Dr. Caligari - 4K Blu-Ray [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray]

In 1920, one brilliant movie jolted the postwar masses and catapulted the German Expressionist film movement into history. That movie was The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, a plunge into the mind of insanity that severs all ties with the rational world. Director Robert Wiene and a team of visionary designers crafted a nightmare realm in which light, shadow and substance are abstracted, a world in which a demented doctor and a carnival sleepwalker perpetrate a series of ghastly murders in a small community. This authoritative edition presents the F. W. Murnau Stiftung's meticulous 4K restoration of the film, with a new orchestral score by Emmy-winning composer Jeff Beal (House of Cards), which had it's premiere performance at Carnegie Hall on June 3, 2024.

Ignoring all sequels and remakes, this direct follow-up to the 1978 horror classic finds Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) still suffering from PTSD due to her encounter with masked killer Michael Myers 40 years earlier. When Myers returns to Haddonfield on Halloween, he'll have to contend with Laurie, who's had four decades to prepare for his arrival, and will stop at nothing to protect her family and take Michael down for good. With Judy Greer, Andi Matichak, Will Patton, Haluk Bilginer. 106 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English. Two-disc set.

Psychiatrist Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) was tasked with evaluating young scientist Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs), arrested for the grisly murder of his mentor Dr. Pretorius (Ted Sorel). She comes to believe that Pretorius had created a window into other dimensions... and that the invention can allow the unholy and hungry beasts without to cross over. Stuart Gordon reunited with his InchRe-AnimatorInch principals for another shocking take on H.P. Lovecraft's prose; Ken Foree co-stars. 86 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles Englih (SDH); audio commentary; featurettes; image gallery; theatrical trailer.
