Cédric Tiberghien - Beethoven: Complete Variations for Piano, Vol. 3 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

After a formidable first volume, Cédric Tiberghien continues his exploration of Beethoven's corpus of variations. At the heart of this new album are the famous Thirty-two Variations in C minor and their tangy reminiscences of Bach - the Ciaccona from Partita No.2 for violin solo, presented here in Brahms's masterly transcription. He also takes the opportunity to show us what a certain school of American composers (Crumb, Cage, Feldman) has made of this tradition of variation form. Album Tracks 20. 32 Variations WoO 80 C minor~Variation XIX 7. Last Pieces~1. Slow - Soft 30. 9 Variations on a March by Ernst Christoph Dressler WoO 63 C minor~Variation V

Following in the footsteps of Bach and Handel, Felix Mendelssohn and his sister Fanny Hensel wrote some of the most sumptuous choral works of the first half of the nineteenth century. The testamentary Christus, left unfinished at Felix's death, though often overshadowed by Paulus and Elias, forms a veritable trilogy with them. Fanny's early cantata Lobgesang, composed for her son Sebastian's first birthday, offers a joyous, festive contrast to her brother's music. Album Tracks 1. The Mass in B minor is one of the supreme peaks of Bach's music. A visionary synthesis of the art of a composer who, here more than anywhere else, gives meaning to the world in which he lives, and reveals to us something of what lies beyond. Raphaël Pichon and his ensemble Pygmalion explore this universe which gives utterance to the mysteries of incarnation and death. Album Tracks 1. Bach Mass in B minor, BWV 232, I. Missa.
