About this product
The English composer Michael Brough (born in Yorkshire, in northern England, in 1960) is rather an unusual character he is also a full time solicitor. Late in 2013, with a commission from the Swaledale Festival, he sat down at his piano and began to improvise the first of what would become 25 Picture-Preludes, in the major and minor keys. Like Rachmaninov's Etudes-Tableaux and Medtner's Skazki, these short pieces are intended to stimulate a response in the listener's imagination. Rachmaninov and Medtner are audible influences on Brough's bluesy, late-Romantic musical language. This recording was made on the 'Bosendorfer 290', a piano with an extended range in the bass. Michael Brough was educated at Leeds University, where he was the chaplaincy organist from 1980 to 1982. He qualified as a solicitor in 1988 and still advises on property and private client law. He has been one of the organists at Holy Trinity Sloane Street, Chelsea, in central London, continuously since 1986. As a composer, he has above all written songs; there is also chamber music, including a half hour bass clarinet sonata, sacred and choral music, and a few pieces for organ. Album Tracks 1. Tiptoe between the toadstools of Liverpool's city parks, and amongst the foliage you might find a Strawberry Guy, contemplating his next chord-progression. Composing hi-fi symphonies from within his humble abode, the Welsh-born songwriter is ready to share the fruits of his labour with debut album Sun Outside My Window. A timeless vista of ethereal balladry looking towards 19th Century musical maestros and works of art, it brings new meaning to the term 'Modern Classic' and is the most optimistic of lockdown records yet. InchIt's about seeing the simple things in life and them making you happy,Inch tells Alex Stephens, the Guy behind the Strawberry. InchI remember this day when I was really down... looking out the window, the sun beaming in was beautiful, it made me want to go outside - it was simple but made me so happy in that instance. Inch A one-man impressionist, painting majestic soundscapes, Strawberry Guy blends truthful lyrics with rich arrangements to conjure new emotive worlds. Inspired by composers of the Romantic period, or Debussy, Ravel, and other classical artists of the 1800s, his wonderland moves like a Monet painting where arpeggios dance between meadows of dazzling dynamics and dramatic key changes. As former keyboard player of The Orielles and Trudy and The Romance, the light through his floor to ceiling windows has caused a dramatic Greenhouse Effect and now ripening on solo terms, his innocent uploads of 'Without You' and 'F-Song' comfort 2 million Spotify listeners a month. 'Mrs Magic' has received 40 million streams, landing at #13 in it's chart and countless fan-created videos have appeared on YouTube. 1. Intro2. When Morning Comes3. Stay In This Moment4.
