Most antivirus companies are subscription based in multiple year packages. We offer ours as a promotion to familiarize customers with the value of the product before actually having to buy it. We would advise installing it and checking it out.

Webroot should not have an effect on the performance of your Mac unless it is not working properly.
Mac systems DO get viruses. There have been mentions of this lately in the news and we would advise doing some research before making that determination.
I would advise uninstalling and reinstalling the product to see if the slow performance issue persists, and if it does, contact our support team so they can take a look at what is going on.

Did you try to uninstall and reinstall Webroot to see if the issue persisted?

Protection slows computer

It takes forever to open browser and check email. Might be the settings but I can no longer open attachments on any email. It won't let me open the black Friday email sent from Best Buy!! Going back soon.
