Harison HR-B8 Luxury Recumbent Bike Review Conclusion: Buy it. (There. I saved you a lot of time.) Buyer’s Note: Customer Service is excellent and Attentive. I don’t know much about recumbent bikes. I wanted a heavy flywheel because I assumed a heavy flywheel might indicate a high top level resistance. I had another bike in mind but it turned out to be out of production and I couldn’t find it. The next heaviest flywheel I could find was on the Harison HR-B8. Happy thing as I also had store credit at Best Buy. I received the Luxury HR-B8. I think mine was manufactured in 2024 (due to its serial number). There are two other versions of the HR-B8, the ‘Eco’ and the ‘Tech’. I recommend the Eco over the ‘Luxury’ or Tech models, because it is the only one that is compatible with Harison’s phone app. Harison’s app doesn’t require paying for a subscription. The other models work with Zxift, Kinomap, and Spax. If you don’t mind paying for a subscription, or like me don’t require an app, then any HR-B8 is fine, but probably better with an app as the computer is the HR-B8’s weakest point. The box is heavy, about 100 pounds. Unboxing was uneventful. There is very little Styrofoam to break and invade your living space. Assembly took quite awhile, but I actually enjoyed it because I marveled at how easy it was and wondered why all such projects aren’t as well designed and prepared for home assembly. Much of the hardware is already attached where it will go. The remaining bits of hardware are sealed onto a single cardboard sheet, clearly marked by which step requires which group of nuts and bolts. I assembled the bike by myself without needing to watch a video. This is a far cry from other brands if the Internet is to be believed. The ride is incredibly smooth and quiet. It is better than the professional models I have used in various apartment and condo buildings. I have no criticisms of the ride; it is perfect; couldn’t be happier. Resistance levels are just difficult enough for my present purposes and physical condition. Adjusting the resistance level could be better. The knob is stiff turn and the positions, 1-14, are close together. The 14 levels were another reason I chose the HR-B8. I wanted a high number of settings for greater adjustability. The seat is beautiful! I found it uncomfortable for my bony butt. Others may not have this problem. This was resolved by adding a throw pillow. The seat is so wide that the pillow is extremely stable. I love the seat. The seat back is beautiful and comfortable. It seems to be lifted directly off an ergonomic office chair. It has a mesh back. I haven’t noticed any sweat building up back there despite having sweat while using the bike. I can’t imagine a better seat back. The tablet/water bottle holder is too far away and too high for me. But, it doesn’t matter as I removed mine. Being for home use, it isn’t needed. I put my water, tissues, and phone on a stool I place next to the bike. Pass-through design makes the over bed/chair table or tray idea inviting. My mother is 95, uses a cane or a rolator. She had no trouble at all getting onto the HR-B8. The pulse sensing handle bars are not adjustable.: Some might wish they were due to one’s height or arm length. They are fine for me, at 5’8” with longish arms. The pulse can’t be sensed from grabbing with just one hand. This may be is true of all or most such pulse sensing systems. The computer is adequate. Many people will overcome it’s shortcomings by using an app. So, I will limit my criticisms to: the battery compartment, the lack of an on-off switch, and that the screen can be difficult to read. The computer switches off after 4 minutes of non-use. The delay is nice for writing down a session’s data. But, it bugs me that the computer stays on for so long. There is no power switch. So, I pull the batteries. The battery compartment door is difficult to put back in place. Removing the batteries is difficult. I glued a piece of ribbon to drape behind the batteries. Tugging the ribbon removes the batteries and works well. The seat adjusting handle is difficult to reach while seated on the bike. There are no notches to quickly find one’s preferred position. The advantage to the system is infinite adjustability along the supporting rail. The lack of set positions can probably be overcome with the use of a felt tip marker. I think the HR-B8 is beautiful. It doesn’t detract at all from my living area. It is not overly large. Without the tablet holder, it looks even better. I absolutely love my HR-B8. My few minor complaints are minor. It has everything I was looking for: high enough resistance, smooth and quiet operation, pass-through entry, pulse sensing, basic data display, and is inexpensive. It exceeded my expectations in ease of assembly. I have put in 71 hours on the bike and am thoroughly thrilled by it. Would buy again in a heartbeat.
