This is a mixed bag review. On the one hand this Hisense 55H9 PLUS is miles ahead of the 55" 4K Ultra TV I purchased just two years ago, in terms of picture quality. But there are things I'm not fond of and there are things I am fond of. First the good things. Out of the box, the picture is truly stunning. The look of the screen is high end and I love the barely there bezel around the TV. It's hard to imagine for this kind of money, this much TV can be easily purchased. I paid a LOT more money and didn't get High Dynamic Range, just two years ago. But that's often the case as the higher end options find their way into the more affordable units fairly quickly. The TV offers what they call Local Dimming, to provide better contrast for whiter whites and darker blacks. It really does provide rich deep colors and I find the contrast stunning. Especially for a TV at this price. You get 4 HDMI inputs and they're High-Speed, to boot. But if you have an older generation DVD player that still uses Component Video outputs, you'll need to buy a Component Video to HDMI conversion cable. Set up was a breeze. It connected to my 5ghz Wifi router instantly. I use a Yamaha Receiver and Bowers and Wilkins Speakers with a Subwoofer as opposed to the internal speakers, but I did give the internal Harmon Kardon audio system a go and it was remarkably good for built in speakers. If you don't want to run this through a sound system or add a sound bar for surround sound, you'd be just fine. Actually, more than just fine. In settings, I could not find a way to turn off the internal speakers permanently. But then there's a mute button on the remote and when I muted the TV, it let me listen through my sound system alone, which is what I wanted. You have the complement of Google Assistant as well as Android TV with voice control with this TV. That's great if you're a Google/Android user. But fear not, even if you aren't this TV is more than worth the price of admission as a 4K Ultra HDR TV on its own. And you get Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and Pandora, just to name a few already installed apps waiting for you. But you can add apps if you need more. The motion rate for this TV is 240. Again, that's very fast for a TV at this price point and should make game day or video games in general work well. There are motion controls, which to be honest didn't really do much, so I found the best picture was without them. Which is great. Who wants to fiddle with settings like that anyway? All in all, the good things are actually VERY good. Now the not so good. The remote isn't particularly good. Not that it doesn't work, it's just so basic and feels pretty cheap. In contrast to the TV, which feels anything but cheap. Next and for me and this was a BIG deal. I am using this in my Master Bedroom, and it replaced a first generation 40" Samsung 720P HD (very early HD) TV. I already had a nice TV stand to hold all my electronics and the TV. But the legs on this TV, while metal and seem to be high quality are placed so far out to the very edges of the TV that you MUST have a surface (unless you are mounting this on a wall) no less than 49 inches wide. My other 55" 4K Ultra TV has a stand in the center of the TV, making it far far easier to place on a surface. I had to buy a new piece of furniture to put this on and while it was 49" wide, it tapers in making it impossible for both legs to sit on the new stand. I wound up having to get another piece of glass to sit on the new stands top glass piece just so the TV wouldn't fall over. Why oh Why Hisense, would you make this otherwise great TV so bloody difficult to place on a TV stand? This TV is able to connect to Bluetooth devices. I was really excited about that as there are times I want to watch TV and listen through headphones. Yes, the TV does have a 3.5mm headphone jack in the back of the TV, but I switched over to Bluetooth headphones long ago. So I figured it would be a snap to pair some Bluetooth headphones. Well, it was easy to pair them. But I've tried two different brands and neither worked well. The sound kept breaking up and that was close to the TV. My viewing position is about 15 feet from the TV. Bluetooth headphones, even ones not costing an arm and a leg, typically have a usable range of around 30 feet. 15 feet from the TV, no Bluetooth headphone I've paired works at all. This is a major disappointment to me, to be honest. The other thing and this is actually a small nit, is where the power cord plugs into the TV. It plugs in at the very far outer edge on the back of the TV. So what, you might wonder? Well, it means the power chord basically dangles down the right side of the TV (if you're facing the TV). There's just no reason they couldn't have put the power cord in a more discreet location. Again, it's a nit, but it's almost as if someone said, hey put it here and no one bothered to look at one actually plugged in after putting it there. The HDMI connection ports are on the other hand placed conveniently, where the cables are out of view. So there you have the good and the not as good. Overall, I still have a difficult time believing one can get this much TV for so little money. 10 years ago, this puppy would have sold for multiple thousands of dollars, yet you can get all this goodness for not even close to a $1000. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great TV, one that is easy to set up and one that won't break the bank. They did a really good job with this, but the nits I highlight are ones I hope they'll think about for future products.

If you need a great picture this is the best with only exception of OLED. Sound is great out of the 4 speakers. Two down firing and two rear firing mini subs. The aesthetics are beautiful and modern. Silver and brushed metals adorn the chassis very tastefully. You would be very hard pressed to find a more beautiful TV. Wow I love this TV with a few exceptions. There is no Browser!!! How can that be. It is after all an Android so Chrome is included right? Wrong! So side load it right? OK for some reason it is blocked. WHAT??? Yes you can not load or buy any browsers unlike Fire OS which is Firefox friendly. Aside that there is no way to watch Amazon Prime. I don't get it. The quirkiest this overall is the remote and the newly useless preset hot buttons which two of the six buttons are useful. The voice assistant button and the home button are stacked against the navigation buttons and are frequently accidentally pressed. It has become such an annoyance I decided to ditch the remote and buy a Cube. I wish I would have never needed to do that but after months of misconceived hardware that I could never get used to it alleviated all of the frustration of the poorly laid out remote and the anemic power of Android TV.

My 1st purchase of a Hisense tv. Admittedly impress for the amount of tech into such a low price TV. The Harmon kardon speaker sound quality is way better than TV sets way more expensive than this one. When it comes to the picture well that depends on what you are looking for. Overall after setting up the picture settings correctly the picture quality is very impressive for the price. Don’t buy this tv if you are trying to compare it to high end televisions. Compare it to other low budget high tech TV sets. It has its limits when it comes to picture quality but I have to admited for the price folks, the price. The picture quality is good. Built quality is nice. Looks really nice turned off. The bugs on the android tv platform suck. Very buggy. Nothing that will make it a dealbreaker but there are bugs in the software. Menu scheme not the best. 4K looks great, HD content is ok. Overall like I said for the price. It’s worth it. One last thing. Alexa and google assistant are still too limited on what they can do to assist with this particular TV. Wish they did more!

I’ve owned a smart tv before, which I loved, but unfortunately broke. So, I wanted to upgrade to a 4k and 50 plus inch tv and I decided to give this one a try… Pros: The size is big and beautiful. And the screen itself is really thin, which I loved! Setup of this 55" tv was straightforward and easy. You do get a basic instruction guide, but if you want anything more you need to go online. Connecting to my wi-fi was easy and it has been holding a solid connection so far. Strangely, mine came with a Hisense username on it, so when setup was finished, I just went into settings, removed the Hisense username and put in my own Google account. Connections. Four HDMI ports, optical out, component in, 3.5 headphone out, and even USB. Pretty much all you will need. Great sound! The speakers on this tv can get really loud! The sound is pretty solid for default speaker. I am really impressed! And we were impressed with the picture quality too. The picture is vivid and clear. Is great from any viewing angle. Tv is somehow easy to navigate… There are quick access app buttons that allow you to immediately watch Netflix, Sling, Google Play… I’ve used Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, ESPN… But unfortunately, there’s no Amazon Prime Video. Another nice perk is the built-in Chromecast which allows for streaming directly from your mobile devices. While I can appreciate voice controls being implemented into today’s technology, I don't see myself really using that… Cons: The remote control for this H9 Plus is not very sturdy, and my husband is kind of heavy handed. This made setup more difficult for him, entering user names and passwords would lead him to press the wrong navigation button and he had to start all over. I have smaller hands and more patience, but I felt his pain. Also, it does not have the traditional number pads and I do wish the Home key was more prominently placed on the remote. Another issue that showed up was that sometimes the tv just restarts automatically and enters into safe mode. Mouth drop, if you know what I mean. Overall, If you are looking to buy a big tv that can connect apps and don’t want to spend a lot of money than this may be the one for you.

Review: Hisense 55H9EPLUS There is nothing fancy about this TV. It is a straight forward budget TV that has a sharp, colorful, and excellent display. If you are looking to save some money and still get a great TV than this one is for you. PICTURE: After a couple days of watching Netflix, YouTube, and 1080P cable programming I was impressed at the picture quality and colors of the TV. This is replacing an old 2008 Panasonic Plasma that still has great picture and excels in dark scenes. I can tell you this HISENSE blows away that plasma (it should). As with any tv the better the source the better the picture and this tv shines when watching 4K content. Says to be a native 120Hz panel but all my content is in 60Hz and still looked amazing. Folks at "rtings.com" have reviewed this tv back in August so if you want tech specs I suggest you go see what they have to say. But as a normal tv viewer I was impressed. SOUND: The sound from the exposed speakers in the back sound great. Mostly treble and very little bass if any. Show dialogue sounded great. TV gets very loud without sounding bad. Fortunately there is an optical out that I connected to my receiver to take advantage of my ceiling speakers. DESIGN: I truly do not like the feet (mounts) that connect to the tv. The base support makes the tv wobbly. You don't want anyone bumping your entertainment console. I highly suggest wall mounting. Bezel is very thin. This 55" takes up less space than my old 50" plasma. REMOTE: The remote is basic. Does everything you need with a couple of buttons. The thing that makes it a terrible design is no illuminated keys. I find myself illuminating the remote with my cell phone. Very bad decision by Hisense to not include backlit remote. SMART: You get Google, Sling, Netflix, Showtime, YouTube, etc on this tv. So if are wanting to cut the cord all the apps are there for you. I was very happy that transition between apps was great. No lag of freezing up. Very smooth operations. First time setup you have to agree to Google terms and conditions. Pretty basic and if you have an android phone setup is very similar. You can also use any google account you want. With the Google store you can also download VUDU and other video apps. WHAT I FOUND NEEDED IMPROVEMENT: - I didn't like the motion improvement features. I turned off 3 of the motion controls. Made football choppy. Once turned off everything looked great. NBA games looked fantastic once turned off. - There noticeable light change when going off angle viewing. Visible outside of 140 degrees viewing. It is small drop. - black bezel and silver feet. Just home decorator in me. But silver feet base bad design. At least they are labeled left and right on base and on the tv. - I couldn't setup the tv without internet. I looked through manual and didn't see a bypass. I tried skip but kept being brought back to beginning. Will look into that. maybe a mistake on my side. Other Thoughts: I found my screen to be straight. "rtings" found theirs to be bent. Towards the top half it appears very fragile as it is pretty much glass with very little frame. So be careful during unboxing. Packaging was great. This looks to have passive cooling so no noise from tv. You get a lot of TV for very little.
