Q: I'd like to know if this unit was made in the USA.

A: I just put it in the window with no cover. If you want to cover it feel free to do so. As far as cleaning just keep the air filter clean check it once a month and you should have a trouble free air conditioner
A: They are allowing room for the accordian sides louvers. Simply cut them down to the point they will fit. Perhaps just using (1) side will do it.
