- Description: Gatefold 180-gram black vinyl. Kurtis Walker - better known by his stage name Kurtis Blow - was the first rapper and hip/hop artist to be signed to US major record tag Mercury in 1979. His first single InchChristmas RappinInch became an instant classic selling nearly half a million copies on 12-inch. The follow-up single InchThe BreaksInch sold more than a million copies, making it the very first rap single to be certified Gold. Kurtis Blow's self-titled debut album was released in 1980 and due to the success, he performed in Europe and Japan spreading the new hip hop sound all over the world. During his career, Kurtis Blow has released a total of fifteen albums and a slew of solo singles such as InchThroughout Your YearsInch, InchHard TimesInch and InchToughInch. The tracks InchAmericaInch, InchIf I Ruled The WorldInch (which was later sampled by The Fugees and Nas) and InchBasketballInch further cemented his hip hop leg- end. Next to his solo work, he also as collaborated with The Fat Boys, Run D.M.C., Sheila E. on InchKrush Groovin'Inch from the 1985 influential hip hop movie Krush Groove, René and Angela's InchSave Your Love (For #1)Inch, and InchFunky StuffInch together with 2024 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Kool & The Gang. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
