Q: Do I need to buy high efficiency detergent just for this washer?
A: The salesperson told us "yes". I was concerned but then realized my regular detergent already is "he- high efficiency". I suspect that most of the big name brands are. Just look on your detergent container that you already use and see if it has the "he" symbol on it. You'll be fine then.

A: They are sold seperately.
Q: Can this wash a king cal thick blanket??
A: Generally speaking, 4 cubic feet is enough to wash 12-16 pounds of laundry. A larger capacity unit at 4.5 cubic feet can hold up to 20 pounds of laundry. A general rule of thumb is a queen size comforter can fit into 3.5 cubic feet and a king size comforter fit into a 3.8 cubic feet machine. ^CP
A: The noise level is not bad. I actually think it has a pretty low level of noise. I only hear it when I am in the next room with the door open. I don't have to turn up the volume on the television to hear it. The washer we had before was a Kenmore front loading machine (that I never thought was loud) yet this machine is quieter. Don't get me wrong, it isn't silent, just a muffled sound.
