About this product
Twelve inch vinyl pressing of this 2013 single. Eric Copeland of Black Dice returns to DFA with 'Masterbater,' 11+ minutes of skronking gyrations and prickly samples. Throughout the track, radio-static intrusions and snatches of glossolalic R&B give the impression that Copeland is stuck inside his car, flicking impatiently from channel to channel while a hailstorm pelts the enclosing steel. But 'Masterbater' doesn't devolve into the self-indulgence implied by the title, maintaining propulsion even as conflicting tensions swallow each other whole.

DFA takes two artists who released different sorts of summer psychedelia in 2013 and pairs them with two fantastic new remixers / producers who have both done work for L.I.E.S.-Anthony Naples (whose personal obsession with Black Dice made him an obvious candidate for the job) and Bookworms (who Larry Gus watched play live at Output this year, mouth agape). Naples takes InchBobby StrongInch and ends up with what is essentially InchCone Toaster Pt. 2,Inch which is just what you wanted. Bookworms shreds InchThe Night PatrolsInch before building something dark and loud, sheets of sound layered on top of relentless sub sounds. A real surprise, this unique marriage of artists and remixers is limited to a hand-stamped and numbered edition of 500 blue-tag copies with custom spine labels and download codes. Album Tracks 1. Bobby Strong (Anthony Naples Remix) 2. The Night Patrols (A Man Asleep) (Bookworms Remix)
