Thank you for the review, JMartinezO, and sorry to hear about the trouble with your Satellite E45W.

Since you say that it is always updating, I suspect this is a brand new system. New Windows computers will generally run Windows Update in the background and be somewhat busy downloading & installing updates. That's typically the case with brand new systems, and the downloading and updating will tax initial performance until the updating process is completed. That wouldn't be expected to last more than a couple of days (at the most) as long as you keep the computer turned on and connected to the Internet so it can continue updating overnight.

If you don't see appropriate performance for your configuration after all software updates are completed please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for troubleshooting help.

Thanks again for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

Thank you for the review, countymom, and sorry to hear that your Satellite E45W crashed.

Since crashes can indicate corruption of critical drivers or Windows itself, I recommend doing a Windows Reset to restore the Windows to its factory configuration. The Toshiba Forums community knowledge base article at toshiba.com/t5/System-Recovery-and-Recovery/How-To-Understanding-System-Restore-Refresh-Reset-and-Recovery/ta-p/342690 has more details and step-by-step instructions for that process.

If that doesn't resolve the problem please contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777 for further troubleshooting.

Thank you for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

Thank you for the review, halt, and sorry to hear that the TruBrite LED backlit display on your Satellite E45W-C4200X doesn't seem to be a good match for your preferences.

If you'd like to share any details about whatever software issues you're experiencing we'd be happy to make troubleshooting suggestions, or for further assistance you can also contact Toshiba support at 800-457-7777.

Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the trouble. Toshiba

    Definitely good for the price

I originally got this on sale for $450, then it went on sale the day after for $380. After calling best buy, we got the difference returned so we saved about $120 off the original price of $500 before taxes. Overall, this computer is a huge step up from my last toshiba satellite, and so far it seems to be working just fine. My last laptop had a bunch of problems (running slow, taking forever to open a program or even to switch tabs on chrome, always crashing, battery problems, speaker problems, the works), which made me wary of buying another toshiba and another from the same line of products, but it just worked with the price at the time. It is faster than my old one, has so many more functions, it's lighter and easier to move around, and is way less noisy from the hard drive and fan. Switching from tablet mode to desktop mode takes some practice, if you don't do it right it ends up facing the wrong way or not being able to use the cursor until you figure out how to switch it. My only concern is if the screen and hinges are sturdy, since I will be taking it back and forth from college to home a lot . I haven't been able to find a case made for this model, possibly because it is a best buy only offer, but other ones that fit a laptop of this size will probably do just fine.

    Fast, nice looking budget laptop

While it is about $100 dollars more then the Lenovo, HP, and Asus low end model, I think that extra cost is more then worth it. Most of it is made of aluminum so it has a nice slim look, and doesn't feel plasticky cheap like the budget ones I just mention. It also has a nice Led screen, keyboard feels responsive, and has a fast corei3 processor. I also like that it only has a 14 inch screen, which is not too bulky and perfect for using it in a college class or while traveling. The touch screen alone is really why you should get this laptop. Also you can expect 5 hours of battery time. Several cons: It's slight heavier then the other ones, the tablet mode is useless too big, the raised edges around the laptop can also be annoying at first since you can feel it rubbing your palms, making it feel ruff. Since most of us have our palms arching when we are typing, it shouldn't be too much of a factor.

Had to return this laptop. It would not connect to the wifi network. I'm not sure what the problem was but it would not connect after numerous attempts at reconfiguration. I wasn't impressed with the overall performance ether. Nevertheless, it went back and was traded-in on a more expensive Dell. Best Buy's delt with the problem professionally and made sure I was happy.

I bought this to use at home to surf the internet, social media, and bill pay. Pretty basic stuff. I have used it a handful of times and each time I try to get on it it's a hassle! It takes forever to load and now it won't load at all! Waste of my money and time.

I didn't need or want a gamer level 2 in 1. I use this in my small business and needed the touchscreen capability for digital signatures. Has plenty of memory and the processor speed is very good. No complaints on battery life either. I do wish it had a dvd drive. I have owned Toshiba's for over 15 years and only had one die on me and it was 5 years old. When I upgrade I usually give them away and most get retired. I currently own 6 that I use for business and personal. I won't buy a laptop that isn't a Toshiba.
