About this product

Victor Schioler was undoubtedly the greatest Danish pianist ever. His fame was legendary and he made some of the most impressive recordings for the Danish HMV and TONO tag together with giving concerts all over the world. His recorded legacy is among the most fascinating and we are proud to give you the 3rd volume in an ongoing series of his rarest and most sought after recordings. Victor Schiøler was born in 1899 into a musical family, the son of Victor Bendix, a composer and conductor whose name is also to be found in the Danacord catalogue, and Augusta Schiøler, a pianist. Apart from his mother his teachers included Ignaz Friedman and Arthur Schnabel and he made his debut in 1914. He pursued an energetic career as pianist, conductor and musical organizer, which was interrupted during the rise of Nazism and the German occupation of Denmark. He firmly resisted any collaboration with the Nazi powers and the hiatus allowed him to develop another interest, that of medicine, in which he graduated. In 1943 he fled to Sweden with his wife and resumed concert work. Concert tours dominated his life once more until, at a rather late age, he succeeded in having a son and cut back on his concert work in order to dedicate himself as much as possible to his family. He died in 1967 Album Tracks 1. Fantasia in C minor, No.2, K 396 2. Sonata in F minor, Op. 57, Appassionata 3. Sonata No. 30 in E Major, Op. 109 4. Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. 111 5. A new album of ten contemporary organ works from nine composers representing six countries. Carson Cooman presents a program of contemporary music for organ recorded on the remarkable post-romantic Thomas Gaida organ of the Pauluskirche in Ulm, Germany. The music varies widely in character and scope, from smaller character pieces and meditations to several dramatic, large-scale works. The final piece is the grand 15th organ symphony of English composer Bernard Heyes. Some like David Lasky's 'Peace Prayer No. 1' have a special resonance in today's world. Carson Cooman (b. 1982) is an American composer with a catalog of hundreds of works in many forms. As an active concert organist, Cooman specializes in the performance of contemporary music. Over 300 new compositions by more than 100 international composers have been written for him, and his organ performances can be heard on a number of album releases and more than 3,000 recordings available online. He is also composer-residence at the Memorial Church, Harvard University.
