This laptop is an absolute beast! It can handle any game I throw at it with ease. The display is amazing, and the refresh rate makes a big difference in fast-paced games. The keyboard is comfortable to type on, and the backlighting is a nice touch. The laptop is well-built and feels like it can last a long time

After five years with a noisy Alienware 17, it's time to upgrade and I found this ROG Strix G17 model. This is the best gaming laptop I've ever had. I researched various models, and found that Strix G17 is nearly identical to ROG Strix Scar, the fastest machine in its price range in 2023. Its combination of Ryzen 9 and RTX4070 provides superior performance. It is super fast and super quiet. Granted, I play graphics-light games. With MS Office, online browsing and video streaming, it's so quiet you'll not even notice it's running (just comes to show how noisy Alienwares are!). Also, the ROG dashboard (Armoury Crate) allows you to customize the laptop's power, speed, lighting, etc, with silent, performance or turbo modes. I'm removing one star for the following reasons: 1) the laptop is a bit unstable, and the process of updating drivers (AMD CPU, NVidia GPU, Strix BIOS, and Windows 11) is quite complicated. You will come across strange bugs for a while (display settings fail, black screens for a millisecond, freezes, etc.). ROG is not the most reliable brand: I owned one in the past and it required repairs. Also, online reviews about ROG and Strix are controversial. In sum, this laptop requires in-depth knowledge and is not for the faint of heart. 2) Best Buy's poor customer service: both online and in-store operate in different planets, I was very disappointed with the discrepancies in service. Online site gave me a trade-in value for my old Alienware, but the store manager couldn't accept it during check out. Online and phone customer service is inconsistent and powerless (not to mention its very poor written messages on chat). Fix 1 and 2, and I'd give 5 starts to this wonderful machine.

[Employee of bestbuy] I needed something that could handle Lightroom and Photoshop for several years to come, and I think it's more than up to that challenge. I wanted something I could play FFXIV on, and it delivers on that admirably. Gameplay is smooth even in extremely crowded areas, and overall it's wonderfully responsive. Quiet, too, even with heavy demand on the hardware! The only real issue I've noticed so far is that my display will periodically flash black while I'm doing things using the integrated GPU. It's very quick, it doesn't actually interrupt what I'm doing, it's just pretty obvious especially when the majority of the screen is white. It may be just a driver issue, but so far none of the troubleshooting steps I've gone through have resolved it.

While the specs are great and price is decent there are definitely issues that need to be addressed. Let me first start off by saying perfection does not exist, I don't expect perfection... but I do expect good functionality. Pros: When it works as intended, it works great! It's very quite compared to other gaming laptops, and runs smooth. Cons: So far I have experienced: Slight screen bleeding towards the bottom of the screen (An acceptable level. As I stated, I do not expect perfection) Random freezing that lasts anywhere from 1-10 seconds, sometimes it happens when windows first boots, sometimes it's an hour into gaming. Sometimes it happens just trying to open windows explorer. One thing that drives me absolutely crazy is motion blurring/smoothing in games and TV. I have tried and failed to remedy this with multiple settings & effort. No matter what game I play, even when it is disabled in the game I still have motion blurring. Also happens in windows, and internet browsers. The refresh rate is set 144mhz as advertised.. So I don't know if I have a defective screen, or some kind of setting or software that I cannot access. This to me in unacceptable and makes me want to return it.

The ASUS ROG Strix 17” Gaming Laptop is an absolute beast and easily one of the best gaming laptops I’ve used. Powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070, it handles modern AAA games and heavy multitasking effortlessly. Games run buttery smooth at high to ultra settings, and the 144Hz FHD display makes gameplay incredibly fluid and immersive. The 17-inch screen is bright and vibrant, perfect for both gaming and streaming. The 1TB SSD provides fast boot times and plenty of storage for games and files, while the 16GB of RAM keeps everything running smoothly without slowdowns. Thermal performance is impressive for a laptop this powerful—cooling is efficient even during long gaming sessions. The keyboard feels solid and responsive, with customizable RGB lighting that adds to the premium gaming aesthetic. The Eclipse Gray finish looks sleek and aggressive without being over-the-top. If you’re looking for a high-performance gaming laptop that can double as a productivity machine, the ASUS ROG Strix 17 is an excellent investment. Powerful, fast, and well-built—this laptop truly lives up to the ROG name.

As of right now we are not getting it to run VR, specifically the Valve Index and the Vive Pro/Vive Pro Eye but it won't run any VR that requires a DP connection. It does not have a traditional mini displayport it has the Thunderbolt 4. Which is great except that there just aren't enough adapters out there (Male Thunderbolt 4 to female full size displayport) that will work. So far tested two, waiting for the rest to arrive. It's so frustrating to me that all these gaming laptops easily meet the specifications for VR--easily! Yet it always comes down to it being a connection issue. FRUSTRATING! Stay away from the laptops without the MiniDP if you are wanting to use any VR system that requires DP, your Mini DP to DP adapter is of no use here and Thunderbolt 4 adapters that work so far I can't find. If I find an adapter that works with Thunderbolt 4 that will run my VR I will update. Otherwise, this is looking like a return.

We appreciate you sharing your feedback on this model. We hope that in time you will be able to use the unit and be satisfied with your purchase. We do value our customers and take negative customer service experience very seriously. The unit does support VR and the USB C port is a display port connected to the GPU.

Absolutely best gaming laptop I've ever had after trying two Alienware laptops where I was very dissatisfied about silly Alienware command center and Dell Support Assist software errors/delays, slow boot times, and so further! However, the laptop display unfortunately suffers from a low contrast ratio, which I was not initially used to, but this issue doesn't really affect my FPS gaming/aim training skills negatively at all.

Excellent computer!! Upgraded from my Alienware. Had an ASUS before that and I should have stayed with them. Nothing against Alienware but I feel that ASUS run smoother and less headaches. This has a bit more accessory add ons then I would like but it’s manageable.

I think this is a great laptop. The first one had some issues, but I took it back to Best Buy’s and they gave me a new one and it works beautifully. Great laptop. My Sims four never looked and worked so well I love this laptop all my games load at the speed of light. Just got to love it…

I bought the laptop as a means for gaming while deployed. The laptop is amazingly responsive and runs games at the highest definition without a loss to performance, for a very reasonable price. would definitely recommend.

Plays most newer games at 120+ fps. Easy upgradeability. I got a great deal open box, though I had to replace the power adapter because the one it came with was generic.

This gaming laptop is super powerful, its also perfect in my opinion because it offers extremely high end components while hosting a high end screen that still has the ability to push external display to get an even nice image and competitive gain. I almost notice no differnce from this laptops performance compared to my 3090ti, intel 12900k desktop build.

I’ve only used this computer for about a month now and haven’t tested all the features I’d like to, but so far it works great. it lags slightly but I figured out that’s due to it moving faster than my internet can handle. the graphics could be better but it’s good enough for me. also I love how everything lights up in different colors!

It has been great so far more powerful than my last laptop. It does get hot when full on gaming so I put a 1/4" board on my lap to set PC on. Battery life is a little shorter but will still run for 4+ hrs before I plug it back in. All in all I am very pleased.
