About this product
Joshua Hedley is 'a singing professor of country & western,' he declares on his raucous and witty new album, Neon Blue. It might sound like a punchline, but it's not. An ace fiddle player, a sharp guitarist, and a singer with a granite twang, he's devoted his entire life to the study of this genre. His previous records have showcased his deep knowledge of country musics history, in particular the beery ballads of the 1950s and '60s. Neon Blue, on the other hand, examines a very different, often forsaken era the early 1990s. Neon Blue asks, What if that fork had never happened? What if country kept on sounding like country?' Hedley finds something exciting in that old hat-act sound, and Neon Blue plays up the excitement of bigger-than-life choruses, the relatable emotions of those sad-eyed ballads, and the inventiveness of the lively production. Album Tracks 1. Broke Again 2. Country & Western 3. Old Heartbroke Blues 4. The Last Thing in the World 5. Down to My Last Lie 6. Free (One Heart) 7. Neon Blue 8. Bury Me with My Boots on 9. Found in a Bar 10. Let's Make a Memory 11. Wonder If You Wonder 12. River in the Rain

American Record Guide The one-on-a-part performances here are stunningly beautiful. Dionysos Now is clearly a first-class male-voice a cappella ensemble with excellent vocal blend and coherent delivery. The ensemble includes 2 basses and a bass-baritone. This combination adds a sumptuous gravity to the words of Jesus and to the 6-part crowd choruses.
This album is my pièce de resistance,Inch says Joshua Hedley of All Hat, his lively new collection of Western Swing tunes. InchIt's all been building up to this moment. I feel like I'm making music I love more than any other style.Inch Produced by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel-Hedley's hero since childhood-the album brims with excitement, wit, and verve, as Hedley expertly navigates the tricky dance rhythms of this jazzy style of twang. It's a sharp left turn in a career defined by sharp left turns, following close on the heels of his 2018 debut Mr. Jukebox, which explored '60s countrypolitan and established him as one of the finest old-school country crooners in all of Nashville. Released in 2022, Neon Blue jumped ahead a few decades as Hedley turned his attention to that much-maligned period in country music the early '90s, when a new wave of singing cowboy took their twang into rock arenas. All Hat doesn't try to update the style, because Hedley understands that it doesn't need any kind of modernizing. It can sound as immediate and urgent and just plain fun now as it ever did. And he hopes folks will get up and dance. InchAt it's core Western Swing is just dance music. Bob Wills didn't play theatres; he played dance halls. The music is for dancing, and that's what I wanted to come through on these songs. I just want to show people how big a genre country music is and how deep it goes. There's such a diversity of sounds in country music. It's not just one little box that everything fits into. Album Tracks 1. Come Take a Ride with Me 2. Boogie Woogie Tennessee 3. Fresh Hot Biscuits 4. Mean Mama Blues 5. All Hat (No Cattle) 6. Stuck in Texas (Feat. Ray Benson) 7. Clueless 8. The Waltz I Promised to You 9. Hedliner Polka 10. Crawlin' Home to You 11. Over the Line
After the Pacific Northwest grunge raids of the early '90s that saw Nirvana, Mudhoney, and even the Melvins hoisted up the major tag flagpole, Unwound's 1993 debut came as a welcomed reprieve for underground noise-niks everywhere. A pulsing cluster of wiry feedback, lurching bass, and single stroke rolls, Fake Train entangles the energies of frustrated backpack emo, faded Riot Grrrl back issues, and their own dash of teen spirit and unleashes it all in an earsplitting 10-song assault. Album Tracks 1. Dragnalus 2. Lucky Acid 3. Nervous Energy 4. Valentine Card 5. Kantina 6. Were, Are and Was or Is 7. Honourosis 8. Pure Pain Sugar 9. Gravity Slips 10. Star Spangled Hell 11. Ratbite 12. Feeling$ Real
