A: By all accounts it should be able to. But it runs slowly for a PC of this caliber. I use it for Octave (Linux version of Matlab).

A: Price is a function of the configuration of the device. The processor amount of RAM, size of hard drive, resolution of the screen etc. The ThinkPad Series is also made for business so it includes special, business related software and hardware that are not included on the consumer Lenovo models.
