The base has two adapters to match with 1.5''-1.9'' poles and 7.5 ft-11 ft patio umbrella, and you can keep the pole firmly in place with the hand-turn knob. The drainage holes at the bottom prevent excessive water accumulation from affecting the free breathing of plant roots.
