Most people don’t pay much attention to computer speakers. Those who are interested in good quality sound will make a strategic investment. Others will just get anything to get by because the situation is just not that serious. If you fall into the latter category than the speakers or not for you. If you are an audio file and really care about the sound that comes from your computer or your laptop then you may want to consider the investment in the speakers. The reason why I called him an investment is because they are expensive. You can find plenty of other speakers that are a quarter of the price. However if you want a set of desktop speakers that House good bass treble and mid range without having to use a subwoofer you may want to consider the speakers. Pros - they are nice looking and solidly built. They sound great and they save space by not including a bass subwoofer. Cons - they are expensive (comparatively speaking), they only come in one color (silver), and the wires can be obtrusive (in addition to having the wires that connect the speakers to the computer and the speakers to each other you also have another wire that connects the speakers to a physical sound pod that controls your sound on mute functions and also serves as a headphone port). Final verdict- if you care enough about high quality sound and you have a big enough budget for computer accessories then you should definitely consider these speakers. Are they worth the $250 price tag? Well that’s entirely up to you.

I'll give a different review. i am amazed at how clear and full these speakers are at low levels. While others are asleep I can still have these speakers on because even at their lowest level you can still hear everything perfectly. Easily, the best speakers I've ever had for a desktop. Plus they match perfectly. The design gives them a little tilt upward which is also appreciated for my standing desk. Such a full sound even at low levels. The price is highly acceptable for these babies. Also, that little sound circle thingy behind my keyboard is extremely useful. Just tap for quick on and off instead of the Control + Volume I was working with. The dial spins for volume levels. I am abnormally excited over these speakers and you will be too. They also easily fill a room perfectly as well. But that's not what they're for. Your days in front of the computer will be eased with the perfect coffee shop vibe they produce.

I had a really good set of Altec Lansing speakers that I bought way back in 2000. Those wounded up in my dads hands 10 years later, and they still sound amazing to this day. Unfortunately I do not see much of Altec Lansing in PC speakers ​these days, which is why I decided on the Bose. The reason for the Bose is that I have a small desk and needed compact speakers with premium sound. I thought I achieved that goal when buying a cheaper set of generic speakers on Amazon. Now that set sounded pretty good for $60, but the controller on it was awful. So I went all out and bought these. They are not cheap, but neither is the sound. And while these sound excellent, what I love most about it is the circular remote. It feels like metal and the convenience of a headphone jack built into the remote is outstanding. So it isn't just the sound you are paying for, you are paying for the look and finish of the product, which will compliment any desk, small or large. I currently have these tucked under my curved Dell monitor that I purchased from Best Buy and I love the look. They look modern and sleek, great build quality with that silver metal mesh and metal sides. I was listening to music on these and my wife complimented the sound. Now for audiophiles you may dislike the inability to have equalizer settings to lower the bass. That is a tad disappointing, and my old altec lansing speakers had a built in equalizer in the controls. So be wary of that when you buy these. All in all, very happy with them, just trying to find some kind of software equalizer to reduce the bass in certain situations...can't seem to find anything.

I had been wanting to try Bose speakers for a long time since I also have Bose AE2 headphones which sound great! These speakers also sound very good. I am surprised that they sound as good as they do from such a small set of speakers. I was debating these Bose Companion 20 or Companion 2 series 3 speakers and I decided to go with companion 20 based on product description saying they sound good across a room. They really do sound good from a distance. I think actually even better than sitting close to them. I don’t have these hooked up to a computer. I have them hooked up to the headphone jack of an Insignia shelf system I recently bought and have set up in my bedroom. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money for a Bose wave radio and figured this may give me some of the sound of that. I’ve Never listened to a Wave radio so I can’t judge based on that. Overall very satisfied. I will just add that I do think the price is high when you don’t get a sub woofer. It does have great bass and they don’t need one however. I just think these would be a much better value at $150 or $199 and it makes me wonder how much better the Bose Companion 5 sounds with the sub woofer. I just didn’t want to spend the $399 that those cost. I almost forgot to mention that, like most other reviews the circle volume control pod is nice and has a very nice feel and build quality to it. I didn’t really need it considering how I am using these. I just use the remote from my stereo to turn up volume but if I ever hook them up to my Macbook it’s nice to know that they have the easily accessible volume adjustment.

Great quality sound. BASS sounds really good despite not have a separate subwoofer. Overall I'm really happy with this purchase and the price was good......

I never turned above 25% since the whole house can hear you. Speakers are low key flexing. I wasn't looking for sub woofers tub thumping excessively. Bose delivered.

I have owned these for about two years now and, despite their price, sound like a much larger, more expensive setup than they are. I have been using them with a 43" monitor for movies and gaming and the sound quality of these speakers brings everything I throw through them completely to life. Even the bass, except for very specific frequencies, is thunderous and subwoofer like. Surround effects are also very well replicated through these.

I'm so glad that I got these speakers. They are so much better than any of the ones that have ever been provided with any system that I've bought in the past.

Bought these for our home cpu set up and all I have to save is I am impressed. These puppies rock and sound real good and they look real good. Solid build and worth the money.

Solid all around. Easy to set up small footprint ... The sound is very good despite it has no sub woofer, The controller for volume has inputs for headphones and another device..... I would buy again even though the relative high price.

The Bose® Companion® 20 Multimedia Speaker System are the best 2-piece speakers that I have ever heard. The sound is just unbelieveable! I am able to hear sounds in songs that I haven't heard before. I compared these speakers to the Companion® 2 series II speakers and there is a huge difference. First of all, the Companion® 2 speakers have very little bass compared to the Companion® 20's. The 20's have amazing bass thanks to its advanced port design (see product pictures). Once you hear these speakers, you will be searching the floor for a subwoofer when really there isn't one! The Companion® 2 speakers were made for someone who will be sitting right in front of their computer and speakers. That is why it doesn't sound good when you're not close to the speakers. But, the Companion® 20 speakers have been designed so that you can enjoy the sound when you are sitting in front of the speakers, or even when you are across the room (see product video). Next, the Companion® 20 speakers are very well built. They don't feel cheap at all! You can notice that Bose® has used the best materials for it. Also, the control pod makes it very easy to change the volume, mute the sound, connect headphones, and to connect another device via the AUX input. These speakers will blow you away with its sound quality. If you are unsure about buying this product, go to your local Best Buy and listen to them. Also, compare them to other brands. This will help you appreciate the Bose® speakers more. You will also see the Companion® 5 speaker system at Best Buy. The only difference in them is that the they have more bass and that is because it comes with a separate subwoofer. But the problem is that the price is $400!! I wouldn't want a seperate subwoofer because the Companion® 20's have very good bass and they will be easier to move around or to take somewhere else. Whereas the Companion® 5, you will need to carry a huge subwoofer if you want to take the speakers somewhere. Overall, I would highly recommend these speakers because they are the best speakers you will find for $250. I've been a Bose® fan for a long time and I always will be one. Bose® is the best brand you can go to for sound. If you don't belive this, go to their website and see the large variety of Bose® products. Also, research the company's history. The company started in the 1960's whereas other known companies like Beats® by dr.dre have started in like 2004. This show how long Bose® has been improving their sound for all of their products. I have these Bose speakers to replace a set of Logitec 5.1 computer speakers. I chose the Bose unit to save space as I didn't want a subwoofer to take up space but wanted the deep base sound. Although the Bose are $$$ they are well worth the price. The sound is amazingly clear and have more base than would be expected. The volume control is easy to use as it is very large and smooth to raise or lower the volume. It is possible to supply two separate sound inputs (I.E.; computer from rear input and use Ipod, phone, mp3 player from front).

The Companion 20s are one of the best computer speaker systems I've ever tested, and represent a true bargain at this price. Of course, without a subwoofer they don't provide the extra deep bass to satisfy hip hop lovers, but for all other material, they're completely enjoyable. As you'll read elsewhere, they fill a good sized room with sound. I'm more impressed with how good they sound at low volume. There's no need for a loudness button. They sound so detailed and unusually punchy at low and medium levels that I don't feel the urge to crank them. When I do turn the volume wheel up, they remain clean and very, very loud. There is a point where the laws of physics kick in and the Companions begin to exhibit speaker compression, cabinet noise, rear port chuffing, loss of treble detail. I just can't imagine the need to push the volume that hard, they get plenty loud before these artifacts appear. Any extreme design like this is going to exhibit limitations and give up an advantage or two to more conventional speaker boxes. Next to a good pair of Usher, Polk or Paradigm bookshelves, those inherent flaws begin to show through. They also don't compare favorably with studio monitors like Tannoy 501As or Yamaha HS50Ms. Any of these larger, heavier, and much more expensive speakers will exhibit warmer and richer midrange, more transparency, and more nuance with complex instruments like grand piano. Yet none of these alternative speakers -Weigh a pound and a half each and sit perfectly next to a desktop or laptop. -Sound as pleasant at low volume as high. -Develop a believable stereo image sitting a foot or so apart on your desktop, and a foot or so from your face. -Are uniformly enjoyable with a wide range of music, games, movies, and computer based material. -Offer surprising performance from such a tiny source. Hard to imagine a more versatile, portable, attractive, powerful, or beautifully designed product.

These speakers definitely have some bass for the size of the speaker. They are great looking and easy to hook up to your computer. I also like the long chords and adjustable volume control. They sound terrific.

I wanted speakers for my desk top Apple computer with decent sound and affordable price. Wow! These speakers exceeded my expectations for sound quality. Good things do come in small packages! Everything about the speakers are perfect...size, sound quality, very simple to use and just plug them in and listen! I'm really enjoying listening to my music now.

These have quality sound and great bass but not so much that it overwhelms the rest of the music! Touch sensitive on off hub wheel turn wheel for up/down volume control. Hub also has port to hook your headphones thru your speakers rather then reach behind the iMac and has port to put a aux cable from phone to speakers.

I picked this up as I wanted some great sound for my notebook without having to charge a battery all the time. They dont take up much space, very easy to connect with an extra hook up spot on the volume control knob for a tab or phone. My kids love to use these speakers as well.

These speakers are great. The sound quality exceeds everything I've heard, except the Bose Companion 5.0, which I determined was more than I needed and too expensive. The set up was easy. Caution: The two desktop speakers are large and take-up some space on your desk. The bass is excellent and I enjoy listening to music and videos much more with these attached. The volume control is awesome as well. Tap the top of it and the speakers mute. Turn the dial for volume control; so much easier than trying to find the right icon on your PC to click, especially when the screen is blown up and the icons are not available. I would have given this a 5 star rating, but feel Bose prices its products a little higher than it should and the desktop space issue is an issue. Sound and functionality is excellent.

I just upgraded to these Bose speakers from the Bose Companion 2 speakers. I did this because the other speakers did not have a lot of bass. The Bose Companion 20 speakers provide excellent sound from just the two speakers. There is no subwoofer, but I get a lot of bass out of these. It's not quite the bass that you would get from a subwoofer, but it's real close. The plus side is that I don't have an extra subwoofer sitting behind my computer. The wired volume puck is nice to sit out on my desk. It includes a touch on/off switch on the top and a ring that you can rotate to adjust the volume. There is also a headphone jack and extra input on it. These were $150 more than the Bose Companion 2 speakers, but for me it is worth it. Others may not like the price and can probably find an actual computer speaker system with a subwoofer. If you are a fan of Bose quality, then these speakers are for you.
