My first experience with a TCL TV has been very positive, which is why I’m giving it four stars. The biggest strengths are the picture quality, extremely easy setup, and the fact that I was able to go from opening the box to watching content in a matter of minutes. The one major reason I’m holding back that fifth star is the physical build quality. The TV feels somewhat flimsy, particularly compared with what I would expect from a higher-end television featuring Mini-LED technology. For example, when I mounted the plastic feet on the screen (my other sets have metal feet), they are not parallel to each other. The feet feel very light, almost delicate. The setup was exceptionally quick and straightforward. I really did not need to spend much time reading the instructions. Once the TV was connected, I was watching content almost immediately. For my initial test, I selected Top Gun, since it provides plenty of opportunities to evaluate picture quality, including bright outdoor scenes, aircraft, sky, and fast-moving action. From this quick test, I could see that the picture appeared better than what I get from my other televisions. The image seemed brighter, more detailed, and more vibrant, particularly in scenes with strong contrast. While I have not yet had an opportunity to conduct a detailed side-by-side comparison using a variety of 4K HDR content, my first impression is that the Mini-LED technology is doing what it is supposed to do in terms of contrast. Since this is a Fire TV, connecting it to my Amazon account was straightforward, and that immediately brought many of the Amazon ecosystem features into the television. I didn't have to create another separate account or start from scratch with apps and services as with other hardware. My Amazon-related content and settings were readily available, and the interface provides convenient access to streaming services, apps, and other Fire TV features. For someone who already uses Amazon regularly, this integration makes the TV feel more like an extension of an existing entertainment ecosystem rather than a completely separate device that has to be configured from the ground up. The remote control is nothing particularly special, but I'm not sure how important that is anymore. It performs its basic functions adequately, and the inclusion of voice commands is arguably more useful than having a remote packed with buttons. The biggest disappointment is the physical construction. The TV looks good once it is set up, but the overall build feels somewhat lightweight and flimsy. That doesn't affect the picture quality or day-to-day operation, but it does detract from the perception of quality. Given the impressive Mini-LED picture performance, I would have preferred a more substantial-feeling chassis and construction. This is the primary reason I am giving the TV four stars rather than five. Sound quality is another area where I would describe the TCL as adequate rather than impressive. The built-in speakers are perfectly acceptable for ordinary television viewing, but the sound lacks the depth and richness that would complement the excellent picture. For movies and other content where sound is important, I think this TV would benefit significantly from a soundbar or other external audio system. That's been my experience with modern lightweight televisions. Overall, I think this is a very good television. The setup is exceptionally easy, the Fire TV/Amazon integration is convenient, and most importantly, the Mini-LED picture quality appears to be a meaningful step up from my other TVs. The build quality and average sound keep it from being a five-star product in my opinion, but the excellent picture and ease of use make it a television I am very happy to have.

I really love this TCL 55" M8LF Series 4K UHD HDR Mini LED Smart TV with Fire TV. Right out of the box, setup was easy. I didn’t mount it, so I installed the legs instead, which required just two screws per side. Once attached, I was able to place it on a dresser without any issues. The on-screen setup was simple, and connecting it to my Amazon account was quick and convenient. I scanned a QR code, and most of the setup was completed on my phone. Overall, setup took about five minutes. I added the Spectrum TV app and was immediately connected. The app runs really fast and smoothly on this TV—much faster than on my previous one. The picture quality is stunning. Even with sunlight coming in, the colors stayed vivid, bright, and crisp. The remote feels good in the hand and works very well. When I started watching, closed captioning was turned on by default. I couldn’t immediately figure out how to turn it off, so I pressed the microphone button and said, “Closed Caption Off,” which worked perfectly. There are plenty of HDMI ports—four in total. I also played a video game on it, and the quality was spectacular, with no lag at all. Alexa is included, which is a nice bonus. I can’t say enough positive things about this TV. It’s my first TCL TV, and so far, I’m very impressed.

I've owned quite a few TVs over the years, ranging from budget models to more expensive premium brands, and I can honestly say that the TCL 55" M8LF Series Mini LED Fire TV has exceeded my expectations in almost every way. After spending several days watching movies, sports, and gaming on it, I'm genuinely impressed with the performance TCL has packed into this TV. The combination of Mini LED technology, 4K resolution, and the 144Hz refresh rate makes it feel much more expensive than its price point. The first thing that stood out to me was the picture quality. The Mini LED backlighting with local dimming produces deep blacks and excellent contrast, making dark scenes look rich and detailed without appearing washed out. Bright scenes really pop as well, thanks to the high brightness capability. Whether I was streaming Dolby Vision content or watching standard cable programming, colors looked vibrant and realistic, and the overall image quality was sharp and immersive. Movie nights have become a completely different experience. The TV supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG, and you can really see the difference when watching high-quality HDR content. Details in shadows are easy to see, highlights are bright without being overpowering, and the picture maintains excellent clarity throughout. Even family members who normally don't notice TV upgrades immediately commented on how much better everything looked. Gaming is where this TV really shines. The native 144Hz refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 connectivity, Auto Low Latency Mode, and Game Accelerator features make gameplay feel incredibly smooth and responsive. Fast-paced games look fantastic, with very little blur during motion, and the Game Bar makes it easy to adjust settings without interrupting gameplay. If you're a console gamer or PC gamer looking for a large-screen display, this TV delivers a premium gaming experience at a very reasonable price. I was also pleasantly surprised by the audio quality. While I eventually plan to add a soundbar, the built-in speakers sound much better than expected. The Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X support create a wider, fuller soundstage than most TVs in this category. Dialogue is clear, effects have impact, and casual viewers may not even feel the need for external speakers right away. The Fire TV interface has been easy to use and responsive. Setting everything up took only a few minutes, and having Alexa built in is extremely convenient. I can launch apps, search for movies, adjust volume, and control compatible smart home devices using voice commands. The inclusion of Apple AirPlay 2 and Google Cast support is also a huge plus, making it easy for everyone in the family to share content from their phones and tablets. Another feature I appreciate is the connectivity. With four HDMI ports, including HDMI 2.1 support and eARC, I have enough room for my gaming console, streaming device, sound system, and additional accessories without constantly swapping cables. This may seem like a small thing, but it makes everyday use much more convenient. Overall, TCL has created a fantastic TV that delivers premium-level features without the premium-level price tag. The picture is bright and detailed, gaming performance is outstanding, the smart features work well, and the overall user experience has been excellent. For anyone looking for a 55-inch TV that excels at movies, sports, streaming, and gaming, I highly recommend the TCL M8LF Series. It offers tremendous value and has easily earned a 5-star rating from me. Highly recommended!

I believe the first time I had a Fire TV was about 10 years ago. I considered these types of TV’s were for the very basic core consumer who wants to stream from Amazon and doesn’t care about screen technology or any gaming features whatsoever. Admittedly, I considered these types of televisions largely unchanged over the years. $500 for a 55” TV is usually the selling point right there. TCL did not stop there and this is where they raised the bar for what I thought of what a basic TV is. By and large I had a good experience with the TV. The set up of the TV was very straightforward and painless. After setting everything up on the software side, I streamed a movie and played some video games on it with a bluetooth headset. Aside from a questionable series name, the TCL M8LF performed admirably the entire time. The transitions from menu to movie were pretty fast and even streaming on the 2.4mhz channel, I had no issue loading it up and starting right away. The only pain and aggravation I had were the menus. I was hoping the menus were going to be more streamlined and intuitive than previous experiences I have had. Answer: no. Aside from what I feel are 2 separate settings for practically the same function: sound. I was initially infuriated only because I kept thinking the BT settings had to be in the audio section for the TV. I was right and wrong. There is a specific setting in the settings screen but only on the home pages’ that have BT settings at all. I would like to point out that for a 55” television, the weight did not make the TV impossible to move around. I had help carrying it and it felt like maybe 15lbs. I looked it up and showed 23lbs, so I was close since I had help carrying it in the room. Also the thickness of the TV is impressively thin at 2.74”. While this TV doesn’t have every single bell and whistle, it doesn’t need it, nor does the price warrant them. I would recommend this TV to most people, especially if the requirements are not steep and a low budget. If you play video games, there is a 144hz refresh for the screen plus other gaming settings with the Game Accelerator 288 & ALLM. Other features include HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos audio support to make everything look and sound better. Very impressive for the price, especially for a gaming type TV. This TV to me is not a gaming set. The available settings tell another story, so maybe it is one in disguise on the cheap? Either way, shows that TCL is doing a good job of providing for both gamers and streamers for digital content.

Hello friends and welcome to my review of the new for 26 TCL 55" class M8LF mini LED smart TV. I know every product now needs a title a mile long so from here on this will be called the TCL 55". First off the TV was packaged very well and arrived without any damage. The TCL 55 is not very heavy and I was able to pull it out of the box and install the feet by myself. If you are a small person you might need some help. The next thing I want to talk about is the sign on for this TV. It is mandatory that you have an amazon account to use this TV. It will not let you do anything like download free apps or anything else if you do not sign in. The only thing thats good about this issue is you can make up a free fake account and use the TV. But why would you do that to people TCL? Please remove this inconvenience TCL. From here on the rest of my review will be really positive. I really like the picture quality of this TV. The mini LED technology in this unit is absolutely fantastic. The blacks are nice and dark and clean with no ghosting. The colors are vibrant and sharp. The picture quality has gone up so much in the last few years with this technology. I'm very impressed with the sharp pictures from almost every source. And with bright sunlight streaming in my windows I can view this new TV just fine. If you have a bright room in your home and you still want a great TV picture then this one is worth looking into. For the price I don't think I could find a better deal, and get the picture quality i"m after. The 55" size is great for most rooms not to big and not too small and easy for most folks to hang on the wall. There is only one more thing to talk about and thats the speakers. As with most new TV's in the budget category this TV sounds ok. It's not a great sound but it will get you by. I would suggest that you pick up a sound bar with a separate sub-woofer. That would put this unit over the top for most people and most everyone would like it. Finally would I recommend this to a friend? You bet it is a great unit with a fantastic picture.

I've owned a lot of TVs over the years (I mean… it’s 2026, who hasn’t?) BUT after comparing what was available in this class, I have to say, the TCL M8LF stacks up. It packs a punch with the features and picture quality that aren’t common at this price point. Usually you have to go up a class at least, so the value is there. The first thing that stood out was the picture. Blacks are deep, colors are vibrant without looking oversaturated, and HDR content pops. Everything looks sharp and bright, even sports and other live content. The Mini LED backlighting definitely makes a noticeable difference compared to a standard LED TV. Ok, now what is maybe a more controversial topic, well kind of. I've seen some people hesitate when they see Fire TV, and I get it, you like something else, you’re used to it. And maybe I’m biased but that's actually one of the reasons I like this model. I personally use and like Fire TV, so this was an easy decision for me. The interface is familiar, all of the streaming apps I use are there, and everything has been fast and responsive. If you're already in the Amazon ecosystem, you'll probably feel right at home. And if you’re not, it’s not exactly hard to learn. Setup was simple, the TV feels well built (solid but can be lifted by one person), and TCL continues to prove that you don't have to go premium (in cost) to get a premium-looking picture. Unless you're shopping for a top-of-the-line flagship model, I think this TV checks all the boxes for what most people are looking for. It’s very clean, not a lot of frame, just screen. If you're in the market for a new 55-inch TV and want outstanding performance without overspending, I highly recommend the TCL M8LF. It delivers far more than I expected and it was an easy five stars from me.

I recently took delivery of the TCL - 55" M8LF Series 4K UHD HDR Mini LED Smart TV with Fire TV, and I want to share some things now that I’ve used the TV a few days. The TCL came well-packaged with grip-holds that you can punch out at each end of the box. This made it extremely easy to move around, especially for two people. The TV is very light weight. Upon setup (easy), the first thing we noticed was how bright and crisp the display was. TCL’s HDR MiniLED screen has extremely deep blacks and vibrant colors — wonderful contrast. Even though they’re not side-by-side, I would say that this screen’s deep blacks rival OLED screens that I’ve seen recently, and certainly a lot less expensive. We had fun playing some of the high-def samples that you can find on YouTube. The Fire TV operating system is awesome! If I want, I can now use my phone as an alternate remote. The user interface is very customizable, making it a breeze to set up this TV to fit your own environment. The main downfall for my listening pleasure is the sound output from TCL’s built-in speaker system. As with most TVs nowadays, you’ll benefit highly from a separate sound system. I’m not even going to ding them a star for this, it’s so common. Once you’ve got that in place, you’re off to the movies!

Decided to give the technology a try. I have an OLED TV and an older LED TV as the two TVs that get the most viewing time in the house. The older LED is about a 45” and thought it’d be nicer to have something larger. Though larger, this does seem to be lighter overall than the LED TV. I haven’t weighed it, just a perception. The picture quality is great. I can easily distinguish different levels of black while still experiencing some nice dark black levels in general. There doesn’t appear to be any significant halo effect from backlight which is good. Most of my viewing is done in a room that doesn’t get direct sunlight, so this doesn’t have to be a super bright TV. For my purposes, the colors look great and viewing is not an issue. I can’t speak to how this might appear in a brighter room or with glare. There’s sufficient connectivity with 4-HDMI and two USB-A ports (1-2.0 and 1-3.0). A USB-C would have been nice. It’s probably only a matter of time before more auxiliary devices move to that so USB-C to USB-C operability would be nice. The ports are easily accessible from the right side of the TV and side input. So not facing the wall that would interfere with a low profile install against a wall. I’m not a fan of the FireTV interface. It seems too cumbersome. To enter numbers for example, you have a position on the direction pad assigned to a number. That means you get 0-4. You want 5-9, you have to press another button on the remote to basically reassign the numbers. I number pad would be nicer…either on the screen or on the remote. So if you had parental lock on and you used a code with digits that cover 0-9, enter the code because super annoying. To the point I turned off parental lock. Now, you could just pick a code that only uses 0-4 or 5-9, but why…why make it harder than necessary. Another gripe is apps. I went to the app store looking for the regulars. Didn’t see them. I tried to search of them, they didn’t come up. If you displayed “all” apps, you don’t get all apps. I was starting to think that Amazon somehow didn’t have access to them. It wasn’t until I went to one of the preinstalled apps and then saw the others I was looking for as recommended apps. Reality is, I’m probably going to just plug in a Roku stick and let that be the interface I use. Annoying because part of upgrading the LED I had was because it was a “Smart” tv from the early days so I had an AppleTV, Roku and my service box. I was hoping to nix all of those, but since I’m not a fan of the FireTV interface, I’m still bound to at least one auxiliary device. Sound is okay. It’s not great. Not hollow like an old paper cone speaker tv, but movies/music etc will not be the most fulfilling experience. I also experimented with this as an external monitor for my laptop. It’s a nice size that if you have the desk space and can set it back for enough, doing a 4-way segmented desktop could be a nice option for someone looking for more computing display real estate. Generally speaking, picture quality is great and that will make it worth hanging on to despite the FireTV interface, which thankfully can be rectified. I rate it a 3-star mainly because of my dissatisfaction with FireTV interface and thus the potential for having to spend money on an auxiliary device for a more user friendly experienc.
