About this product

The premiere of Franz Lachner's Symphony No. 6 was held in Munich on 19 April 1837 with the composer as the conductor. The Munich press termed it a Inchmagnificent workInch and an Inchoutstanding masterpiece,Inch and in this truly extraordinary work Lachner refrains from the confrontational juxtaposition of large- thematic blocks (above all occurring in his third and fifth symphonies), instead presenting a Inchmore organicInch compositional style in which motivic-thematic developments are realized step by step. Lachner's Concertino for Bassoon and Orchestra is a work from 1824, composed during his Vienna years. He dedicated it to Theobald Hürth, who was then the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra's principal bassoonist. It is not known whether or not Hürth ever performed this work in public, and performances of it are not documented. It is one of the earliest extant compositions by Lachner and possibly his first work with orchestra. Here Chia-Hua Hsu, the solo bassoonist of Taiwan's Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, interprets it's recording premiere. Album Tracks 1. Symphony No. 6 Op. 56 in D Major 2. Concertino for Bassoon & Orchestra in E Flat Major

Wdr Sinfonieorchester - Symphonies Nos. 3 & 4 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The symphonic oeuvre of the Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz has never before been recorded in it's entirety Inchfrom one sourceInch, so that the series beginning here represents a pioneering act. The Third Symphony for large symphony orchestra was written in early 1952 and the monumental and pathetic music shows a hitherto unknown face of the composer. One of it's characteristics is the use of large instrumental blocks, although fragments also appear that hint at the lighter expressivity of the neoclassical tradition. It is a masterfully constructed work and the overt formal schemes of the Classical period are complemented by the subtle use of elements that were characteristic of music between the wars - in particular the timbres of the French tradition. Nevertheless, this work is not about setting new accents. The same applies to the Fourth Symphony. The orchestra of this work from 1953 is larger than in the previous symphony - among other things, English horn, E-flat and bass clarinet, contrabassoon and harp are now also called for. In both works, the composer achieved an excellent balance between the music of the past (form referring to tradition) and new sources of inspiration (folklore) as well as a new approach to traditional elements (rhythm). As a result, she managed to reconcile the autonomous, artistic qualities of her music with the expectations of the cultural policy of the time. We are very happy to have found congenial interpreters for this project, which sets new standards in the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Polish conductor Lukasz Borowicz. Album Tracks 1. Symphony No. 3~Drammatico 2. Symphony No. 3~Andante 3. Symphony No. 3~Vivace 4. Symphony No. 3~Finale. Moderato - Allegro con passione 5. Symphony No. 4~Appassionato. Allegro inquieto 6. Evergreen Symphony Orchestra Schmalfuss - Symphonies 2 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

During the decades that the Imperial Diet met in Regensburg (1663-1806) the city's envoys and dignitaries of course experienced »classical music« on festive official occasions. The court chapel of the Princes of Thurn and Taxis was regarded as a most highly attractive venue for virtuosos and other musicians. Baron Theodor von Schacht was one of the central personalities at this musical court. The entire spectrum of court music culture, which always followed current stylistic developments, is reflected in his oeuvre. On Vol. 2 Schacht the symphonist again follows his chosen model Joseph Haydn in matters of mind and music. However, far from being a mere epigone, he always preserved his own personal signature here we have enthralling works, some of them filled with carefree and mirthful moods. Fast-moving activity with surprising harmonies is often result, always neatly packaged within the bounds of classical form.
