The trim kit is necessary for the built in microwave and is priced above its actual value. It is plastic with a thin stainless steel overlay. It is also unnecessarily tall for such a sleek microwave. Installation must be exacting. Cut out dimensions need to be spot on. Installed it does look okay once you get used to the extra height.
