At First glance the Litter robot appears to be a lot bigger than a traditional litter box, however it's footprint is actually around the same size as any traditional box. The only difference is the height. Other than that the Litter Robot will fit in any area you currently have for your old litter box. There is very little setup once everything is removed from the box. There is an optional clip on "fence" that snaps into the lower opening of the litter box. The "fence" is just a small barrier that forces the cats to more so climb out of the box, instead of just walking straight out possibly dragging litter along the way. The fence helps to keep the litter in the robot, by adding that extra barrier. Inside the packaging is a small pamphlet that instructs you on how to download their app. All instruction on setting up the box are step-by-step thru the app. It doesn't come with an actual instruction booklet, but there is a downloadable manual available thru the website. The first thing it's going to want to do is connect to your phone and then the internet. There is no need to go into your phone's settings to connect directly to the robot, just download the app and it does it all for you. There are four status bar lights that glow different colors to help with setup and identify problems. Refer to your app or the included pamphlet to reference what the different colors mean. Whiskers is concerned with your cat's safety which is why it continuously analyzes 4 different zones to identify when a cat or anything else is inside the litter box. The sensors are located in upper rim of the litter box. If the sensors are tripped or blocked in anyway the litterbox will not start any of the cycles. Shortly after your pet has exited the litter robot it will start the cleaning cycle. You can set the delay between the exit and the start of the cycle to any of the available times (3,7,15,25 or 30 minutes). When the cycles run it is very quiet. A cleaning cycle last under 2minutes (1:40 to be exact) Our cats took to it right away. Both cats sat & watched while setting the litter robot up. Once it was connected and we added the litter, they hopped in for a test run. Cats instinctively look for areas in which they can bury their waste to help mask their presence to other predators. So sand, loose gravel and litter are perfect for their needs, and will always be their first choice for going potty. The interior of the litter robot seems a little small, but we have two cats, one is almost 12lbs and the other is around 20lbs and neither one of them had any issues using the litter robot. The unit also tracks litter supply and waste levels in real time, and lets you know when each area needs attention. Whisker's does sell their own brand of litter, however this can be used with any CLUMPING litter. You can track all activities thru the app. It will show you usage times and your cat's weight. It lets you know when the box is in use and when a cleaning cycle is starting/ending. It will even send a notification to your phone once a cycle has been completed. Whiskers is planning an update later in the year which will give the litter box Individual cat recognition, so it will be easier to identify each of your cat's routines. The litter robot came with a roll of refill bags for the waste bin & a canister of cleaning wipes. It also came with a package of Odor Trap packs. These packs can go in the waste bin or if your robot came with a filter, it would go in the filter pod. (My unit did not come with a filter.) Our unit came with a Litter Trap mat. It’s good for containing and trapping any littler that makes it way out with your cat, so less litter makes it into other areas of the house. After a few days of use it I noticed that I was not getting any notifications to my phone. I checked the app & saw there was a firmware update. I was able to run the update, even though I was not home near the robot. After the update ran, the app said my robot was no longer connected. I was a little annoyed cuz that I thought I would have to wait another few hours to get home & reconnect, but it reconnected on it's own. I love the convenience of it. I no longer have to scoop out the litter box by hand & have not had to deal with any odors since using the robot. I used it the first few days without using the odor traps, to see how well it blocks odors on its own. While the odor traps do have a nice, citrusy smell to it, I would not deem them necessary for usage. Everything drops down into the waste bin & when it comes time to empty it, you just remove & tie off the bag. It’s like a diaper genie for kitties.

Hands down the best invention for cat owners

We are a multi-cat household, meaning prior to a few weeks ago, we had 2 jumbo litter boxes that had to be scooped three times a week and I was buying premium clumping litter in bulk. Since setting up the Whisker Litter-Robot 4, our lives have changed, no more scooping, reduced litter usage, and my husband and I had to give up our game of taking small pleasure in reminding the other one that it was their turn to scoop the boxes. In the box is the litter robot, power cord, and if you got the bundle it also came with a litter trapping mat, extra bags, cleaning wipes, and deodorizer packs. We have a total of five cats, a 15 year old 12 lb senior, a 11 year old 9 lb adult, a 3 year old 7 lb tripod, and 2 x 3.5 lb kittens. I was concerned that not everyone would be able to make the adjustment to an automatic litter box, thankfully they all proved me wrong. As far as setup goes, I found that the space between the toilet and shower in my upstairs bathroom was exactly perfect to place this Litter-Robot in. It also helps that this was where I had one of the litter boxes placed prior. I did have to run a short extension cord from the outlet to the plug, but otherwise, setup was straight forward. First you fill the robot with litter, keeping it inside the circle that is visible on the interior lining. It's not a big deal if you go over, and you'll know if you've added too much, when it dumps half of it in waste drawer on the first rotation. I am used to filling litter boxes deep, so I did add too much the first time. Not a big deal, after the first cycle, take the waste drawer, dump the excess back into the clean litter bag, and you're good to go. Once litter is added, turn on the robot, it will run through its first cleaning cycle. While doing this I installed the app and got ready to pair. This is my only complaint about the entire thing, the setup process can be a pain. Once the app was installed I had to scan the QR code on the back of the robot, which meant that I had to turn on a flashlight and contort to get to the back of the box since I had already placed the robot near the wall. No big deal, I scanned the code and then connected to wifi, unfortunately entering the wrong wifi password. Instead of having the ability to go back and edit the password, I had to start the process all over again, including wedging myself over the toilet to grab the QR code. This time I got the wifi password correct and was able to move on to the next phase. Overall a minor issue, but would love for future users not to have to start from scratch if they don't get setup process right the first time. After setup, you now do nothing. No really, absolutely no scooping, intervention, or visually inspecting the amount of clean litter or how full the waste drawer is. The app has three tabs, status, history, and controls. In the status tab, the app monitors the amount of litter in the robot, how full the waste drawer is, and gives activity history of "cat detected", "clean cycle in progress" and "clean cycle complete". The app will monitor your cat's weight and list it in the status history. The app also displays the last weight measured on the "SmartScale" readout (see photo). The history tab shows a graph of the week and month usage, number of cleaning cycles, and average trends. From this tab you can also download history, super helpful when you are troubleshooting health issues, as we are with our senior cat. The controls tab allows you to turn power on / off, panel lockout (child lock), lights (on, off, auto), and sleep mode. You can also trigger a manual cycle, set the cycle delay time (3, 7, 15, 25, and 30 min), and replace the filter (cycles the box to allow for filter replacement). There is also a settings option which allows you to edit the name of your Litter-Robot, check wifi status, check / update firmware, and reset to factory settings. In addition to the app, the Litter-Robot has LED indicator status on the upper right side of the housing, visible from across the room. Beside the LED indicator are physical buttons that control power, cycle, reset, empty, and connect (wifi). There is a quick refence guide that shows what each of the LED colors means, and allows you to check the status quickly versus opening the box to visually inspect. To set up for the best chance of success I recommend reading the guide that comes with it. I put the litter robot where one of the old litter boxes used to sit, removed that box, and left the other manual scoop box where it normally was. Basically I went from two manual scoop boxes down to the Litter-Robot and one manual scoop box in the same footprint as before. Over the course of the next week, I keep cleaning the manual box, but reduced the amount of litter every two days, so eventually there was barely any left. As the cats found less litter to use, they naturally transitioned to the Litter-Robot, and by the end of a six day period, all cats had transitioned to the Litter-Robot. I had my doubts about the senior and the kittens, as they all love deep litter to throw everywhere, but they swapped without issue, and the design keeps in a LOT more litter than the manual boxes did. One other note is that I set the cycle at 15 minutes, which is recommended for a multi-cat household. The cycle noise is very quiet, but can also be put on "sleep" mode if near a bedroom. As far as clean up, the app tells me when the waste drawer is full, I pull out the old bag (no risk of coming in contact with the litter) and place a new one in. There is nothing convoluted about the bag placement, easy enough I have my teens helping out now, and the replacement bags are easy to find online to purchase more. A few things that surprised me: I use less litter, there is less smell than the manual scoop boxes and I'm not even using the deodorizer that came with it, I don't have to clean the insides often. I feared I'd find smeared messes all over the inside, but no, the inside stays very clean and dry, the photo attached shows the box after a week of use and I haven't had to clean it. I can't say enough great things about this Litter-Robot, it's made the cat parent part of life so much easier. There are no specially designed components to buy, you don't need any special litter, and honestly it is a very easy transition from manual scooping to the robot. I recommend for anyone, new cat owners and those of us who have had cats forever. Even my old guy that is resistant to change took to it quickly.

Cat litter is gross. No matter how neat the cat, how odor absorbing the littler, or how many mats are laid out, litter is gross. I love my cat. Adore him. I have said I’ll never have another one solely because of litter. We have had a top entry box before, and that was as good as we could get it. But we still had to scoop and it still stinks up wherever it is. Enter Litter Robot 4. Yes, it looks like the Death Star, but aside from being tall, it’s about the same size as a regular litter box. The space on ground is nearly identical. So this actually is a one to one replacement size-wise. It also holds exactly the same amount of litter when you follow the instructions and fill to the line inside. There is nearly no physical setup!! Take the included (not required!) accessories and power cable out of the box, and lift the Robot out. It’s completely plug and play. The first bag is even already installed in the waste drawer. Simply lay out the included mat, set the Robot on it, add litter to fill line, and plug it in. The website has great tutorials and tips for getting cats to use the box. We left our old box out a couple days as advised, didn’t clean it, and kitty eventually abandoned it for the new one. There are no proprietary bags or litter products required!! Any clumping litter will work and you can use regular garbage bags. The Whisker app lets you know when the bin is full, and it weighs your cat(s), can cycle a cleaning remotely, etc. You do not need the app or Wi-Fi to get the benefit of this machine. It’s amazing even if you prefer it not be “smart” and connected. But connecting is simple and easy to use as well. This is a pricey unit, but the innovation and quality—not to mention NO MORE SCOOPING makes it an easily justifiable spend. I highly recommend!

The Whisker Litter-Robot 4 ... what a marvel! Setup was easy - after finally getting it out of the well-packaged box (with only one set of hands this was a slight challenge). The Quick Start User Guide was helpful. However, if you scan the QR code, there is an informative video you can watch, which explains key details step-by-step. And yes, there is an app, and it is awesome! My Whisker Litter-Robot 4 came with the 'core accessories bundle' which included a pouch of OdorTrap Packs that you place inside the waste litter drawer, cleaner wipes for the inside and outside of the robot, a roll of waste drawer liner bags, along with the litter trap mat. The mat is really heavy duty, and seems to do a good job of trapping what little bit of kitty litter that gets tracked out by my cats. I was quite impressed by that. I would also suggest dust-free litter, cause it clumps well. The Litter-Robot is not as heavy as it looks. The controls are easy to use and to understand. Even connecting it to the app on my phone was easy; once my WiFi connection (user error) was fixed and the Litter-Robot could fully connect. The app itself is fun to use. In the app you can upload a picture and create a profile for each of your feline friends. You can also shop for additional supplies. The Whisker app will let you know if the litter level is "Optimal," how full the waste drawer is, and gives you an overview of past cleaning cycles. Plus, the app records the weight of your cat whenever they use it. I enjoy checking the 'Recent Activity History' to see how often my cats use the "robot litter box." Yes, the Whisker Litter-Robot makes a sound when scooping, but it really is "whisper quiet." My cats were initially sceptical, but at least the younger one adapted rather quickly and is using it frequently. The robot is roomy enough for small to medium cats - my younger cat weighs just under 3 lbs, and my older cat is slightly bigger but has not used it yet (as far as I know), therefore I am uncertain about his weight. Once my cat does her business, the Robot goes through its cleaning cycle after 7 minutes; which is something you can adjust in the app from 3-30 minutes. The used litter gets scooped and deposited underneath in the drawer for easy clean-up as it's collected in disposable liners (or you can use regular trash bags of appropriate size to fit). All in all, I am very pleased with this Whisker Litter-Robot 4, and if it was not so costly, I would get another one.

The Litter-Robot has been a game-changer for our three cat household! I was nervous that my senior cats may take some time to adapt, but within 30 minutes of setting it up, my oldest girl (and the one I was most worried about) hopped right in, used it, and went on her way. It's easy to set-up, clean, and change out each week. We've been able to cut back significantly on litter and even when the waste drawer is full, our house still doesn't smell. The Litter Robot also makes traveling so much easier for our pet sitters, since they don't have to worry about dealing with the litter box. We're already planning to get a second one in the coming months to replace our home's second litter box. I recently had an issue where the Robot disconnected from the Whisker app and nothing I did could get it back online. It did continue to cycle as expected, but when opening the app, it tried to get me to set-up a new Robot. I even tried following these steps (which included Robot set-up and adding all my cat profiles back) but instead of completing set-up, it would take me back to the first step. I tried everything in the manual and steps I found online with no luck before reaching out to support. Overnight, it reconnected itself and was working normally. Support got back to me to, but gave me all the same steps that were in the manual, which was annoying since I had explained they didn't work. Not that big of a deal since it fixed itself, but this seems like something that should be resolvable vs the wait and see approach.

This is my second unit. We needed a cat box for both stories of our home. Since this notifies us when it is full, we don’t have to pay any attention to it (WiFi connection). Also saves money on litter since only the litter sticking to the waste is lost. I figure a 5 year break even point for both boxes. No dumping a whole cat box just to remove the smell. No smell. No dust. Just a small bag to lift out of the sealed collection box. Also, after each cycle, a smooth surface for the cat to admire. I put a camera on the upstairs box to match the cat weight to the cat and discovered that one cat will use the box, then sit and watch it rotate to dump the waste. Cat TV.

The Whisker Litter-Robot 4 Smart App-Controlled Self-Cleaning Litter Box Core Accessories Bundle has been a huge help in our home. I have 3 indoor cats and 3 outdoor cats (who use it when they’re inside), so it gets used a lot—and it keeps up really well. It’s quiet, easy to empty, and the app notifications make maintenance simple. Since it’s in our living room, there is a slight smell right after a cat uses it before the cycle runs and the waste solidifies, but once it cycles, the odor is much better controlled than a traditional litter box. Overall, it has dramatically reduced scooping and daily hassle. Great investment for a multi-cat household.

I can’t say enough good things about the Litter-Robot 4! It has completely changed the way I take care of my cats. No more scooping, no more smell, and my house feels fresher and cleaner than ever. The waste drawer is easy to empty, the design is sleek, and it’s surprisingly quiet when cycling. My cats took to it quickly, and now I don’t even have to think twice about their litter box—it’s always fresh and ready. The app is a great bonus too, letting me keep track of their habits and know exactly when the drawer needs changing. Yes, it’s an investment, but for the convenience, cleanliness, and peace of mind, it’s 100% worth it. I honestly can’t imagine going back to a regular litter box. If you’re on the fence—just do it. You and your cats will be so much happier!

I struggled with this for a while believing there was no way I would spend this much money on a litter box. However, every other cheaper model from other companies have mixed reviews. The only bad thing I can say about this one is that it may require being reconnected every so often but that is probably an issue with my router and wi-fi. It works, my two cats took to it almost immediately and it makes clean up a breeze. Wonderful. Worth every penny.

Overall does what it says. I have two Maine Coon kittens that are almost 5 months old. The larger one, the male, uses it no problem. And it’s large enough it will be just fine as he grows. The only problem I have had so far is at times the urine clumps don’t always dump. They stay stuck to the liner and need to be knocked loose with a scoop. As for odor. There is no order other than the immediate after use. Once it cycles after the cat has jumped out there are no smells. Ease of emptying the used litter clumps is as simple as it shows. Pull open, grab bag, and throw out. I do think however that the price is super expensive for it. Will determine with time if it was worth it. Depending on how long it last.

      Hi Dawn,
Thanks for taking the time to share you experience with your Litter-Robot! Some Litter-Robot users do have an issue with clumps sticking to the liner. If you're having the issue every couple of days, maybe it's something more environmental: Does it tend to build up and then, by day 2-3, stick and clump? Or is the clump not present until then?

You could try mixing a "crystal" or silica gel-based litter with your traditional litter. This might help absorb any excess liquids. If you add them, please make certain they are small enough to pass through the sifting screen in the globe.

Sometimes, we find that customers experiencing issues with clumps sticking to the liner are using a lightweight or alternative litter. These litters tend to clump slower, leaving sticky, sometimes gummy messes that can interfere with the sifting process. Excess moisture build-up can also lead to significant odor. If you are not already, we recommend using a standard clay clumping litter, as it tends to clump hard, sift easily, and absorb odor.

I was hesitant to buy this because of the high price tag. We have neighbors that own the older model and love it. We went ahead and took advantage of the Black Friday sale and Best Buy’s easy payment options. No regrets!! This is a must have for any cat owner. We have 3 cats and this litter robot is absolutely worth every penny. Not having to scoop litter is priceless. We have owned other fancy litter boxes- even the toilet one, and this is by far the best. No special litter to buy. No expensive soap cartridges. If you’re thinking about getting it, do it! One of our cats is 17lbs and he fits in this just fine. Our cats took right to it. Would buy again!

I know what youre thinking. “Id rather scoop a litterbox than ever spend $800 on a LITTERBOX!” Well your be right but also wrong. It is a practical purchase but it isnt for everyone seeing how for many $800 can be a house payment, but if you really are tired of scooping a litterbox or it constantly stinks up the house then you should go for it (or at least finance it to afford it). Its very simple to set up almost ready out of the box. I can no longer smell the waste even when you’re close to it. On the plus side it also looks aesthetically pleasing.

I have multiple cats and I was going through a lot of litter and bags and time scooping. Working so much, the boxes sometimes got a little neglected and I needed a way to rectify that. This machine is so handy and helpful. It wastes less litter since the mess doesn't sit there for ages seeping out into a bigger and bigger chunk. The automatic shifting can be set to just a few minutes to I believe half an hour. It connects to an app that you can control the time it sifts, you can set up pet profiles and it tracks your cats weight and usage, it lets you know when the litter level is low or when the litter box underneath needs to be emptied. Be warned not all cats will like this robot so keep a regular box around just in case. One of my 4 cats absolutely refuses to step inside so I keep a box right next to it for her. I scoop that box right into the robot so I don't have to waste extra bags and I only have to switch out the main bag once a week or so. My friend has less cats than me and can go about 3 weeks before needing to empty the litter box.

After using the Litter-Robot 4 for several months, I can confidently say it’s a significant upgrade from traditional litter boxes and even earlier Litter-Robot models. The most immediate benefit is the convenience-no more daily scooping. Instead, I just empty the waste drawer about once a week, which is a huge time-saver and keeps my home smelling fresher. One of the standout features is the improved odor control. The waste drawer’s design, combined with a carbon filter positioned above it, does a great job at trapping smells. I also appreciate that the trash bag wraps around the outside of the drawer, making it easier to install and helping prevent litter from getting stuck on the sides. The app integration is another highlight: it reliably notifies me when the drawer is full, lets me monitor my cats’ litter box usage, and even tracks their weight-a surprisingly useful feature for keeping tabs on their health. The Litter-Robot 4 is noticeably quieter than the previous model, which is great for a peaceful home environment. Cleaning the unit is a bit easier thanks to a new handle on the globe, though deep cleaning is still somewhat awkward and time-consuming, as you have to disassemble the globe and handle a bulky part. Regular maintenance, like monthly deep cleans and weekly spot checks, is still necessary to keep things running smoothly and odor-free. On the downside, the Litter-Robot 4 is expensive, and the interior space may feel cramped for larger cats. While it’s more compact on the outside, it still takes up a fair amount of floor space. Some users have reported occasional sensor glitches or cycling errors, but I found the app and hardware to be reliable in daily use. Overall, I’m impressed by how much easier the Litter-Robot 4 has made cat care. It’s not perfect-regular cleaning is still required, and the price is steep-but for the convenience, odor control, and tech features, it’s been worth the investment for my household.

I waited almost two months before writing this review. I wanted to make sure it worked. I have seen a number of other reviews where the buyer was frustrated. Not me. Works as advertised. Took a little bit of learning on my part, but it was worth it. Great product. No muss, no fuss, no smell, no more digging out nuggets. Yes, it is pricy. But it is worth it.

Was hesitant because of the price, but bought a cheaper automatic litter box and that’s where I lost the money! Super easy set up. No smell. Trying different litters currently to find the one with the least amount of dust. But that shouldn’t hold you back. Has made my life much easier. My cat adjusted to it the same day and prefers it over his other one.

This cat litter box more than lived up to its billing as a fantastic litter box not only for my cat Toby but also for myself as his owner. No more bending down to scoop or having to smell the order coming out of his litter box was more than worth the purchase price. With it’s streamlined design and almost non existent noise level when cleaning and its easy operation I have not only cut substantially cut down my cleaning time but also saved a good bit of money with using less litter

I’ve had the litter box for about 3 weeks. I have 2 cats and both of them use the litter box. I love that I don’t have to scoop and I can monitor how often they use the litter box even when I’m traveling. The Litter Robot is easy to set up and use. I followed the instructions provided and my cats started to use the Litter Robot instead of their old litter box in the second week of use. For the first week, I manually cycled the litter box. For the past 2 weeks, the Litter Robot has been set to cycle 30 minutes after the cat is detected. I shortened the wait time today to 25 minutes and removed the old litter box. Although the instructions recommend a 15 minute delay with multiple cats, I’m still working out the litter clumping speed. I use Tidy Cats Lightweight with Glade which seems to clump slower than I expected. I also added Dr. Elsey’s Cat Attract to the litter to encourage the cats to use the Litter Robot.
