About this product
As Fiver, songwriter, vocalist, researcher, and guitarist Simone Schmidt continues to innovate in the Country and Folk music traditions with humour and gravity. Cleaning House arrives after a period of loss, of friends and paradigms and metaphor. The singer had all but given up on song. But after consulting a psychic who gave them a ritual for purging their apartment of stuck energy, Schmidt applied the same process to Cleaning House. Suddenly the nagging melodies and unfinished phrases that littered the mind came into focus, some molten feelings that had hardened called to be enshrined, and some wilting tunes were reinvigorated by new players. Here they introduce the Fiver Trois drummer Nate Doucet, bassist Jeremy Costello, and steel player Dani Crowther, balancing tight songs with sprawling improvisational passages, delivered with dynamic energy and palpable affection. Fiver's lyrics refuse sloganeering but remain political, deploying wit and poetry to detangle the knot of our human condition under late-stage capitalism. Cleaning House joins Fiver's impressive discography, critically acclaimed for it's warmth and rigour and spanning collaborations with old-time musicians Lonesome Ace String Band on Audible Songs From Rockwood (2017) to free music improvisers in Fiver with the Atlantic School of Spontaneous Composition (named best music of 2021 by the Guardian UK). Despite evading the logic of the commercial music industry, their presence is felt. Their songs are covered widely, most notably by U.S. Girls and Stripmall Ballads. Most recently, their collaboration with Destroyer, the song Bologna, was named one of the Top 100 songs of 2025 by Pitchfork. Album Tracks 1. Glutton for Time 2. R.J.D 3. Tomka Ton 4. Only in the Longing 5. Good Run 6. That's a Joke 7. Crossing the Mote 8. Elemental Progression

Simone Schmidt is a versatile and thorough craftsman - a distinct vocalist, guitarist, and wordsmith; a rigorous researcher, producer, and designer; a friend to many and enemy to some. Over the past 13 years and 7 full length records, Schmidt has largely rejected the logic of the music industry, employing many aliases in the course of creating a robust discography that engages various strains of North American folk and Country music, from Old Time to Psychedelic Country. In a totally unpredictable follow up to the historical fiction of Fiver's Audible Songs From Rockwood (2017), Fiver with The Atlantic School of Spontaneous Composition wrangles the impulses of a new generation of improvisational musicians (best known for their work with Beverly Glenn-Copeland) toward an unexpected reimagining of Country music and it's possibilities.Yeah But Uhh HeyLeaning Hard (On My Peripheral Vision)June Like A BugJr. WreckSick GladiolaDeath Is Only A DreamPaid In PrideFor Your Sake Album Tracks 1. Originally released in 1996, Unknown Counry is available on vinyl for the first time in the US! In 1978, The Clean were the seeds of New Zealand punk. In the years since, they have carved out a big sandbox for everyone to play in, and their influence resonates not only in NZ but around the world. A group that thrives when free of expectations, The Clean's Robert Scott, Hamish Kilgour, and David Kilgour are, as Tape Op described, Incha casually wonderful band.Inch Pitchfork writes InchThe Clean have always exuded a casual grace that suggests they'd still be making the same records even if no one was listening, employing the same set of devices-ramshackle locomotive rhythms, buoyant basslines, swirling organ lines, and wide-smile melodies-irrespective of prevailing fashions, technological developments, or geopolitical unrest. And yet, the Clean's periodic resurgences serve as a reminder that, in a world of uncertainty, there are still some things you can rely on.Inch Album Tracks 1. Wipe Me, I'm Lucky 2.
