just flashes its SET light rapidly when you press the button you'd like to set to your other remotes button function and kicks you out of LEARN mode. Being able to customize the commands was the main reason for buying this remote so it is disapointing to waste a lot of time on an inexpensive device that has such obvious quality control issues. Giving 3 stars because I really do like this remote, and may just have to return them until I find a fully functioning unit. Also, I love the macros you can set-up to turn on TV+DVD+Receiver or TV+Receiver or other combos of buttons. Sony customer support is not very good, as they are just trained to read the manual to you and lack and magic knowledge to really help you (at least in this case). The accompaning list of codes is nearly all encompassing, It appears if it is IR this device will have a code for it or you'll be able to search for it.

Can Anybody Say Flexibility?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a cool remote. Its learning feature is very useful if you cannot find codes for your product. I could not find any universal remotes for my new Olevia HDTV that would work so I decided to purchase this remote. After some quick "learning"/programming the remote worked flawlessly with my new HDTV. I also use the remote for my Samsung DVD recorder. There were codes for it. If you cannot find a uni-remote for your electronic device, this one will work. For the learning function to work all you need is the original remote for the electronic device. Buy It!!

This remote is really awesome
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote is sweet. It learns any function you need it too. It controls lots of stuff. It has macros that can be given a time delay for slower electronics that suffer from boot up (like certain Blu-Ray players and receivers). Back lit keys would make this thing complete and I would have gladly paid a few dollars more for that feature.

Good All Around Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very happy with the functionality of this remote. My only complaint is that it is not very easy to set up using the "learn function" setup properly. There are lots of steps to take, and the process takes up a lot of time.

Works very easily especially with Sony products
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not all the buttons are easily understood for all devices but once you figure out which buttons work the remote controls most features. Note that with devices that use "magic" remotes that work by pointing at menus and clicking probably won't be completely compatible with this remote.
