![Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/f6be32c5-32d7-4c42-9bb9-b2c3bc634d39.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
From the moment she began writing her new album, Japanese Breakfast's Michelle Zauner knew that she wanted to call it Jubilee. After all, a jubilee is a celebration of the passage of time-a festival to usher in the hope of a new era in brilliant technicolor. Zauner's first two albums garnered acclaim for the way they grappled with anguish; Psychopomp was written as her mother underwent cancer treatment, while Soft Sounds From Another Planet took the grief she held from her mother's death and used it as a conduit to explore the cosmos. Now, at the start of a new decade, Japanese Breakfast is ready to fight for happiness, an all-too-scarce resource in our seemingly crumbling world. Jubilee finds Michelle Zauner embracing ambition and, with it, her boldest ideas and songs yet. Inspired by records like Bjork's Homogenic, Zauner delivers bigness throughout - big ideas, big textures, colors, sounds and feelings. At a time when virtually everything feels extreme, Jubilee sets it's sights on maximal joy, imagination, and exhilaration. It is, in Michelle Zauner's words, Incha record about fighting to feel. I wanted to re-experience the pure, unadulterated joy of creation... The songs are about recalling the optimism of youth and applying it to adulthood. They're about making difficult choices, fighting ignominious impulses and honoring commitments, confronting the constant struggle we have with ourselves to be better people.Inch Throughout Jubilee, Zauner pours her own life into the universe of each song to tell real stories, and allowing those universes, in turn, to fill in the details. Joy, change, evolution-these things take real time, and real effort. And Japanese Breakfast is here for it. Album Tracks 1. Paprika 2. Be Sweet 3. Kokomo, in 4. Slide Tackle 5. Posing in Bondage 6. Sit 7. Savage Good Boy 8. In Hell 9. Tactics 10. Posing for Cars
![Iris DeMent - Infamous Angel - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/9df751fa-2f44-42c4-a646-3227c9b573a1.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Iris DeMent released Infamous Angel in 1992. Nearly 30 years later, the album remains among the most singular and fully realized singer-songwriter debuts since the invention of that category in the early '70s. The abiding strengths of the album are especially impressive ' even a bit startling ' because 1992 is not a moment usually associated with her intimate brand of acoustic country music. In country history, the year 1992 is most immediately affiliated with Garth Brooks, whose album, The Chase, topped both the country and pop album charts that year, and with Billy Ray Cyrus Achy Breaky Heart,' which fueled a line dance craze. Squeezed into a playlist alongside such hits, DeMent's doleful, hushed 'Our Town' would've sounded as if it were being broadcast from another planet. 'People call me country,' she told journalist Ben Thompson while on tour in Britain a couple years later. 'But country doesn't call me country.' Let's call her country. The genre is always more expansive than what radio stations program. It happened Infamous Angel is close kin to a different sort of country music that was just then having a moment specifically, country singer-songwriters, focusing on personal, but universal, loss and hope and favoring small acoustic combos. It may have been out of step with the mainstream, but Infamous Angel arrived right on time. Album Tracks 1. Let the Mystery Be 2. These Hills 3. Hotter Than Mojave in My Heart 4. When Love Was Young 5. Our Town 6. Fifty Miles of Elbow Room 7. Infamous Angel 8. Sweet Forgiveness 9. After You're Gone 10. Mama's Opry 11. Higher Ground
