About this product
Safe to Run - Esther Rose - Everything clicks on Safe to Run, the fourth album from singer, songwriter Esther Rose. It's the quiet culmination of years spent fully immersed in a developing artistry, and presents Rose's always vividly detailed emotional scenes with new levels of clarity and control. As with previous work, her songwriting transfigures the chaos and uncertainty of a life in progress, but here she introduces a newfound pop element that attaches unshakably catchy hooks to even the darkest stretches of the journey. Rose takes an unblinking look at her own vulnerabilities as well as more universal concerns, somehow never taking herself too seriously in the process. This manifests as a critique of the insidious sexism of the music industry on InchDream Girl,Inch but quickly melts into a hazy memoryscape of the dive bar drama and suspended hovering of her early 20s on InchChet Baker.Inch The song InchSafe to RunInch (a gorgeous duet with Hurray for the Riff Raff's Alynda Segarra) directly merges the personal with the global, superimposing feelings of spiritual displacement onto the larger, looming dread of climate grief. Rose breathes in the ecstasy of the natural world in one line and makes fun of herself a few bars later. There are ghosts in the room for most of her songs, but she's invited them in and is cracking jokes with them over a drink or two. Ultimately all of these new advancements become twinkles of light in the background as they fold into the big picture impact of the songs themselves. Esther Rose translates her world into eleven curious and captivating scenes. While the songs are stunning one by one, absorbing Safe to Run as a whole feels like witnessing something taking shape, experiencing the headspins of the elevation and the slow return to equilibrium as the clouds start clearing. Album Tracks 1. Stay 2. Chet Baker 3. Spider 4. S

Esther Rose was in perpetual motion when she wrote How Many Times. In the span of two years, she moved three times, navigated the end of a relationship, and began touring more than ever. The New Orleans-based singer-songwriter used that momentum while she penned her third studio album. That's why, as the album title's nod to the cyclical nature of life implies, there's a rush that accompanies How Many Times as if you're experiencing an awakening, too. With the integrity of Dean Johnson, Faustina Masigat, and Kiki Cavazos serving as primary influences, Rose expands her alt-country sound into a blossoming world of folk pop, rustic americana, and tender harmonies. A collection of complete takes recorded live to tape with rich instrumentation, soul-tugging hooks, and resonating vocal melodies, How Many Times carries you into the room in which it was made. There to help realize this was co-producer Ross Farbe of synthpop band Video Age, who Rose also credits for bringing a stereo pop glow to these new songs. From opening for Nick Lowe on tour to being asked to sing on Jack White's latest album, Rose's journey through the past few years has been one of saying yes to new opportunities, all while nurturing and playing in bands in the New Orleans country music scene. The arrival of How Many Times is evidence of the sweeping growth Rose has undergone, both personally and artistically. She's turning towards her troubles and facing them head-on, ready to feel whatever's necessary in order to keep growing upwards and outwards. Album Tracks 1. How Many Times 2. Keeps Me Running 3. My Bad Mood 4. Coyote Creek 5. Good Time 6. When You Go 7. Songs Remain 8. Mountaintop 9. Are You Out There 10. Without You

The work of Kate Wolf is quite indescribable. Kate Wolf has a naturally gorgeous voice; a deep, rich, beautifully tuned vocal instrument. Just listen to the first four bars of the opening track InchHere I stand alone again, reaching out across the roomInch. Kate's voice is immediately personal, poignant and divinely inspired. I would be more than a little dishonest if I didn't admit that, to me, anything Kate Wolf sings with that voice is going to sound good. - Philip Elwood, Music columnist, San Francisco Examiner Album Tracks 1. Safe at Anchor 2. Early Morning Melody 3. Sweet Love 4. She Rises Like the Dolphin 5. Great Love of My Life 6. Shining! 7. September Song 8. Seashore Mountain Lady 9. Looking Back at You 10.
