Doran - Aerosols - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Music in Bali plays a vital role in society and in daily life. Apart from serving art, music is also used to support religious ceremonies. For us as brothers from a Dutch father and Balinese mother, music was also a daily presence in our lives. We grew up in The Netherlands and are trained classical musicians but the Balinese music always served as a great source of inspiration. This album resembles the mutual inspiration from two different cultures that are actually closer that one would think at first hand. Album Tracks 1. Balinese Cerimonial Music 2. Mikrokosmos, Book IV from the Island of Bali 3. Le Tour Du Monde en Miniature 4. Anthology of Indonesian Classical Music, Book 1 Art Song 5. Images- Book 2, L. 111 II. Et la Luna Descend Sur Le Temple Qui Fut 6. Sonata for Solo Cello II. Tema Pastorale Con Variazioni 7. Cello Sonata in C Major, Op. 65

Taking their name from a children's fantasy novel, Doran is a four-person freak folk collective hailing from rural Virginia, New York, and the Pacific Northwest. Together, singer and banjo-player Elizabeth Laprelle (Anna & Elizabeth), multi-media performance artists and musicians Channing Showalter and Annie Schermer (West Of Roan), and ethnomusicologist and multi-instrumentalist Brian Dolphin draw from their respective work in story, song, archetype and image, and advance it into an untapped experimental terrain that is newly raw, wintry, moody, and tender. The result is an intimately collaborative record of rich and often eerie modal harmonies, supported by sparse acoustic arrangements, and grounded by the group's strong background in traditional Appalachian ballad singing, Eastern European choral music, Celtic folklore, and improvisation. Songs ranging from sorrowful to playful twine together in a hauntingly beautiful cohesive album one could imagine hearing on the soundtrack of the next A24 folk horror film. Doran's layered, searching debut reaches into the spaces between self and other, past and future, inner landscape and outer, and returns with a new language to describe the journey. Album Tracks 1. Deer People 2. Old Moon 3. Arbegen 4. Our Captain Cried All Hands 5. And We Are Going 6. Down the Road 7. Solstice 8. The Shadow Walks Behind You 9. Bread and Water 10. Bonefolder 11. Boy/Moon 12. Day Into Night 13. Deer People Reprise
