Mannequin Men are the sound of the underdog. That's not a typo or a malapropism. How else can you describe a band that's been kicked around for years and refuses to lay down and die, but instead claws their way to the surface with a total rager of a live show and an album to back it up? It's not an act either. Sure, FRESH ROT takes it's cues from the underground, too, as these guys combined have one of the best record collections in all of Chicago. There are traces of Wipers, Keith Morris-era Black Flag, and pre-Watt Stooges still there are also echoes of the Verlaines and maybe even a bit of Television without the Deadhead-isms. Yet Mannequin Man have their collective thumb firmly planted on the rare ability to tame influence and turn it into new blood. Nothing is half-assed or ripped-off.
