About this product

SOMM RECORDINGS is pleased to announce the return of pianist Clélia Iruzun and the tag debut of violinist Anthony Flint with Treasures from the New World, Volume 2, a revelatory compendium of sonatas and duets by five Brazilian composers who defined the sound and soul of modern Latin American music. A champion of music from her homeland on earlier recordings for SOMM, Rio de Janeiro-born Iruzun returns to Henrique Oswald (also Rioborn) with his four-movement Violin Sonata in E major of 1908. Lightly laced with late-Brahmsian accents, it's a work of striking contrasts, a brief Intermezzo and extended slow interlude framed by an opening movement of vivacious lyricism and an energetic, optimistic, fiery finale. Leopoldo Miguez's Violin Sonata in A major (1885) boasts similar lyrical richness while balancing evocative, nocturnal beauty, brisk confidence and a bracing sense of instrumental ensemble. Completing the disc are the melodious Poema (2002) by Marlos Nobre, one of Brazil's most exciting contemporary composers, Souza Lima's duet arrangement of Alexandre Levy's Tango Brasileiro, and the haunting early miniature Romanza (1917) that prepared the ground for a later trio of substantial sonatas by Francisco Mignone, a mentor and close friend of Iruzun's since her childhood. Album Tracks 1. Violin Sonata in E major, Op.36~Allegro moderato 2. Violin Sonata in E major, Op.36~Allegretto molto moderato 3. Violin Sonata in E major, Op.36~Andante molto espressivo 4. Violin Sonata in E major, Op.36~Allegro con fuoco 5. Romanza for Violin and Piano 6. Violin Sonata in A major, Op.14~Allegro 7. Violin Sonata in A major, Op.14~Andante espressivo 8. Violin Sonata in A major, Op.14~Scherzo, Presto non molto 9. Violin Sonata in A major, Op.14~Vivace 10. Poema, Op.94 No.1 11. Tango Brasileiro

Camp Cope - Live at Sydney Opera House - Blue - VINYL LP

On October 13, 2023, Melbourne's own Camp Cope bid farewell with one final performance in front of an adoring, sold-out crowd at the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. Two years later, Run For Cover & Poison City Records have released The Final Show - Live at Sydney Opera House to commemorate this special moment of the band performing live for the last time. The vinyl version of this features nine songs from the final performance, including tracks from each of the band's adored albums. This includes songs like InchLost (Season One)Inch from their self-titled debut, along with tracks from 2018's How to Socialise Make Friends and their 2022 swan song Running with the Hurricane. All of the pieces that make Camp Cope's music so special are here - bass player Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich & Sarah Thompson's drums once again fit perfectly together, with guitarist Jennifer Aslett providing even more moods behind vocalist Georgia Maq's signature voice. The band isn't alone, either - Julia Jacklin joins in on InchThe Screaming PlanetInch and a chorus of friends like Rin McArdle and Courtney Hartmann join in to sing-along on InchSing Your Heart OutInch Camp Cope fittingly closes this final performance with InchThe OpenerInch - a song inspired by the unfortunate experience of being a band trying to fit into a sexist, male-dominated music scene. Hellmrich's unmistakable bass line opens this final, expanded version of the song, which the band plays for over ten minutes. Joined by a chorus of friends on stage and an entire opera house filled with fans singing along, the song's final lyrics about being initially dismissed feel like a prophecy fulfilled - Inchsee how far we've come not listening to you.Inch Album Tracks 1. Done (Live at Sydney Opera House) 2. Blue (Live at Sydney Opera House) 3. Jet Fuel Can't Melt Steel Beams (Live at Sydney Opera House) 4. The Screaming P
