The Sony Walkman NWZ-A17SLV gives me the option of taking my HD flac files on the go. Paired with Sony XB80BS Extra Bass Sports Wireless In-Ear Headphones or HG1 Hi-Res Portable Wireless Speaker, I get hi-res quality from my library of 24-bit 96/192mHz audio tracks. Built-in 64GB storage is sufficient for Redbook (16-bit 44.1mHz) uploads; Optional 256GB microSD card stores a considerable collection of larger 24-bit files.

Great MP3 Player, People with Hyperacusis Beware

This is a great MP3 player and I think it surpasses Ipod in a lot of ways. As other reviewers have said: it does make you feel like you're in the studio with the musicians. I actually heard strings and extra detail in songs that I didn't hear before. I really enjoyed the SensMe feature where the player categorizes the tracks by mood like relaxing, night time, upbeat, dance, extreme, ect. I'm glad they kept the equalizer presets and customization settings in the new Walkmans, I enjoy messing with it sometimes. I have Hyperacusis, which is a "heightened sensitivity to sound, with aversive or pained reactions to normal environmental sounds". There is some kind of amplification or pitch output in the player which bothers my ears a little and then minor pain after moderate to long term use, note: this has nothing to do with the volume. I've tried different settings in the player to minimize the frequency or the pitch, but I couldn't find a solution. I think the Hi-Res feature of the player is the cause of the problem for me. Anyone with different hearing sensitivities of Hyperacusis might want to pass up this MP3 player and get the Walkman NW-E390. It doesn't have SensMe and it's not Hi-Res. I hope this helps with people with Hyperacusis and for those that don't, get this player! Audiophiles and music lovers will really enjoy the Walkman NWZ-A17SLV.

    Overall a good player

I bought this player for the battery life, memory, and sound quality. My old player is also a Sony and I had great luck with it for many years. The battery life is living up to the specifications (I've used it all week on a single charge). The player feels solid versus many of the cheap plastic players you find now. The music sounds good and the display is excellent when you view photos. Unfortunately the player doesn't allow zoom of photos. A few things worth noting. I have used Media Player to rip music in the past. When I transfer music to the player with Media Player it does not transfer the cover art correctly for this player. I loaded Media Go which is what the user manual recommends and the cover art does work correctly with Media Go. Note Media Go seems much slower in transferring memory to the player. Another quirk with the player is that you have to choose whether the computer will see the player memory or the SD card in settings on the player (i.e. can't see both). You will want to leave it set to player memory until after you get any content from the player (Player and Media Go installs for the computer) transferred to your computer.

Until apple comes out with something larger than 128 GB’s... I’m sticking with this. Slot for 125 GB sim and an additional 64 gigs built in... you do the math. Sounds great and has tons of options for manipulating and optimizing sound quality.

This music player and radio has amazing sound quality. Better than any Apple product I have owned. The battery life is great, and the expandable slot for a micro SD card is a great feature as well. Definitely worth the money.

I was tired of the Apple products and the music prison they force you into. This Sony product absolutely ROCKS! Love the audio quality, love the flexible storage space (SD Card), and the battery life. The ONLY downside I have identified is the split memory. You can only have access to either the ad on SD card OR the 64G internal. Not both at the same time. Seems pretty lame to me, time for the Sony embedded programmers to step up their game. So happy to have a great non apple solution, bravo Sony!

I've tried to purchase cheaper high capacity MP3 players, but they did not last. I like the compact size compared to other MP3 players as well. My only drawback is it requires playlists. I would prefer having folders and structure my music that way.

I was looking around for a high-quality, high res MP3/FLAC player for a long time. I didn't want to go with one of the many Chinese brands out there because of different issues - nor did I want to spend an arm and a leg on some of the uber-high-end ones. I've always been a Sony fan, but I'll be honest, it's been awhile since they've done some real innovation. I think this compact player is definitely a worthy product! Not only is it slim and super-compact, it plays with enough power to drive my Audeze LCD-X! Sure those are lower impedance than the LCD-1/2/3, but still, they sound great! Additionally, when I'm looking for convenience over quality, I can pair them with my Sony BT headphones via NFC and do work around the house. Yes, there's a proprietary charging/sync cable, but at least you don't need music management software (remember their ATRAC days??) - I think you might need to use it for album art, but I didn't care about that. I have my stuff well-organized/labeled/tagged in folders and just copied my "essential collection" to the internal storage, while my trance collection (to be sorted through) is on the microSD card. I can't say enough good things about this player! Get it!

I upgraded from a Sony NWZE384 8 GB. I like the bluetooth capability. I love the ability to transfer songs from one device to another via bluetooth. I debated for a long time on buying this since this is a bit pricey. But now that I have it, I am glad. I listen to all day at work and the battery lasts all day. I like that it as an FM tuner and that I can play aac files.

We all have different listening habits. As stated, I do like the sound it produces, but it won't allow me to do the things I want to do re: my own listening habits. Now, while I do have some smaller, more trivial irritations about what this unit does, I can live with them by adapting to what the player provides. But my biggest complaint is how it handles "shuffle". It will shuffle all the songs stored into its memory, but it will NOT shuffle all the songs on a specific playlist. Instead, it shuffles the songs on one album of the playlist, then goes to the next album on the playlist and shuffles those, etc etc. This feature I do not like. Hence, 3 stars.

Easy to drag and drop music files. Great for workouts. Connects easily to my car. The only thing that was not apparent, or mentioned in the manual or on any website was that it takes a 4 pole headset.

Bought this for an overseas trip. This MP3 player packs alot of punch when used with premium headphones. Tons of memory means you'll never run out of tunes.
