Neil Charles - Uproot - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

For his third Criss Cross , following Today is Tomorrow (CRC 1345) and I'll Take My Chances (CRC 1361) tenor saxophonist Dayna Stephens presents a fresh take on the 'saxophone battle' genre in partnership with rising star Walter Smith III, himself the leader of the critically acclaimed III (CRC 1328). Complemented by a state of-the-art rhythm section of A-list 30-something's (Aaron Parks, piano; Mike Moreno, guitar; Harish Raghavan; and Rodney Green, drums) the protagonist juxtapose their distinctive instrumental voices and apply their melody-centric sensibilities to a varied program comprising original music, as well as the iconic two-tenor standard Blues Up And Down and Bill Evans' Blue in Green. Less a cutting than a forum for collective story-telling, Reminiscent is a tour de force that will repay repeated listening's. Album Tracks 1. Seems Like Yesterday 2. Isn't That So? 3. Blue in Green 4. Uncle JR 5. A New Beginning 6. New Day 7. Contrafact 8. Our World 9. Walt's Waltz 10. Blues Up and Down

Ever the sonic experimentalist, Mike Oldfield uses guitars exclusively (strummed, plucked, struck, sampled, and more) to create every sound on InchGuitarsInch. The more delicate, acoustic pieces, such as InchSummit Days,Inch InchMuse,Inch and InchEnigmatismInch possess the meditative, elegant quality listeners have come to expect from Mike Oldfield. By contrast, the crunchier rock guitar ensembles seem to lack his usual sense of order and purpose. InchFour Winds,Inch an unfinished cluster of distorted racket, particularly misses it's mark. Innovative and at times beautiful, InchGuitarsInch remains another intriguing experiment from one of modern music's most ambitious icons. Album Tracks 1. Muse 2. Cochise 3. Embers 4. Summit Day 5. Out of Sight 6. B. Blues 7. Four Winds 8. Enigmatism 9. Out of Mind 10. From the Ashes
