Paul verhovens violent bug alien movie looks stunning in 4k

I was super excited when they released this movie in 4K. I won't really review the movie itself but rather the technical aspect of it. first off let me start by saying that for a movie being filmed in 1997 it still holds up to todays standards. HDR is what makes this movie a standout and main reason why I get 4k discs because thats what really going to set it apart from the 2k blu ray version. movie is presented in full screen so those with a 65" TV or bigger its gonna feel very immersive. there a bit of film grain in this but nothing to distracting. honestly I can watch this movie over and over its just a fun movie to watch. the Dolby Atmos track here is pretty good in some scenes you can really hear the air crafts fly right over your head assuming you have ceiling speakers. this is a must buy for sure :)

I was tempted to give it 5 stars just because this is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. But this is more a review of the 4k disc and not the the movie. The menus are generic and look grainy. The film it's self looks good but not great due to the age and lack of hi def cameras in the 90s. Special effects however look great, especially the bugs, ship exteriors and Want to Know More commercials. Extras are strong but limited with my favorite being the director and cast commentary. The cover art of the steelbook is excellent and it feels well made. Not 100% sure it's worth the extra 5 dollars but as a big fan, it's the best packaging of any format. If you don't already have a copy in BluRay, definitely worth the purchase.

Starship Troopers is one of those outstanding popcorn movies that works on every level. It has the eye candy as well as engaging story. Not saying it's going to win any awards for acting, but it packs a lot into it's premise. Anyways, on to the quality of the 4K release. The picture looks great! It oozes in the details in every frame, seriously. The CG looks a little dated, not bad or terribly fake, just a little dated. Besides that all the facial pores,background textures, and did I mention oozing liquids...well they look incredible. A+ on this release and I have to say the sound is bonkers too. Bonkers! So much is going on around you in the Atmos mix.

I am a fan of this film and I have owned every upgraded version of it over the years. I was not prepared for this at all I felt it would be improved but it was so impressive that in a lot of scenes I just paused the picture and all of us just looked at each other and said WOW! This is 4k this is why I upgraded there is no way you could watch this and not see a massive difference in picture quality If you are a fan and are 4k ready buy this movie invite some friends and demo this for them they will be blown away I own most of the big 4k movies out today and this is without a doubt one of the best Demo worthy picture and sound

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since it came out in theatres Very underrated movie and one of my favorite SF movies. I always wanted to get it on bluray Since I had it on special edition DVD But reading about people who bought the bluray from 2009 and couldn’t play on their Sony Bluray player, I held off. In addition I heard one scen wasn’t edited properly on US bluray. So when I saw Best Buy release Starship Troopers on Steelbook 20th Anniversary edition. I decided to buy figuring Sony would fix the problems in the 2017 bluray, and I was right It works on my bluray player and I don’t see any editing problems The movie looks great on bluray Plus you get Starship Troopers on 4k Which looks and sounds amazing!

This 4k blu ray looked excellent, I have a 4k tv and 4k player so this is a movie to try out the format , upgrading from dvd , and the quality is leaps and bounds. I would say the larger the tv the more of a difference between the formats. It’s like If your playing a blu ray and dvd on a 20 inch tv you cant tell as much of a difference especially if you sit father from the tv. In that case save your money. It is a campy fun sci fi not meant to take seriously. The sound is also an improvement. I would say the 4k format really makes a difference if you have a good surround sound system hooked up o a 4k tv and player.

A lot of the reviews here focus on technical details related to the various digital formats the film has been available in. A few of the other reviews focus on the politics of the movie as contrasted with the politics of the book. I want to start someplace different than either of those two approaches. To me, this movie is campy, cheesy, and over the top. Yet somehow it is still an engaging war story that grabs you and drags you along with the action. Heck, even the wooden acting by some of the main characters works as part of the campy fun. And the movie really is fun, so I'm happy to give it four stars.

The 4K edition of Starship Troopers is amazing and crisp! Some viewers have addressed the high grain “filter” that is obvious in certain scenes such as Rico in class, being asked the difference between a citizen and a civilian. The high definition of the scene was askew with this grainy tint. But throughout the movie it only happens sparingly and in small clumps, specifically on faces and distant CGI. Overall, it is not too bothersome and you notice minor details that can easily be missed on VHS, such as Dizzes bruise on her neck after the combat instructor choked her out.

Having a record for the most round fired in a movie should give you a little bit of an idea what this one is about. Rico and the Roughnecks take on the alien big hordes. This 4K steel book release brings all the action (and gory effects) onto the screen like never before. Granted, it’s got the cheese factor going for it as well (so check your brain at the door and just enjoy the show). The steel book stands out with the case artwork. It’s more than just the movie poster or the main character’s face (like many other steel books). If you haven’t seen it before, you should check it out.

"Starship Troopers" is a imaginative, gory, and graphic Sci Fi film that fortunately doesn't take itself too seriously. Based roughly on the novel by science fiction legend Robert Heinlein, the film depicts the bloody war between Earth and the distant world of Klendathu. A world which is inhabited by gigantic arachnids wanted to take over our beautiful blue orb. The story centers around a number of young infantry and pilots who join the Federation in order to become citizens and fight the "bugs". This film has great special effects which invoke some genuine thrills and chills. Not for the young or faint-hearted, "Starship Troopers" is a fun way to kill 129 minutes without losing too many brain cells.
