About this product
Brand new album from Colorado's freewheelin' melodist Josephine Foster. Revolving between her adopted Spain and her native American West, Josephine was stationed this spring in Nashville with maverick guitarist and comrade-in-arms Matthew Schneider. The result 'No Harm Done', a spacious and enveloping love letter of an album. Eight new slow-burning songs branch forth from idiosyncratic country folk blues, sung with sibylline wit and a hint of the absurd, awash in sensually anachronic lyricism. InchThe Wheel of FortuneInch, nearly a title track by virtue of it's refrain 'No harm will come/if there's no harm done', are words of a homebound wanderer finding refuge in healing stillness with her beloved, having 'time to kill' in the midst of 'hard times to feel at home'. All delivered with calm sagacity upon the pedestal of Mr. Schneider's pedal steel and underscored by a knowing trebled chorus in Foster's lower register. Phenomenal '60s garage from Minnesota's Gestures!Along with a few other Twin Cities chart toppers, The Gestures' InchRun, Run, RunInch became a national hit and even earned a spot on Kaye's legendary Nuggets compilation in 1972. Full of shimmering guitars, opulent harmonies, and good ol' rock 'n' roll, the band was limited to a handful of singles before going their separate ways. Here you'll find a full LP's worth of Gestures on vinyl, all killer no filler! In California, the Gestures were especially well-received, maybe because InchRun, Run, RunInch had the lightness, the hook, and infectious drive of the California surf and car band hits. Record World's hot picks column called it a surf-like sound that should endear them to teens. The slice is a hard-driving ditty. Cash Box said the Gestures bow was a hard-rock- ing, Liverpool-sounding affair... powerhouse instrumental support on this haunting entry. There's a complete change of pace in the soft-sounding uptempo undercut.Inch'Run, Run, Run' hit #1 in the Twin Cities, #3 in Los Angeles, #1 in New York and #3-5 in Oklahoma City. It reached the top of the local C&N Sales jukebox charts, cracked Billboard Magazine's top 40, and as I mentioned before, was even played on Bandstand. It was right up there with records by the Hondells, Gene Pitney, Jay & the Americans, and all the early British bands - including the Beatles.Inch- Dale Menton (of The Gestures)1. Hi-Heel Sneakers2. Faith and Fate, Destiny and Devotion, Dark Nights and Dazed Illuminations. Josephine raises a stained-glass lamp and shepherds us spelunking the depths of spirit in this four-part double album. Following the fame of her voice are choruses of winged entities (and a space shuttle) that ascend and descend a maze of spirituals ritual prayers, blues laments, vestal hymns and jubilant benedictions.1 Soothsayer Song 2 A Little Song 3 The Virgin of the Snow 4 Pearl in Oyster 5 Benevolent Spring 6 Force Divine 7 All Pales Next to You 8 Lord of Love 9 Eternity 10 Indian Burn 11 Peak of Paradise 12 Adieu Color Adieu 13 Pining Away 14 Challenger 15 I Was Glad 16 Shepherd Moon of Starry Height 17 Little Lamb 18 Faithful Fairy Harmony Album Tracks 1. A beautifully observed baroque masterpiece, part dream pop, part futuristic psych-folk with ambient synths and Josephine Foster's plaintive guitar. Godmother is a slowly unfolding song cycle that marries a myriad of previous musical escapades with electronic experiments.Exploring new horizons on this record, it sees Foster at her most expressive and hypnotic. Now back home in the mountains of Colorado, Josephine's 20-year journey to this new nirvana becomes enthralled further with a symphony of synths that sound like they are played in some neighbouring netherworld, through cotton gauze. It's music that's devotional, spiritual, a fitting soundtrack for any journey within or without, a means to experience places and vibrations beyond the boundary of time and space.Discussing the record, Josephine explains InchYou may notice me travelling a bit further sonically from our precious earth, aspiring to rise into broader astral perspective, to contemplate the light and origins of it all, as I do believe there is a grand source that is the sum of it all, us all. Performing all the parts on this recording, you may sense me focussing gestures of my singing into the instrumentation, which is a very great relief indeed, as the voice has such grand dreams to be set free.InchInchWith her haunted, theatrical delivery, Foster cuts an arresting figure.Inch PitchforkInchOut of time yet timelessInch The Wire1 Hum Menina2 Sparks Fly3 Guardian Angel4 Old Teardrop5 Flask of Wine6 Gold Entwine7 Dali Rama8 Nun of the Above9 The Sum of Us All Album Tracks 1.
