Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Wall Connector J1772 Hardwired Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger for its easy installation, sleek design, and competitive price compared to other J1772 chargers on the market. Tesla and Ford owners appreciate its compatibility with multiple electric vehicles. While some customers wish it came with a Tesla adapter, the overall feedback is positive.

A nearly perfect EVSE for your EV

The EVSE from Tesla is a great charging option for your J1772 equipped vehicle. As long as your wiring is capable of handling the maximum output of 48 amps and your car is capable of charge speeds of 11.5 kWh on a 240v circuit, this will be enough to charge any modern EV fit sale on the market (including Teslas with the adapter). The user interface is tricky to get into, but useful for setting up power output based off your panel config. My only critique, there release button when it’s connected to either the car our the dock is under a rubber boot built into the handle design. It’s at times slightly harder to depress than other EVSE designs, but this means it’s also protected from the elements if it’s mounted outdoors exposed to weather.

The best charger for Non-tesla EVs

This is the way to go! I purchased a 2023 Cadillac Lyriq and it included a level 1 charger right out of the dealer. The level 1 charger is extremely slow (taking up to 4-5 days to charge from 0-80%) and should only be used for emergencies. The level 1 charger also includes a level 2 adapter, so in theory, you can have an electrician install a “50 AMP NEMA 14-50 Receptacle” (commonly found at electric dryers installations) and improve the charging speed to within 24 hours for 0-100% charge. However, the build quality of the portable charger included does not feel like it could stand a daily plug/unplug for the years to come if being used as the main charger. For that reason, I looked around for a more reliable Fixed-Wall charger. There are many options in the market, and the Lyriq requires a J1772 plug for charging. So below a describe combination that can be used when searching for a wall charger Using a Tesla-Wall charger that comes standard with a NACS and purchasing a NACS-to-J1772 adapter (since the Lyric and most non-tesla cars come with the J1772 at this moment. This might change in the future). Using a J1772 Wall charger. There are many options available, in fact Cadillac suggest their own product called “Ultium powerup level 2 charger” however since these products are usually new/not-mature in the market there is some reliability concerns around them (suggestions: Chargepoint, Emporia, Wallbox, Tesla-for-non-Teslas are just a few options that you might consider). I went with the Tesla-Wall connector J1772 and installed it as “Hardwired” (this mean that the charger is plugged directly to the circuit box instead of connecting it to a 50 AMP receptacle) this way you get the fastest speed possible when charging. I made the decision because of electricians recommendations, and also since Tesla has been around for more than 10 years they have matured enough to create reliable Wall-Charger products. It has been working perfectly with no issues at all. I never had a glitch, bad connections, weird noise, NOTHING! Pros: High quality product Simple installation Slim and flexible design (you can provide main connection from the top or button of the device, other charges might limit you to only run connection from the bottom) Cable does not “tangle” easily Looks great, light to pick-up and handle Cons: Does not provide App integration (most cars have their own app for charging schedules and charging management) Conclusion: This product is HIGHLY recommended and purchasing it from Best buy will get you the best warranty and company-consumer policies.

Great for a Tesla Non-Tesla home

We have a Tesla and a Mustang Mache, so when we decided to swap our NEMA 14-50 for a hardwired charging station it really came down to this and the Wallbox. This was less expensive and although it does not have a way to tweak and view charging stats in an app like some other units, we can do that stuff with the car and Tesla/Ford apps themselves. Jt is still wifi connected for firmware updates and setting amperage on initial setup, that pricess was pretty straightforward. The j1772 plug seems to of great quality, is nice and slim compare with the Ford mobile unit and is working great.

The charger works great, delivering a stable 11 kW to my car at 48 Amps. I was very dissapointed to see that Tesla does not support this charger with their app. However, found an iPhone app called Wall Monitor that connects to the charger and provides spme data. If soneone else can make an app, how cone Tesla doesnt!?

Another top notch Tesla product. We got this charger so we can charge both our Tesla and a plug in hybrid with the same charger. At the time, it was actually cheaper than many of the other home chargers on the market. We’re very pleased with it. You DO need to use the adapter that comes with your Tesla with this charger as it has the J1772 standard on the end. If you don’t need to charge anything other than a Tesla, buy the less expensive regular Tesla home charger.

Although any charger can essentially work with any car, the benefit of this unit is that it integrates well with the Tesla app where you can see your car and the charger in the same app. I'm sure the functionality can be achieved with other similar high quality chargers but this integration is nice. It's not the cheapest but it's also not the most expensive so I deem the value as good. Installation and commissioning was also pretty straightforward assuming your electrician can provide 240V service access.

So far so good! We are saving so much time and money with this. It does exactly what it suppose to and it was quick installation from a electrian. I only wish it came with its own tesla adapter. The tesla comes with an adapter but I would rather keep that one in the car for when we are away from the house. It's not a big deal to just take the adapter off when we go on trips but we will probably buy another adapter just have an extra one.

Excellent charger for third party non-Tesla's. Electrician went the extra mile to ensure it followed all proper codes when installing within the wall and I patched the holes in the wall myself. Used #4 wire to handle the heat/conductivity although #6 is usually enough by U.S. code for 48A on a 60AMP breaker (you only want to use up to 80% of the breaker's range). It does use wifi to update the charger but you can't manage charging profiles with it if that's what you're looking for. My vehicle has onboard charging profiles to only charge at night so this wasn't an issue for me.

…for the money. The setup is super easy to follow thanks to being able to access step-by-step installation instructions in 3D. The wifi connection was slightly more tricky but wasn’t difficult. The cord is 24” long and the case acts as a holder for the cable (bonus). The downside is the lack of an official app to do a lot of the setup. Instead, there is a web gui that is associated with the charger’s ip address. This is where it becomes a little tricky for folks. The gui doesn’t offer much beyond getting it set up. There are not connection/charging stats to look at (if you are into that sort of thing).

It's performing well. The J1772 plug and the 11Kw charging speed charge my EV quickly. The 48 AMP charging capacity required a 60 amp breaker and a disconnect switch in my garage. We have the unit professionally installed and we also needed to increase our service from 100 amps to 200 amps. Expensive but worth it. This unit is less expensive than the JuicBox unit that our electrician normally provides.

The Tesla Wall Charger is a fantastic addition for any Tesla owner. Its sleek design, sturdy build quality, and rapid charging capabilities make it a standout home charging solution. With a maximum output of 48 amps, it offers an impressive charging rate, adding approximately 44 miles of range per hour to your Tesla vehicle. The smart connectivity and compatibility with the Tesla mobile app provide convenient control and monitoring options. While it comes at a premium price point, the Tesla Wall Charger delivers on its promise of speed and reliability, making it a worthy investment for those seeking a top-tier home charging experience.

Install was fairly easy after doing the proper research. Using 4AWG THHN-2 provides great connection with minimal heat. I’m charging my Hummer EV at max capacity without any issues whatsoever. Plus I can see all my charge stats via the Tesla app. This includes rate and total charge. Plus I could schedule down time via the charger instead of my car if I wanted to do so. I do it via my car though to keep things simple. If you have a J1772 vehicle, this charger is great!

First thing I want to say is this is a MUST have! We have multiple EVs besides Tesla and it works 100% on all even Taycan Porsche that they tried to upscale for a different home charger. I set to charge off peak hours. You won’t need a supercharger unless you’re taking a road trip!
