You see this? You want this. You know why? It's a Western Digital, start there. It's a Red Plus = Fast, reliable, NAS. It's the right price. AND It's the actual best model offered... It's the WD40EFPX model, meaning... - It's a CMR drive (not the cheaper, less reliable and slower SMR drive). - It has a 256mb buffer (not 128mb) - It's a PLUS series... Faster than Red, slower than Pro, still super fast for an HDD. - It's built to last... for servers, RAID and home use. Oh, and it's almost the same price as a Blue (entry level). Bottom line, for backup and daily access... GET THIS!!!

I recently purchased 4 of these to replace the old drives in my 7 yr. old EX4100 NAS configured to RAID 5. I hope the new ones hold up just as well. Had issues backing up loads of data and then uploading. I believe the bugs were not in the drives but issues with the other devices and wifi. WD support was excellent and attentive. Take pics of the serial numbers before installing.

Reliable NAS drive for home server

I bought the WD Red Plus 4TB for my home NAS running TrueNAS, and it’s been rock solid so far. The drive runs quietly, stays cool, and has been working 24/7 without any issues. I’m using it in a RAID setup, and the performance is great — good read/write speeds and all SMART values are healthy. If you’re building a home server or upgrading storage, this is a solid choice. I’m already planning to grab another one to expand my array

i have thousands of photo and many GB of files ,, that i need lots of space ,, so this fits in my dell 8940 slot as a just perfect just fit .. however, i am always wary of using very large disks to store TB of files and lose if it breaks ,, 4TB is just about the max size i will use .. so far with 1.5TB moved on it and working for the last 2 weeks .plus bought this on BB sale. and then got a lower price next day when it went on sale again with BB price match .. for a great deal from BestBuy

New drive with good write/read speed for the HDD. A perfect replacement for my old drive, using it with the external adapter. It is sad that a bigger drive was not in the store at that moment.

These are awesome drives. Solid performance, great reliability so far (been almost 2 years with no issues on all three that I bought), and good value (if you can get them on sale). I just use them in my PC, and they're surprisingly quiet. I highly recommend doing regular backups regardless of how good a drive seems on paper. But other than that I highly recommend these drives.

The WD Red Plus 4TB drive has been rock-solid in my setup. It runs quietly, stays cool under load, and performs exactly the way a NAS-class drive should. Read/write speeds are consistent, and it handles continuous operation without any issues. For storage, backups, or a RAID array, it’s proven to be dependable and responsive. Overall, a great value for anyone needing a reliable 4TB HDD that just works.

The WD Red Plus series hard drives for NAS are nice and reliable. I noticed that they are not as loud as the Seagate IronWolf hard drives. The price is good as well.

Good drive. Nothing exceptional, decent hard drive. I have been using a hard drive for a while now and I must say that it's a decent one. Although it's not that fast, it's reliable and gets the job done. It's not an enterprise-class hard drive, but for the money, it's not a bad choice. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase."

Had to populate my 6 bay NAS. Had to order but had no issues with the process, even got 'em at a sale price. Associate was very helpful. The drives themselves all worked out of the box, a bit slow but solid and stable. Have been running them for about a month and disk doctor shows all green. Would by again especially at sale pr ice good bang for buck.

WD NEVER FAILS!!! (knock on wood)

This is my umpteenth purchase of a WD drive. Never had a problem with any of them. This was an upgrade for a raid drive, same brand WD Red, which I purchased almost 7-8 years ago. Those drives are still running perfectly, however, they were only 2TB. I will use the old drives until they die, however I wont keep critical files on them. Maybe use as a back up of a back up of a back up. I do tend to be a digital hoarder, and maybe putting files i dont really need on aging equipment my give me the pust to let go once the device fails :). But i do follow the 3-2-1 rule for backing up my systems. I also do a "hardware refresher" every 5-7 years, just to take advantage of the new technology and refresh the lifecycle of my hardware especially those that store my data.

Bought this to replace a WD Enterprise drive that didn't even last 1 year. My NAS originally had WD Red drives and I got 5 years out of that drive so I went back to the WD Red after the WD Enterprise drive failing so soon. Since I was running the NAS in RAID 1 it immediately recognized the drive and started mirroring the data over to the new drive. I got 5 years out of the previous WD Red drive so I hope to get at least 5 years out of the WD Red Plus drive.
