Star Trek IV is a 4K redo with much better clarity and updated audio without noticeable changes to the original movie. I have old original DVD movie, and this is much better. Not surprising, but not always achieved.

The one with the whales indeed, still holds up today. And now has a tie into Star Trek Picards Final Season.

The Enterprise crew return to earth to stand trail for breaking Starfleet rules, laws & regulations for rescuing Spock as seen in Star Trek 3 the search for Spock. The original crew & Spock are on the way back to earth while an alien probe stops the Federation Starfleet in their tracks & threatens to destroy life on earth because they are trying to understand why humpback whales ceased existing on earth years ago. The Enterprise crew realize this & using the Klingon bird of prey stolen after the self destruction of the Starship Enterprise in Star Trek 3, they time wrap into the 1980’s to find a male & female humpback whales to time wrap back to their time in hopes of using the whales to call off the alien probe before the earth is completely destroyed and mostly completely covered underwater. Some funny moments like when Kirk & Spock are on a bus with a punk rocker who refuses to turn down his boombox & Spock uses the Vulcan neck punch to knock out the punk rocker which in turn turns off the boombox as well. Another good example of humor is where Uhura & Chekov go around to the locals in San Francisco asking where the nuclear wessels are while a cop just looks & watch’s them in disbelief. There is a funny exchange between government agents & Chekov after he arrested inside an American destroyer named the Enterprise. Several more funny scenes & a plot about the environment & treating the animals in said environment on earth with respect if that sort of thing appeals to you. I personally gave 2 stars for the Voyage home because of some humor but was underwhelmed besides the humor in the movie. I didn’t like it as much as most of the TOS Star Trek movies. My opinion of TOS movies from bad to good - Star Trek the motion picture, Star Trek 4 the voyage home, The Wrath of Khan, The search of Spock, The final frontier & last but truly the best of TOS movies is The undiscovered country.

My second favorite of the original Star Trek films, it's nearly more a comedy than an adventure. For A/V quality, this has lovely filmic presentation in 4K with solid enough audio to make it worth the upgrade.

The 4k and blu-ray quality are excellent. The best way to experience this film. And it is a great Star Trek film. This is a good film even if you are not a huge Star Trek fan.

Star Trek IV is great in 4K. I was a little disappointed that it did NOT include a Directors edition but it looks great and this is my favorite of this series.

ST IV is good but it might be the second weakest one in the series. It has comedy but its missing a great villain.

Great film for nostalga. I remember seeing it ss a kid and thinking how cool it was to have them back in the time I was acrually living in. I still feel that way today. Not full of dpace battles but still enough action to move the story along.
