  • Key Specs
    • Image Sensor Size: 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55mm)
    • Effective Pixels: 8.29 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
    • Standardized Video Resolution: 4K (2160p) (An approximated measurement of the product’s video resolution. This may not be the exact resolution of the product, which may be slightly more or less when using a pixel-by-pixel measurement.)
  • General
    • Brand: Canon
    • Model Number: 3667C002
    • Product Name: VIXIA HF G50 4K Premium Camcorder
    • Color: Black
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55mm)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 3840 x 2160 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Digital Zoom: None (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Optical Zoom: 20x (The optical zoom uses a combination of lenses that magnify the image prior to it being registered at high resolution by the imaging sensor.)
    • Image Stabilization: Optical (This feature helps reduce image/video blur or distortion that may occur from unsteady motion.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
  • Focus
    • Auto/Manual Focus: Automatic, Manual
    • Focus Modes: Automatic/manual
  • Exposure Control
    • Minimum Aperture: f/2.8 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: f/1.8 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 73.4 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)
    • White Balance Modes: Tungsten light, daylight (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 8.29 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • Minimum Focal Length: 3.67 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
  • Display
    • Display Type: LCD
    • Screen Size: 3 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Aspect Ratio: 16:9, 16:9, 16:9, 16:9, 16:9 (The measurement of the width of a screen compared to the height of a screen, expressed as a ratio.)
    • Touch Screen: true (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
    • Varying Angle Screen: true (The camera's screen can be flipped out and adjusted to rotate, tilt, and/or swivel.)
  • Video
    • Standardized Video Resolution: 4K (2160p) (An approximated measurement of the product’s video resolution. This may not be the exact resolution of the product, which may be slightly more or less when using a pixel-by-pixel measurement.)
    • Video Resolution(s) and Frame Rate(s): MP4 – 3840x2160: 29.97P / 23.98P; 1920x1080: 59.94P / 29.97P / 23.98P; 1280x720: 59.94P (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, and the frame rate used to capture the video. The higher the resolution the finer the video detail that can be seen. The faster the frame rate the smoother the playback for higher motion activities like sports.)
    • Maximum Video Frame Rate: Up to 30 fps (The maximum frequency at which consecutive images can be captured by a video recording device.)
    • Slow Motion Recording: true
    • Video Encoding Formats: MP4 (The process of preparing the video for output, where the digital video is encoded to meet proper formats and specifications for recording and playback with the use of a compatible device.)

Q: Can I live stream to Facebook

A: Not directly with the camera. There are output converters for camera to pc and camera to iOS. Also need a program on either to get to Facebook live.

Q: Does it have night vision or infrared?

A: Yes, this unit has night vision.

Q: Can this camera connect with WiFi to my phone to download the videos off of the camera?

A: No it can't. pull out the SD card and download files to your computer. then send from your computer to your phone via Bluetooth.

Q: Can this camera be used for Zoom calls by connecting it to a laptop, to provide better video and audio for a virtual meeting or interview?

A: Yes, you can connect the hdmi output from the camera to your computer. You will need a video capture device, such as the Elgato Cam Link, to convert the hdmi signal to usb. I am not certain about the audio quality you will receive. Likely it will be better than the built in microphone on your laptop. For best audio a separate microphone that can be placed close to you will provide the best audio.

Q: how does the audio work on this camera? does it come with a natural sound mic? does it have inputs that I could use to get true audio?

A: Yes the camera has a pretty good mic on the camera. You can also adjust the volume of those mics in the menu. I use the external mic jack to connect the sound track directly into the camera so I can control the volume with a sound board. I connect the receiver of a wireless mic to the camera and the transmitter to the sound board. You can also purchase a shoe mic that rides on top of the camera to improve the mics on the camera.

Q: How an I supposed to download bigger files, it will download smaller files to my computer via USB, but not larger ones.

A: Hmmm - Are you asking about other options than removing the SD card to load to your computer? If I’m in the field, and going to be shooting a lot of segments - I’ll will Cary a wireless external drive and backup my files there. I still like to have two copies until I get back to my office But this method is super easy - and quick - and no need for a computer. Hope this helped.
