Christoph Eschenbach - Symphony No 6 - Piano Quartet - SUPER-AUDIO CD [Super Audio CD (SACD)]

The premiere of Franz Lachner's Symphony No. 6 was held in Munich on 19 April 1837 with the composer as the conductor. The Munich press termed it a Inchmagnificent workInch and an Inchoutstanding masterpiece,Inch and in this truly extraordinary work Lachner refrains from the confrontational juxtaposition of large- thematic blocks (above all occurring in his third and fifth symphonies), instead presenting a Inchmore organicInch compositional style in which motivic-thematic developments are realized step by step. Lachner's Concertino for Bassoon and Orchestra is a work from 1824, composed during his Vienna years. He dedicated it to Theobald Hürth, who was then the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra's principal bassoonist. It is not known whether or not Hürth ever performed this work in public, and performances of it are not documented. It is one of the earliest extant compositions by Lachner and possibly his first work with orchestra. Here Chia-Hua Hsu, the solo bassoonist of Taiwan's Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, interprets it's recording premiere. Album Tracks 1. Symphony No. 6 Op. 56 in D Major 2. Concertino for Bassoon & Orchestra in E Flat Major

Our new Henk Badings recording further confirms his rank as a great twentieth-century Dutch composer with an important and independent individual voice in European music. Although he composed his fourth symphony during the war years, absolutely nothing related to World War II or it's atmosphere is to be found in it. It is instead a work adhering to the classical structure and displaying unaffected naturalness and quick musical wit especially in it's fast movements. In 1949 Badings composed his fifth symphony as a commissioned work for the sixtieth anniversary of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. In 1955 a reviewer for the daily de Tijd wrote that this symphony resembled film music inasmuch as it clearly dealt with illustrative elements. This was not intended as a negative judgment but instead was born of admiration for the composer's suggestive style. In any case, today this music impresses the listener with it's surprising freshness and vitality. Album Tracks 1. I. Lento - Allegro 2. II. Scherzo Presto 3. III. Largo E Mesto 4. IV. Allegro 5. I.
