I needed a new camcorder since my previous one no longer was holding the battery charge and had a graduation to record. My previous JVC camcorder was a hard drive based unit which works great with a 30G hard drive. The unit did get hot when used heavily. This newer Sony runs off a Micro SD card which was nice with a 32G card I purchased with it. The unit is very light and did not get hot like my older unit. I did not have much time to read through the manuals so I basically opened the box, plugged it in to charge, dropped in the SD card and went to the graduation. Graduation was about 2 hours and had about 33% battery left and plenty of memory yet on the SD card. I like the weight, the zoom features, and surprise at the audio pick up this camcorder has.

I replaced a 6 year old Sony HDR-CX160 camcorder and had paid $450 for it in 2011 through Costco. It replaced a Sony D8 camcorder and a previous Sony Hi8 camcorder which was the first camcorder I purchased about 25 years ago. The CX160 was a great compact HD camcorder, 3” touchscreen, smile detection, usb cord in the strap, etc. Very similar to the current Sony CX455 except for its few added features over the years . . . batteries are even compatible including the CX675 so got to reuse those, The CX160 was a great camera, many recording hours, a trip to Spain, and multiple drops survived. Eventually the usb plug cable where it attached to the camera wore out as I would use it to charge, instead of the adapter that came with it, so take care when using the usb to charge though Sony sells the adapter if you want to go that route. After multiple drops, the start/stop switch broke off and I would have to use the onscreen record button. Finally, this last drop did the camera in by knocking an internal lens loose, so it will no longer focus . . . time for a new camera.
I considered taking the leap to Sony’s consumer 4K, but they were a much larger and heavier camcorder. For home videos, HD works more than fine for me and I became spoiled with the CX160’s light weight and small size and in my opinion, HD is currently easier to handle and store (vs 4K), and easily burns to blu-ray.
So why did I choose the CX675 over the CX455? Having had some type of camcorder for 25 years for comparison, the “Balanced Optical SteadyShot” hands down is awesome! Yes, the CX455 has the Optical SteadyShot, but so did my CX160. When my children were younger, it was fun following them around or zooming in during sporting or performance events. Each time, you would get the “shakiness” which I accepted as par for the course. The “Balanced” takes out that shakiness and the video looks so much better (see the side/side comparison video on Sony’s website and videos folks have uploaded on youtube). Yes the “balanced” look is legit and does not hurt the quality of the image. When you check out the camcorder in person, it’s cool watching the lens in motion - it actually moves. Is it worth the $200 price difference and the slight increase in size/bulk as compared to my CX160 or CX455? Yep, totally worth that investment and slight size increase which I have noticed has not been a big deal for me though it was an initial con- and you get an accessory shoe to boot - though I admittedly never used one, even on my Hi8 and D8 camcorders.
Be sure to get a 46 mm UV protection filter, it screws right on the lens. It helps protect the auto lens cover which I have messed up on occasion with my CX160 and have had to delicately pop it back into place. Every once in awhile you might see light glare on this filter, it you do, just take it off and replace it when you are done.
There have been comments about the picture quality having a greenish hue to it, if you experience this, which I did, you just need to to go into the settings and check your different white balances, then it will be fine. Some comments have been about the touch screen, there’s a calibration setting you can run and i think the touchscreen works fine.
Finally a favorite “new” feature for me is the dual video recording mode that captures both AVCHD and MP4. This allows you to transfer very quickly the smaller MP4 file container via a WiFi direct connection (no router needed) to a smart phone. Per specs it appears it might be easier to do on an Android, but still works well on my iPhone 7. Some reviews say they had issues setting up this ability with the Sony PlayMemories App, but I was patient and learned how to do it correctly and now I can do this slick transfer in less than a minute and post, email, drop, or text a video clip, no computer needed. You can also use your app to control the camcorder and use your phone as a view finder, again, no wifi router needed, it’s a direct wireless connection. App works great, only wish you could “toggle” between camera control and video/picture transfers, but no big deal.
For those who are looking at camcorders vs recording on smartphones, there is a huge quality and functionality difference. I still use my phone on occasion, but love the versatility and quality of a good consumer camcorder, especially this one. You won’t regret it. One of my children’s favorite things to do is to watch themselves and others from years past on the big screen with great audio and these camcorders make that possible and easy to do.
Overall, very satisfied and happy with my purchase.

This camera is excellent for the price. With a tripod, takes clear, non-jittery videos. Stabilization is great, the zoom is steady and the camera is very easy to operate. Love the opening of the lens window when the camera door is opened, turning on the camera. The only two things that would be nice are external storage to a video card and an easier way to delete videos once recorded. I didn't think these two reasons were enough to knock the camera down to 4 stars though, as the videos are crystal clear and the camera is so easy to operate. We have used it mostly for videotaping football games, but we did record a nephew's wedding and that turned out great too..

This is a great camera for the price first of all. I still like to shoot video much more with a video camera than a DSLR. Real life means some zoom is needed and this camera’s size and clarity are perfect to move around and get very steady video. It’s very quick power on and overall ease of use are perfect for those with little experience or those like myself who spent decades in the TV industry.
Here’s where it’s not quite as great. If you’re in a low light situation and max out the zoom remember this is excellent technology for the price but it will lose its sharp focus dramatically. But in good to decent lighting and moderate zoom you will be extremely pleased.

from powered off to on and recording is just a few seconds. camera captures excellent video for the price. Stock battery is great for several hours of recording and you can charge from Phone power cable to portable battery if you need those extra recording hours. Touch screen is a little finicky, but once you figure out the sweet spots there is no issue. Zoom is excellent, from digital to optical no issue. the built in gimbal for the lens makes recording while walking great, bounce is minimal on recordings.

I bought this camera to film a wedding. My last camera was a Sony using digital tape, about a decade old. I'm partial to the brand. The indoor video was fuzzy (afternoon wedding in modern church with large windows). Outdoor sharp and colorful. The image stabilization was quite good. The touchscreen is poor. In fact, the upper left corner icon, which returns you to previous menu items works about 20% of the time, requiring distracting repeat pushes using bigger or smaller fingerprints with varying pressure before it works. I returned the camera to Best Buy and the salesman checked two other cameras-- same result. There seems to be something about that corner of the screen which is poorly touch sensitive-- and there is no backup hard button to push. I was hoping for much more from Sony after ten years. I kept the camera because the flash drive storage is finally an improvement over digital tape with respect to file compression and because for the price point, I don't think there is a significantly better camera out there. With the rapid evolution of quality of smart phone video, it seemed the only advantage I had over some of the iPhone footage I watched of the same event was better storage, zoom and mechanical image stabilizing.

One month using my Sony Camcorder & it's more than I expected. I used it for close up pictures and video clips of my Grandchildren's school activities and for Gospel music rehearsals and concerts. Features highlights that I most like: image stabilization, 5.1 zoom microphone, dual video recording, smart phone remote control, internal & external memory, optical & digital zoom. I've always enjoyed taking pictures and videos; I'm finding this camcorder enhances my capabilities & reduces my need to pack around two weighty cameras

Was looking for an update to an old Sony I had which I love, but wasn't keep a charge anymore and it used the small tape which is hard to find. So I like the size of this one and it was a Sony have had pretty good luck with Sony products. It is light weight, easy to use, I wished it would have came with a strap, had to buy one, also had to buy a cord to fit from camcorder to a DVD Recorder so I could record from Sandisk to DVD, you can use computer, (but a bit confusing for me.) but easier for me to use the DVD Recorder that I have. I'm a bit old school, if it works the old way, why change. You will have to find the cord at a Radio Shack, Best Buy don't carry. But all in all I seem to enjoy the new camcorder. The Price was good didn't break the bank, was on sale. I would recommend for home use. I am happy.

I purchased this camera because my ancient one died on me last minute before my wife's EdD graduation. Last minute purchase but the price was awesome and the quality was that of Sony's well known name. Excellent zoom features, pictures while video recording, and recording features were great. The built in wifi and phone app are a cool feature too. Put the camera on a tripod and you can zoom and take pics with controls on your phone.

This camera performs better than I ever thought it would. Most impressive to me was the microphone which picked up voice is clearly and distinctly on a busy New York St. The picture is clear and the camera itself is very light and easy to use. I'm having some difficulty reviewing videos and pictures, where it's not very evident how you switch between reviewing the two. There are times I want to look at the video and I can't get out of the pictures. But all in all I'm very happy with this purchase

We love this camera. We needed a smaller camcorder for recording baseball games and this one is perfect. It gets through the small opening in the fences and captures the whole field. The picture is amazing. The quality of the footage is very impressive. I would recommend this camera to anyone. It is super easy to use, and has excellent sound, video, and is lightweight.

The Sony HD-CX675 is better than I expected for the price. Near excellent video quality, light, easy to use, battery (standard v70) last longer than expected.(well over 2+hours and the IS (5 axis image stabilization) is EXCELLENT! you can literally walk around with the Sony and get buttery smooth videos. All in all I am very happy with my Sony CX675.

I did some thorough research on this camera before deciding to buy for myself for home and business use. It takes clear pictures. One time the battery would not charge, so we plugged the cord into another outlet. That seemed to fix the problem. Not sure if it was the camera or the outlet. I like the size of it and ease of use.
