About This Item

Being Dead came upon the scene in Austin, TX five years ago with their distinctly right-brain songcraft, mischievous humor, and implausibly great vocal harmonies. Even as they've graduated from curiosity to cult favorites, I've yet to encounter a single person who dislikes Being Dead. The garage-y psychedelic outsider pop band should be considered in the same category as rainbows and finding $60 in the pocket of a winter coat incontrovertibly lovable. When Horses Would Run, recorded at Radio Milk with producer/engineer Jim Vollentine (White Denim,... Trail of Dead, Spoon), spit-shines Being Dead's sound without diminishing their weirdo-best-friend vibes. Their penchant for idiosyncratic lyricism and musical unpredictability shines in InchLast Living Buffalo,Inch which finds Gumball and Falcon B*tch trading lines over a bouncy bop before skidding into a heavy doom breakdown. It stands in stark contrast to the gentle Laurel Canyon-style folk rock of InchDaydream,Inch showcasing Being Dead's extraordinary harmonies - at once plaintive, uplifting, and eerie. Their vocal interplay, however, can be just as good in contrast, like on InchMuriel's Big Day Off,Inch where Gumball's garage punk monotone delivery and Falcon B*tch's tuneful tenor volley back and forth in what sounds like the theme song for some Adult Swim cartoon. Being Dead is recommended if you like Devo, the Pixies, the Beets, Violent Femmes, or living your life like it's an ungraded art project. Album Tracks 1. The Great American Picnic 2. Last Living Buffalo 3. Muriel's Big Day Off 4. God Vs. Bible 5. Come on 6. Daydream 7. Treeland 8. When Horses Would Run 9. We Are Being Dead 10. Holy Team 11. Misery Lane 12. Livin' Easy 13. Oklahoma Nova Scotia

Deftones - Around the Fur - VINYL LP
    4.6(12)

Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8. Dai the Flu 9. Headup 10. MX
