About this product

Now considered a bossa nova classic, 1989's Rio After Dark was São Paulo singer/guitarist Caram's debut for Chesky Records, a New York tag renowned for it's high-resolution audiophile recordings. Caram was mentored by the legendary bossa nova pioneer Antônio Carlos Jobim, who joined his protege on two of the album's fifteen cuts, playing piano and singing background vocals on Caram's versions of his classic songs 'Meditation' and 'Anos Dourados (It Looks Like December).' Another star cameo came from the Grammy-winning Cuban-American reed player Paquito D'Rivera, who plays saxophone and clarinet on the tracks 'La Cumbia' and 'O Que Vier Eu Traço.' Accompanied by pianist/composer/producer David Chesky, flutist Steve Sacks, bassist David Finck, and percussionists Carlos Alberto de Oliveira and Café, Caram's sinuous vocals and syncopated fretwork showed she was an authentic new voice continuing the bossa nova tradition. The album is reissued on SACD Hybrid Stereo in 2025. Details 1. Rio After Dark 2. Alagoas 3. Meditation 4. Viola Fora de Moda 5. Summer Days 6. La Cumbia 7. Anos Dourados 8. Renovaçào 9. Rainbow 10. O Que Vier Eu Traço 11. Sem Legenda 12. Forever 13. O Tempo E O 14. Lugar 15. Serrado 16. You've Got a Friend

Signing to Chesky Records in 1989, São Paulo-born Ana Caram soon proved to be one of the audiophile tag's most valuable acquisitions. Beginning with her acclaimed debut, Rio After Dark, which featured a cameo by the legendary Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, she went on to record seven albums for the tag, including the highly regarded Blue Bossa, an impeccable 2001 project featuring noted drummer Paulo Braga and saxophonist Paulo Levi. With the album's repertoire consisting of classic Jobim gems (including 'Desafinado' and 'Corcovado') alongside other Brazilian delights (the infectious 'The Telephone Song'), and jazz standards such as 'Fly Me To The Moon,' Caram cemented her role as a top-tier 21st century ambassador for Brazil's timeless bossa nova sound. This title will be available on 180g One Step Pressing LP and SACD Hybrid Stereo. Details 1. Desafinado 2. Blue Bossa 3. Triste 4. Corcovado 5. SÓ Tinha de Ser Com Você 6. Inútil Paisagem 7. Fly Me to the Moon 8. Anjo de Mim 9. The Telephone Song 10. O Vento 11. SÓ Por Amor 12. Pura Luz
