About this product

Of the birth and studies of Emanuel Siprutini we know nothing, except that the Italianization of his Hebrew name, Shiprut, would seem to indicate, if anything, the be-longing to an Italian school and style, if only for convenience (Italian cellists were the most appreciated). Around 1750 there are records of his concerts in Holland, where he was also active as a wine merchant, and few years later he settled in London as a concert performer and cello teacher. Leopold Mozart met him in 1764 while visiting England, and struck by his talent tried to convince him to convert to Christianity. Emanuel refused and remained serenely Jewish, cellist and wine trader. He left seven books of sonatas for the cello, which the Mozarts certainly possessed, as is to be believed, finding traces and shreds of ideas in the works of Wolfgang. Album Tracks 1. Six Solos for a Cello with Bass Op. III (London, 1764) 2. Sonata I in D minor 3. Sonata II in F Major 4. Sonata III in G Major 5. Sonata IV in a Minor 6. Sonata V in D Major 7. Sonata VI in C Major 8. Six Solos for a Cello with Bass Op. V (London, About 1765) 9. Sonata I in C Major 10. Sonata II in a Major 11. Sonata III in G Major 12. Sonata IV in D Major 13. Sonata V in F Major 14. Sonata VI in G Major

Emanuela Vozza - Cello Sonatas Op. 5 & 6 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Combined with the first volume of this series dedicated to the cello in the eighteenth century; where the 12 sonatas of Lanzetti's Op. I of 1736 are proposed; plus the sonata which was added years later in the English edition of Op. V and VI completes the entire corpus of music that this author had published in print. Between about 1750 and '60; following a serious illness that brought him close to death; he wanted to publish the first of these two works; and the second following a total and happy recovery. Emanuela Vozza - Siprutini: Cello Sonatas, Op. 6 & 7 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Combined with the previous recording of Opus III and V, this publication completes the oeuvre of cello sonatas by Emanuel Siprutini. Born in a Jewish family, perhaps in Holland, he ar-rived in England following the InchJewish naturalization actInch established in 1753 by King George II of England, and he settled in London as a wine merchant, concert performer and cello teacher, having among his students John Crosdill, the most famous British cellist of the eighteenth century. Leopold Mozart met Siprutini in 1764, during his stay in England. Struck by the cellist's talent, he tried to convince him to con-vert to Catholicism, but Emanuel remained serenely Jewish. Between 1756 and 1775 he published four books of cello sonatas which the Mozarts certainly owned, as one might think by finding fragments and ideas in Wolfgang's most beautiful works.

Emanuela Vozza - Cello Viruosi in France, 1730-1790 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Twelfth title of our series entirely dedicated to the solo cello in the XVIIIth century, combined with the precedents with the sonatas by Lanzetti, Janson, Duport and Spourni, this collection investigates the fascinating path of the Neapolitan cello school in France and, in parallel, the developments of the musical styles towards the birth of new European music in Classicism. From the bewitching, hypnotic atmospheres of the French Arias to the lively theatricality of the Italian musical imagination, throughout the sixty years preceding the Revolution the cello was certainly one of the most authentic protagonists.
