Q: how big of a tv can swivel 90 degrees with out hitting the wall

A: Aheb, You don't have to mount it upside down to achieve what you'd like to do. When you retract the mount you can place the arm so that the offset is on the left side or the right side. If you have any other questions, click the support button on our website to get in touch with us directly.
Q: Does this mount to a single stud, vertical. Or can it be mounted sideways connecting two studs.

A: Yes, I believe mount will work with your TV but please verify your VESA. I looked online for your TV specs and it appears to be 200x200 and then verified on the mount box that it is 200x200 compatible. Note to Best Buy - you do not have this (200x200) VESA compliant listed under product features currently so you may want to update that.
Q: Will this mount fit a Samsung 40" Smart TV having model # UN40J5200AF?
