Frankie Stein and His Ghouls - The Complete Ghoul-lection - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Do hearses and hot rods go together? Well, they sure do in the fevered mind of famed producer Gary Usher! Usher made his bones penning songs for the Beach Boys (he co-wrote InchIn My RoomInch with Brian Wilson) and producing a band you might have heard of called The Byrds. In between those celebrated stints, he indulged his love of surf and hot rod music with a series of albums by such studio outfits as The Hondells, Mr. Gasser and the Weirdos (featuring album art by custom car painter Ed InchBig DaddyInch Roth), The Kickstands, and The Super Stocks. But the one album from the Usher oeuvre that everybody's been wanting to rescue from the vinyl crematorium is his frightfully funny 1964 foray into horror rock, Dracula's Deuce. In the hands of Usher and his crack outfit of Capitol studio musicians (The Ghouls a.k.a. The Wrecking Crew) and long-time collaborators like vocalist Ritchie Burns, InchThe Little Old Lady from PasadenaInch became InchThe Little Old Lady from Transylvania,Inch InchJohnny B. GoodeInch became InchBela Be Good,Inch and InchBe True to Your SchoolInch became, you guessed it, InchBe True to Your Ghoul.Inch But for our money, the originals, composed by Usher, Richie Podolor, and Roger Christian among others, are the main attraction, including the creepy exotica of InchDracula's ThemeInch and the surreal InchMonsterbilly Heaven.Inch Original copies of this one command monstrous sums (we should know, we sprung for one), and it's NEVER been reissued in any until this orange Inchpumpkin burnoutInch smoke vinyl edition that we at Real Gone Music are releasing for Halloween this year. German pianist Elly Ney (1882-1968) came to be regarded as one of the great Beethoven interpreters of the 20th century and her prewar recording of the Op 111 sonata must still be considered one of the very finest. That recording, and all the other solo and concerto recordings she made for Electrola before the war are included here. Particularly noteworthy are the three landmark concerto recordings, the Mozart and Beethoven vivacious and stylish, the Strauss revealing just what a virtuoso Ney could be. Though she specialized in Austro-German repertoire, another side to her art is shown in her early, almost unknown, American Brunswick acoustic recordings, reissued in this set for the first time. Here the repertoire choice is broader and lighter and there is even a stunningly articulated Debussy 'Feux d'artifice' - the work's first recording. Album Tracks 1.
