I love these earbuds. Outstanding sound and seamless integration with all my devices, specifically Google and LG smart home. If it's not Google in my home, it's probably LG. Quality, long battery life and super comfortable. My only issue is I thought I read somewhere you can charge the case and while wearing the earbuds they'll also wirelessly charge but that's not the case. Not a big deal but just realized it the other day. Sure would be handy.

This was my first time testing out LG TONE FREE T90Q earbuds and I must say that I was blown away. The audio, features, and design just simply left me speechless. The audio quality paired with the Meridian experience is just simply amazing. So, let’s go over the features of the new LG TONEFREE T90Q earbuds. UNBOXING AND SETUP: One thing I was not impressed with was the packaging. I understand that LG is trying to be ecofriendly with it, but it leaves much to be desired. But don’t let the packaging fool you, under the package is where you will find an amazing audio experience. Also included in the box you will find extra ear gels, USB C to AUX, UVnano Charging Case and USB Charging cable. The setup process for the T90Q was simple. I paired the T90Q with my Google Pixel 7 Pro without any issues. Simply open the case and the phone was immediately able to pickup the earbuds and help set them up and prompted to download LG Tone free app and I highly recommend that you download the app for an amazing audio experience. The application gives you a variety of options such the Equalizer settings, Control Ambient sound and ANC, TONE Free LAB, Touchpad settings, and much more. Features: Audio Experience: The quality of audio of these earbuds combined with Meridian Clear and Spatial sound truly makes listening to your favorite music a euphonious experience. The audio quality was crisp, clean, and clear with some punchy bass. For how small these earbuds are they really do pack a punch. To make your audio experience more enjoyable there are preset Equalizer settings set by Meridian such as Immersive, Natural, Bass Boost, Treble Boost, and 3D Sound Stage. My favorite out of all those are the Bass Boost and the 3D Sound Stage. The 3D Sound Stage gives your music that surround sound feel and the Bass Boost will put little sub woofers in your ears. The T90Q also supports Dolby Atmos Audio and along with Dolby Atmos audio you have Dolby Head Tracking and Virtual Sound, which works remarkably well. This feature will put you in the center of your musical experience, basically makes it seem like having your own private concert. The Dolby Head Tracking identifies the location of your audio and recalibrates as you move your head to always keep you in the center of your audio. I have tested out this feature on other earbuds as well, but they did not sound this good. Adaptive ANC – The adaptive ANC will only on these ear buds is not bad at all. The ANC only works well if you have the correct fitting and the ear gels pretty much seal the ear canal. There is a fit test that you can conduct within the application which pretty much plays a sound and the microphones on the outside of the earbuds try to pick up the audio. If the microphone does not pick up the audio then you have a good seal. I conducted the test and I had to change out to larger ear gels. There are also different modes for the ANC as well such as ambient sounds and conversation mode. Clear Voice Calling -No issues there either. The call clarity was perfect on both ends. Multi-point and Multi-connection – The ability to connect to multiple devices simultaneously. I was able to connect the earbuds to my TV and my phone and whichever I wanted to use I just played the audio on that device. The Case – The case was my personal favorite for these earbuds. Not only does the case charge the earbuds it also sanitizes them when they are in the case with UV-C light. The case also provides up to 27 hours of charging for the buds, the case supports wireless charging itself and can be used as a transmitter for an audio jack device. How cool is that. You can use your earbuds anywhere and pretty much with any device. Simply connect the provided USB-C to audio jack cable to any device that supports it such as in an airplane, slide the switch to the audio jack position on the case and you’re done. The case itself is very compact and easily able to fit in your pockets without awkward angles poking you. FIT and Usage – These ear buds with the provided ear gels are comfortable to ear for extended period. I was able to comfortably wear the earbuds for about 6 hours while working out and running errands. The ear buds do have touch controls and can be set to your personal preference. The buds are rated for IPX4 sweat and water resistance. Overall, as I had mentioned before this was my first time testing out LG earbuds and I love them. They sound great, fit great, compact and with tons of great features. I travel a lot so I love that I can take these with me anywhere even on an airplane and even use them there. I love these earbuds and if you are in the market would definitely recommend that you give these a shot.

LG - TONE Free T90Q What the LG does well, it does really really well. I love surround music (I know!!) and I’ve never heard it done better. Apple’s Spatial Surround is mesmerizing across a range of music types. Sound control, App features and overall sound is sublime, most of the time. But then there’s the touch controls (frustrating to me) and noise reduction (clumsy implementation) which is a distraction and misguided. Depending on your interests, the frustration vs. performance calculation will make these a keeper or keep you looking. I love the sound enough that I will keep them, and hope LG can correct some issues. Let’s discuss. SETUP: Instant Bluetooth (the latest 5.3 version*) connection. Both earbuds are playing music. Zero fuss. There is an App, and, on an iPhone 12, it enables a significant amount of control that became a neccessity for me, as I’ll explain below. [ BT 5.3 increases data transfer rate, capacity and range of the signal. It also adds the ability to connect 2 pairs of BT headphones to a single source.] The storage case is very compact, the smallest I’ve seen and it has its own set of unique features. The charging case adds approx 24 hours of charge, which isn’t so unique. But, the case offers UV-C light to sanitize earbuds when you store them. Just as impressive, LG’s charging case double as a Bluetooth transmitter. It includes an AUX to USB cable that connects a device with a headphone jack output to the case which now broadcasts to the T90Q earbuds. It is potentially VERY useful. TV audio to the LGs. (YOU could buy a generic adapter to broaden the flexibility further.) APP FEATURES: There is a set of 5 Equalizer settings, all of them distinctive and a few of them very useful.There is the ability to create 2 custom equalization curves and save them. There is a “fit” feature that seems to discern sound leakage around poor fitting earbuds and the App will suggest changing the ear-tips. The App allows the end user to switch between OFF, Noise Cancellation or Ambient Sound. There is also a switch to enable Dolby Atmos with Head Tracking. The TOUCH actions on each earbud can be modified, somewhat, in the App. Bluetooth 5.3: newest wireless broadcasting/receiving tech that increases data transfer rate and capacity while adding to the range of the signal. It also adds the ability to connect 2 pairs of BT headphones to a single source or play music to two speakers PERFORMANCE: Comfort was within reach by selecting an ear-tip that was large enough to fit. The hard shell body is familiar as it is a popular design, and the silicon tips are quite flexible so they allow for lengthy listening sessions. The weight of these is quite low. They always felt secure. The earbud touch controls were not my favorite. It took a while for me to figure out that the sensor switch was at the outer-most arc of the earbud. And, they’re not pressure sensitive although they make a faint switch noise when touched. I much preferred using the App for sound and operational control. I’ve spent too much time feeling for the sensors, or have I found them but my touch is not effective? How about a colorful dot so I have a fair chance? Or a more obvious sound? I really loved the SOUND QUALITY using some of the preset sound contours in the App. Sound is very compelling. When it’s good, it’s great. Natural was OK, but bass was over-emphasized. Further adjustments could be made with custom settings. I also spent extended time with IMMERSIVE, TREBLE BOOST or simply accentuating treble in the custom setting. That said, on my oldest recordings, the extra bass was enjoyable. Dolby Atmos/head tracking was spectacular on modern tracks from Apple’s Dolby Atmos curated playlists. The music did move around in the wide sound bubble, which I may not be able to get used to, Using ATMOS, even when the recording wasn’t processed for it, took the weird a bit too far. The constant movement of voices and instruments in my head had me questioning my sanity. I almost started talking back to them. I did not love the NOISE REDUCTION. Yes, it works, somewhat. However, switching ANC on resulted in a significant change in sound contour …. here comes that excessive bass again. I’ve rarely heard noise reduction settings change sound quality so obviously. It was not a good change. Sound isolation was decent on its own. The ANC circuit certainly reduced droning sound still more. But, the quality change was distracting and the trade off had me avoiding using the ANC. PHONE CALL QUALITY: I used my phone for days without problems. I asked callers to comment on the quality of calls and all felt my voice was clear, with no or minimal noise interference. SUMMARY: LG has done so much right in these earbuds. They sound wonderful. But it takes some effort to get to where you can sit back and enjoy. For me, tonal balance needs to be adjusted, but it was easy and effective. Tone-T90Qs are enjoyable. Every time I dropped into a piece of music, I didn’t want to leave. Once you tame the bass a bit the T90Qs are very accurate and they get deep. Not just potentially loud, but genuinely deep bass with authority. And voices are accurate, natural, defined and enjoyable. The feature set is unmatched. All connectivity is 2023 spec. Noise cancellation is effective, but tonal balance suffers when ANC is activated. Every feature is completely useful. Sanitizing! Broadcasting Bluetooth! A pair of custom equalizer settings. LG has a fit test feature. These are nice sounding earbuds that solve some problems, prevent some problems and create some problems. You need to try them out for yourself. I like them with caveats.

PROS: - Case and earbuds are small and highly portable. + The case is probably one of the smallest I’ve seen. Has a good almost rubber/plastic material. I dropped it on accident on some thin carpet with it open and it landed right on the hinge and survived. Latch is satisfying and magnetic. Earbuds also attach magnetically. - Good/great sound quality. + Found the preset EQ settings really change the profile a lot. You also have two custom profiles with a 5-band EQ. I used “natural”. Bass is better than most I’ve tried and very impactful without diminishing the mids/highs. Has good imaging where I can pull apart different parts of a song easily and locationally were very accurate which is rare for earbuds. They are not audiophile level nor do I expect them to be in sound accuracy. As there is very so mildly some processing that I’m hearing. I didn’t notice a difference in sound quality going from ANC, Off, or Ambient. Overall, very good listening experience that I think most people will be a fan of. - UV Cleaning is unique. + You can set it to be on every time you put the earbuds in the case or just when charging. Unsure how much of a difference this makes in ear health. It is in Beta but I noticed a decrease in battery life with it on. - Earbuds are very comfortable. + Gel tips are soft and non-irritating. Can easily wear for long periods. Easy to take in and out of ears. Low profile. And I never had to adjust them when working out or moving. - Onboard controls: + Despite being haptic they are very accurate and easy to press. Can set custom tunings for each ear and one, two, or three taps. Holding down changes it from user choice of adaptive ANC/Ambient, or Adaptive ANC, Ambient, off. - Usage modes. + My FAVORITE thing about these is you can use the included USB-C to 3.5mm cord to plug into a non-Bluetooth enabled device while still using the earbuds wireless. Perfect for meetings/desktop/older car listening. Simply switch to that mode and you are good to go. - Can use two devices at once. And quick switch to 5 devices total before needing to be re-paired. For example, can be connect to phone and tablet, while having streaming stick, laptop, and something else paired where all you need to do is go into that devices settings and click “pair”. But needs to be activated in the LG App first. - LG App. Very easy to install and navigate. Has a ton of features. However, need to sign your life away. In the App, in the Lab (beta features) it supports: UVNano always on, game mode, whispering mode (where you can take out an earbud and talk into it for better quality). Plug and wireless sound settings (high audio quality or low latency). MEDIOCRE: - Hear-Through + Is average, maybe a bit better. Still reduces overall sound, comes across as processed, and isn’t good enough that I’d trust it if I were listening for something, talking to someone, or going through a drive thru. - Battery Life + They claim 9 hours of battery life per bud, 18 hours with the case, for a total of 27 hours WIHTOUT ANC. In my testing with ANC I was getting a lot less than that. Probably around 5 – 6 hours. Add the UV light on each thing and I was getting a lot less than the 27 hour mark. But also didn’t have a lot of time to test it so take this with a grain of salt. Charge time also seemed to take longer than I would expect. But does support USB-C charging or wireless charging which I like. - IPX4 rating. Good enough for light rain and exercise. But not good enough for showers, hot tub, use by pools, etc. - Dolby Atmos/Head Tracking. + This is very neat and it works well. As you can clearly tell a widening of the sound stage and when you move your head it goes from one ear to the other well. However, I do notice a reduction in overall sound quality. Also, need to make sure you are watching/consuming something that is mastered for it. At which point it sounds better but still not as good as stock. But does add immersion. I personally classify this as a gimmicky feature as I think most people will turn it off. But it does work very well (similar to Apple’s variant of it). - Quick response: +When taking a single earbud out it pauses and resumes quickly. When you remove one earbud you can’t press the touch buttons as they are automatically disabled. Also, if you sleep with them in you can disable touch settings altogether in app. - Find my earbuds will make a chirping sound in the earbuds to locate them. While this says it is very loud (as it would be in the ears) it is not when outside of the ears and depending on how loud the ambient noise level is I’m not sure if it would be helpful in locating. - Voice/Call Quality: Is respectable and a bit above average. It sounds a bit compressed and like I am in a big room. But voice is clear to the other person. On my end people are easy to hear. I think it would be perfectly acceptable for phone calls and meetings. - Before going into Siri (As tested on iPhone 14 Pro Max) there was a bit of a delay compared to normal AirPods. Which tends to be usual. CONS: - Adaptive ANC is poor. + Does silence minor sounds. But in general reduces overall sound while changing the pitch. Not nearly on the same level as most other buds in similar price category. - Cost for overall performance (mainly ANC and Ambient) is high. CONCLUSION: These continue to be some of the most unique earbuds on the market with the USB-C to 3.5 mm connect and UVnano tech. They are a good option for calls and video calls. They do almost everything right except for ANC and Ambient mode which are kind of a big deal. Especially, at this price point as they are battling other earbuds that do that excellently. Making it so if you don’t care about ANC or Ambient then it is an easy recommendation. If you do, then you’ll need to look elsewhere. When compared to the previous generation (FP9) I do think it is an overall upgrade, but not $30 extra worth.
