This is my first subwoofer and I'm impressed. Incredibly easy to set up and this thing booms. Tested it with Blade Runner 2049 Atmos, which has the best opening audio for testing sound systems, and it felt like a theater.
I'd held off on a sub for a long time, seeing them as not necessary, but feeling your bass enhances the experience tenfold.

I've tried few powered subwoofers but I ended up buying this Sony subwoofer. It's very powerful, too loud , very clear , looks better than other subwoofers and not too big which is good as it don't require lot space. I keep subwoofer at half volume as don't want my neighbors jump on me for boom boom of this subwoofer. Literally this subwoofer shakes my house even at half volume . My living room is abt 400 sq feet big but this subwoofer is more than enough powerful at half volume. And best part is not expansive but very affordable price $159

It’s a good value for the cost. It has auxiliary inputs and is powered. I use it as a second woofer with a 5.2.4 atmos system.
If you’re using it as a primary woofer with bookshelf speakers I would recommend it. If you’re looking for something that is going to shake the house I’d suggest something a little bigger.

Hi BobbyS, Thank you for your positive review! We're glad to hear that you find the SACS9 to be a good value for the cost. It's great to know that the auxiliary inputs and powered features are meeting your needs. Using it as a second woofer in your 5.2.4 Atmos system sounds like a fantastic setup. We appreciate your recommendation for using it as a primary woofer with bookshelf speakers. For those looking for a more powerful experience to shake the house, we agree that a larger woofer might be more suitable. We appreciate you for sharing your insights, thanks for choosing Sony! -Sam

Note this review is for "Sony - Core Series 10" 115W Active Subwoofer" although I include comments since I added it to my soundbar.
I just wanted to add some depth and more bass to my 2.1 Yamaha sound bar which I bought at discount at costco for 114 which is Very good for what it is! However more bass is needed for using it with movies or TVs with surround programming. I did not want to spend an arm and a leg so sometimes this sells for $99-149 which is discount over regular prices.
Plugged it in an it just works..including with Yamaha App to control settings and volume and eq. Very Nice!
Now the sound is in a word..Room shaking at least a smaller room! Wow! plus it adds depth and punch to anything really and I have to be careful to lower the setting for volume on the sub-woofer otherwise it can overpower the soundbar. Over all I get a lot of depth and clarity and YES Punch and BASS you CAN FEEL!
This was a great choice don't need to spend more and with sound bar I could not be more pleased!
Added benefits: Subwoofer is easily recognized by my soundbar and APP for it. It has Automatic power on switch which works great. Has cutoff and reverse phase switches for more enhancement and tweaking of subwoofer on subwoofer. Extra connections. And a 10" subwoof with a lot of Punch and easily loud enough for small to med room. Bass you CAN feel and shake the windows.
Well done SONY
Truly a "Best Buy"!

My Logitech Z2300 finally gave up after 14 years. I needed a solution to upgrade/replace my desktop gaming workplace. I purchased Klipsch R41PM to cover the 76hz to 21 khz range (see my other review on those amazing Powered monitor speakers To cover the low end, I thought about pairing the speakers with an 8" or 10" Klipsch subwoofer solution, but opted for the Sony SA-CS9 Core Series 10" simply due to the fact that it would be hidden behind my desk out of site in a 12 x 12 office room and should provide more than enough low end, saving me about $150 in the process, I was right. What the Sony may lack in build aesthetics and overall looks, especially on the back panel (mostly black plastic and only the controls it truly needs) it makes up for in price performance and truly delivers, it makes the Reference line of Klipsch speakers shine through. The low end 28-200 Hz frequency response tackles the low end with ease right at the perfect crossover where my Klipsch speakers end at 76Hz spectrum. The effect is not boomy or a low rumble but a perfect distinct clarified sound that compliments the high and mid-range with a perfect throaty punch. The footprint of this 10” sub would make you think something larger is lurking behind my desk out of site. The size and price range were huge selling points for me, as I needed a quality solution with a small footprint that wouldn’t break the bank, yet defined an audiophile level Powered Monitor. Great sub all around and look no further if you want to keep costs under control but desire the quality to define your higher end speakers. Well done Sony! You put the build quality for a “under $200” sub where it matters, in the guts rather than the superficial looks. Would purchase again without a thought.

Great product. I used the one cane it came with. I have a pioneer elite sc-81 and it didn’t work at first. Had to go into settings and change the speaker config so that it was 5.1 enabled with subwoofer displayed. Once I saved that setting then it worked perfectly. Placed it on the floor and it fits right under a nook next to the tv. The low profile is perfect and people don’t even know it’s right there. With in ceiling speakers and this subwoofer in the front of my living room.. it’s got very impressive sound and clean base.

Very easy to set up with any receiver that has the subwoofer connection. I love how I can choose to keep it on, or have a turn on and off automatically when the audio signal comes through. Make sure you have a long enough cord if you need to set it further away from your receiver, and if needed, you can also connect a front left and right directly to the box. I finally found the perfect blend where the subwoofer fades in and is present but not overpowering… I feel like this unit gives the most control to find your perfect mix.

I have 4x SS-F7000P, 2x SS-CS5 and an SS-CS8 in my 5.1.2 setup. The 7000's got OK bass but they're lacking in the super low frequencies. I purchased this subwoofer to hit those low lows and complete my all-Sony speaker system.
The price per performance is excellent. They won't rattle the neighborhood but they'll shake the floor in a small to medium living room.
The auto shutoff is too quick. On parts of a movie where the actors are talking or sneaking around, the subwoofer shuts off. Then, there's an EXPLOSION and I miss the first few seconds of the sound. It should have a longer timer on it... maybe 10-15 minutes instead of ~2 minutes. I keep the switch in the always-on position and plugged it into a smart plug that I control with my phone. If I don't need it, I turn the plug off.
I wish Sony didn't drop the black woodgrain look that the 7000's had, but at least they're not piano finish (horrible look imho).
Keep in mind, speaker placement and polarity is everything... especially when it comes to subwoofers (stupid physics). If some frequencies (musical notes) are missing or you hear a bunch of bass in one part of the room but not you primary listening area, flip the polarity switch and check again. If that doesn't work, try moving the subwoofer to a different location. Just a few inches could make a huge difference. Also, don't obstruct the porthole. The port is on the back so avoid placing the back against a wall. A good rule of thumb is: diameter of port = distance from wall. - Pro tips from an audio technician

Boosts the lower range of the audible spectrum. Not too large or heavy, so it is easy to install. The single RCA input makes setup easy, or alternatively there are speaker input and output terminals for those using ordinary speaker wire to and from the subwoofer. This is an active (powered speaker), but does not have bluetooth, so it needs to be wired to an amplifier or receiver. It does what it is meant to do, and I am satisfied.

Pros,
1. I got them at holiday pricing for 100 less than MSRP.
2. 10 inch woofer.
3. Has a passthrough for running other speaker separately with your receiver.
4. Has a power down mode for saving power.
5. Has a crossover adjustment to fine tune your sound with your other speakers and this comes in handy when you know your maximum speaker ranges.
6. Has a phase control for normal and inverted(or 180 degree).
7. Goes well with a two subwoofer setup.
8. Has enough power and punch for small to mid-sized rooms.
9. It's a well vented system so they're not likely to overheat.
10. The grill is removable.
Cons,
1. The power down mode can clip your sound when running your A/V receivers at lower volumes because if there's not enough bass it will power down when it shouldn't. Keep this in mind if you're watching movies at night and you don't want to wake up your kids or neighbors.
2. At MSRP they're not that good. You can get the 10 inch Polk or Elac for much cheaper and they sounds better with similar features for a lower price.
3. For being rated at 115 watts peak power I'd say the RMS wattage is more like 45 to 50 watts which is still plenty to power a small to mid-sized room, but not as powerful as that cheaper competition I mentioned in number 2.
4. The build quality is decent, but it looks and feels a little on the cheap side. Then again what can we expect for a lower end home theater subwoofer?
5. It only has one RCA speaker input and no true true LFE channel.
All in all for the price I paid I'm not complaining, I more than got my money's worth and for that price at the time I was not going to find a better 10 inch subwoofer. Now if I had to pay MSRP I would have gone with the 10 inch ELAC or Polk Audio subwoofer. If you can get this subwoofer for 120 or less then in my opinion go for it otherwise go with ELAC or Polk Audio.

Bought this on sale and was really skeptical at first since it was a 10inch sub and the price point was affordable, but this thing rocks . I am beyond happy, you can really feel the bass and has cool features like a power save mode that detects when there is bass for the sub to put out so you don’t to waste power having it on . You will not find a better sub for the price I can guarantee it

Very tight bass, but no real extension or “boom” mostly all for preference. Best for movies and tv may lack bass in some music genres. Very good for small apartments not so much anything larger than 15x10. Likely I went dual subs to smooth out frequency response and compared and made enormous difference. Although retail price may not be best which is why it’s 4 star but at half price like I got the pair for then for sure 5 star be realistic in expectations.

Very happy with this purchase. I updated a 20 year old Sony subwoofer and this one sounds just as good without the added cut off noise. It’s a little smaller and getting it on sale at half price makes it worth buying compared to more expensive subwoofers like Klipstch.
