Crumb - Amama - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

I just wanted to be honest about everything, from my musical influencesto my story,Inch muses Neal Francis. After years of dishonest living-consumed by drugs, alcohol, and addiction-such sincerity is jarring fromthe 30-year-old Chicago-based musician. Liberated from a selfdestructive past and born anew in sobriety, Francis has captured aninspired collection of songs steeped in New Orleans rhythms, Chicagoblues, and early 70s rock n' roll. There is a deep connection betweenFrancis's childhood-his obsession with boogie woogie piano, his father'sgift of a dusty Dr. John LP-and the songs he's created. The result is anastonishing collection of material without parallel in the contemporaryfunk and soul scene. The influences are unmistakable the vocal stylingsof Allen Toussaint and Leon Russell; the second line rhythms of TheMeters and Dr. John; the barroom rock 'n' roll of The Rolling Stones; thegospel soul of Billy Preston; the roots music of The Band. Francis paystribute to the masters but has his own story to tell InchIt's the life I've lived sofar. Album Tracks 1. This Time 2. She's a Winner 3. How Have I Lived 4. These Are the Days 5. ICE MELT, Crumb's second LP, begins with a chaotic scene and ends with a lullaby. InchLyrically,Inch says frontwoman Lila Ramani, Inchmy goal was to return back down to earth from a strange, floating place, and write about real substances and beings that live on this planet.Inch The sounds, too, feel more grounded and of this earth, evoking moods of both isolation and deep connection. Recorded to 2-inch tape by analog masters Jonathan Rado and Michael Harris, ICE MELT is Crumb's most ambitious collection of songs to date, at turns totally in control and willing to spin off into oblivion. Crumb is the collaboration of Brooklyn-based musicians Lila Ramani (guitar, vocals), Brian Aronow (synth, keys, sax), Jesse Brotter (bass), and Jonathan Gilad (drums). The friends came together in 2016 with the goal of developing and recording a collection of songs Ramani had written in high school and college, the work ultimately resulting in the band's first two EPs, 2016's InchCrumbInch and 2017's InchLocket.Inch Encouraged by the warm reception online and at shows, the band evolved into a full time touring and recording project. In June 2019, Crumb will Jinx, their first full-length album and best distillation to date of their singular blend of psych-rock and jazz. On Jinx, Ramani continues to helm the songwriting, with Aronow, Brotter, and Gilad each bringing distinctive ideas to match her ethereal, intimate vocals and luminous guitar lines. Informed by two years of nearly non-stop touring, the songs sweep and swell to capture the beguiling live spirit of Crumb shows, while taking listeners one step further down the band's dizzying, hypnotic path.
