I bought a Vitamix Explorian E310 blender from my local Best Buy about 1.5 years ago, mostly for green and fruit smoothies I make 3-4 times a week. I chose this blender for the smaller container to save counter space and lower price. For a ~$400 blender, it never worked that well. Frozen fruit would get stuck under the blades and it danced all over the counter. It was incredibly loud – so loud that I had to use it in the garage instead of kitchen.
A few weeks ago, the Explorian motor was skipping and not grinding anything but the softest food. I packed it up and went back to Best Buy, thinking they would send it off for repairs. Instead, they gave me store credit for the entire amount. (Hint: the My Best Buy Total membership is well worth the annual fee, which increases the warranty period.)
I then purchased a Vitamix – Professional Grade Blender (Model 5200) for about $100 more than the Explorian. This machine is probably half the noise level and far more efficient. The taller container turns out to be better for making smoothies rather than the low-profile container.
So far, this blender has been great. As many reviews say, the Vitamix Model 5200 is the best choice for simple controls and strong performance. Wish I had paid closer attention to these reviews and purchased the 5200 to begin with.
