It was released in January 1, 1985. The parenthetical InchsInch in the subtitle alludes to the status at the time of InchMargaritavilleInch as Buffett's single large chart hit. Although the album charted at 100 on the Billboard 200, it is currently certified 7x Platinum by the RIAA, making it Buffett's most commercially successful. Despite it's 1985 date, the album only includes songs from 1973 to 1979. One of the biggest-selling jazz albums of all time, not to mention bossa nova's finest moment, Getz/Gilberto trumped jazz samba by bringing two of bossa nova's greatest innovators - guitarist/singer João Gilberto and composer/pianist Antonio Carlos Jobim - to New York to record with Stan Getz. The results were magic. It's helped fuel the bossa nova craze in the United States and internationally, becoming the first Grammy Award-winning album from non-American artists. It brought together Stan Getz, who had already performed the genre on his LP Jazz Samba, João Gilberto (one of the creators of the style), and Jobim, a celebrated Brazilian composer (and also one of the main creators of the genre), who wrote most of the songs in the album.
