The barometric altimeter provides real-time elevation, vertical speed, total ascent/descent, and floors climbed — essential for trail runners and hilly training routes. Open water swimming adds GPS-tracked distance, pace, and stroke data beyond pool-only tracking. Power meter compatibility (ANT+/Bluetooth, including Garmin Vector and Rally), Garmin Cycling Coach adaptive training plans, and smart trainer control make the 170 Music a genuine multi-sport platform.
